Tasted by Biggsy on 6/12/2023 & rated 92 points: Golden colour. I was worried by the colour but it’s completely fine and most of the other comments here are similar. Bright fruit-led nose with red apple, marmalade and a touch of classic Riesling petrol. Lush texture, it’s rich yet fresh from the zingy acidity. Long and tropical with a strong mango character and a toffee note on the long finish. (751 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 5/5/2022: Good news was this was still quite alive and lively, but the flavor profile was a little heavy/cloying. Tropical fruits and ripe peach, with an overlay of canned apricots. Just not my favorite, I prefer a racier wine with some citrus notes, as I remember this wine was younger. B- (1261 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 5/1/2022: Very dark for this vintage, not bad but ever so slightly oxidized although you might not know it if you didn't have the Willi Shafer 2007 next to it which was pristine. Chengdu Impression free for all wine dinner Yarom group. (1216 views)
Tasted by JohnSh on 4/30/2022 & rated 92 points: Deep golden in colour, there's a wash of mainly tropical fruit and lime on the lovely nose. More mango, peach and slight lime on the medium, fairly sweet palate. Not the ultimate in complexity, but the fruit and acid have integrated very well, so that there is both depth and elegance. Some botrytis notes too here, and on the slightly viscous texture. Delicious now, and will last many years (A-). (1129 views)
Tasted by Necowine on 12/18/2019 & rated 89 points: Golden or even golden-brown in color, muted nose. Bitter, "stern" tangy peach over grey rocks, some petrolly background. Not quite viscous in texture, but closer to it than to being an acid rapier or an acid wash. Nonetheless lively, and with all sweetness fruit sweetness. Very nice wine, just not *quite* the verve, energy of other Donnhof bottles I remember.

[First wine in my own personal "Rieslings with Asian: Really?" series. Food was takeout Thai - spicy beef salad, cashew chicken, noodles with tofu. I "get it", and all the minerally tingle from the spice is fun, but so far hypothesis confirmed: not wine, beer. (Especially when your mouth is on fire, no?)] (2111 views)
Tasted by JackLynch00@gmail.com on 5/22/2019 & rated 91 points: Doing very well at thirteen years old. Sweet but balanced, and able to stand up to Indian food. (2138 views)
Tasted by decaturwinedude on 3/5/2019 & rated 93 points: A Good Monday (Good Luck Gourmet): After the '02, this was obviously fleshier, slightly richer, which i honestly liked in the context of the spicy dishes. It feels more ready than the '02. The touch of boytritis is here, the apricot and candied lemon comes on. Quite nice with the sichuan. (2302 views)
Tasted by chcook on 12/16/2018: PNP. cork perfect. color amber. nose dominated by pineapple. swishing this shows significant acidity that keeps this lighter, and the finish is a bit clipped i think by botrytis. there is RS here too, but it does not come across as overtly sweet to me, probably because of the bite at the end. that said, i think of this bottling as usually on the more delicate side, which this is not.
based on color i am worried that this is going to start to flag, but maybe will just become more mature and TBA like, without the heavy RS. i guess time will tell.
I plan to try my other 06 Donnhoffs to check their progress, but i am a little worried. (1833 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 10/5/2018 & rated 93 points: Lovely. Perfect balance, lightness of being. Not too sweet - good partner for apple based dessert. Amazing to see I paid £13 for this - tastes much better than that. (1854 views)
Tasted by kenv on 9/13/2017 & rated 92 points: At Yono's. Pop n pour. Served properly cool. Fairly mature amber color. A touch on the sweet side with some botrytis. Went well with foie gras and with raw salmon and oysters. Good length. Quite tasty. Drink up. (2612 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 1/29/2017: Medium-dark straw color, clear and bright, and where it should be at this point. Nose opens with lots of sweet sensations, but by the end of the first glass, some stones and ripe, sweet fruit. It's by the third glass that this begins to show its pedigree - to the extent that it can in this vintage - with lime, several kinds/degrees of slate and earth, along with orange rinds, lime, persimmon, a puff of diesel and a splash of dusty jalapeno. It remains sweet, almost honeyed, with a medium+ body, and a long-ish, slowly diminishing finish. Nice, with all intentions of being very nice, but doesn't quite get there. That said, still a very good food wine with the right dish. 8,5% abv., thru 2023. Drink now, it's not getting better, just different. recommended

PnP, served non-blind. One of the better 06s I've had from this region, thanks to adequate, if not cutting, acidity. (3440 views)
Tasted by acyso on 1/19/2017 flawed bottle: January birthday craziness (Chicago, IL): #06-07, 8.5% abv. Corked. You gotta be kidding me. (3924 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 1/7/2017: Opened the night before and recorked. Yellow. Funny combination of highly botrytized, honey aromas with a very rich feel but decent acidity, only moderate sweetness (much less than the nose suggests), and sharp, grapefruit flavors. Who knows where this will go from here. (3139 views)
Tasted by Nohedes on 12/7/2016 & rated 93 points: Outstanding, mature, sweet(ish), great acidity. Sweet apple, straw, clean and long. Outstanding! (3023 views)
Tasted by Fugu Me on 10/29/2016: Stone fruit and citrus, with a bit of honey and minerality. The light sweetness is balanced perfectly with a healthy acidity. Paired very well with sliders and a smoked salmon and kale salad. Thanks, wine-strategies! (2465 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 1/23/2016 & rated 94 points: Served with Thai food. Either this bottle or the one above it on the rack had been a leaker. Hard to tell as the capsule was sticky. No harm no foul though. Deep golden in color. The nose is really good with slight diesel, wet stones, sea air and slight grapefruits. Full bodied. Lovely velvety texture. On the palate, this is sweet. Certainly not cloying. Good acidity. Layers of flavors and minerality. Long finish. Just killer with Tofu Tamarind dish. Beautiful wine with years to go. For the record, looking at the cork, I don't think this was the leaker. (2623 views)
Tasted by eluebchow on 9/19/2015 & rated 92 points: Quite rich and honeyed for a spatlese, with a dense core of stone fruits, florals and rocky minerals, with a great acidic thread running through it; Very enjoyable (2801 views)
Tasted by acyso on 9/19/2015 & rated 93 points: HDH auction tasting at Tru; 9/18/2015-9/19/2015: #06-07, 8.5% abv. It says Spaetlese on the label, but the colour and palate says otherwise. Heh. A very deeply honeyed wine, with a rich floral nose that shows just a slight hint of botrytis. The palate is chock full of stone fruit and richness, and this seems to confirm that there's some botrytis on the palate. That said, this is still very lightweight and pretty, with a lovely streak of acidity. (3567 views)
Tasted by Rieslingfan on 8/29/2015: Several years of bottle age, and this is no longer a Kirschheck that I care for. The botrytis of the year is creeping in and obscuring the clear flavors that I prize in the Kirschheck bottling. Ah well. There are other vintages. (3062 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 6/27/2015: A hint of petrol on the nose followed by an intense palate with spritzy acidity and loads of honey, peach marmelade and even some citrus. Very young tasting. Almost too vibrant. This needs time. (2546 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 1/25/2015 & rated 91 points: Mineral and yellow fruit. Still showing vibrant acidity. Drink now. (2178 views)
Tasted by Loren Sonkin on 3/2/2014 & rated 93 points: Dinner with Friends (VCC, Maybach, Neo, +++) (Our home): Best food and wine pairing of the night IMO. Golden in color, perhaps a bit deeper than expected. The nose has a lot going on. It has a honey quality at first that gets passed by limes and cherries. No sign of petrol, but there is an underlying minerality. Great lush texture with a bit of sweetness on the palate. This is a very elegant wine at this point. The salad had dried cherries and Cara Cara oranges which matched well. The acidity in the wine, and probably some botrytis, worked well with the acidity in the dressing. Its nice when things works out. (3372 views)
Tasted by blanquito on 2/11/2014 & rated 91 points: This is developing nicely. Just a hint of petrol on the nose to go along with Golden Delicious apple, honey infused chamomile tea, and lemon zest. Round and rich, but balanced and bright. Delicious today and it will continue to improve for tomorrow. (2933 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 10/22/2013 & rated 92 points: Eatery: intense with candied pineapple, apple, a bit round, medium sweet, excellent structure, acid, slight rounder less intense sweetness than the Adam; this was fantastically balanced and versatile with German sausage, foi gras, lamb, lentils. Very good. 92-93 (3184 views)
Tasted by pigdaddy on 7/30/2013 & rated 92 points: pale lemon yellow; smells like the basket of ripe peaches on the counter, with some tropical fruit (mango, passion fruit) in the mix, some beeswax also?; ripe stone fruits & mango, maybe a touch of honey & peach curd; lovely light texture; med acidity. (third out of the case; very tasty; I know purists might not like the vintage but with the right food. . . ?)

stir-fried NC shrimp with slivered pork, garlic & chilies, lots of basil, mint, cilantro; nuoc mam; jasmine rice; baby bok choy (3273 views)

Rockss and Fruit (1/25/2008)
(Donnhoff Norheimer Kirschheck Spatlese) This was gorgeously forward and very very smokey with cherries and cassis galore. Decadent but with lovely acidity and purity. Crunchy red fruits and a silky mouthfeel. Young but still open and delicious. Lovely bottle of Donnhoff and I am not a Norheimer guy usually.

Dönnhoff

Producer website

U.S. Importer (add'l info)

As a help to those who purchase and cellar these wines, let it be noted that the 'Goldkapsule' does not ofen designate a higher quality bottling from the producer Dönnhoff. Herr Dönnhoff uses gold capsules on about 99 percent of the l bottlings of certain richer wines from the vineyards Oberhauser Brücke and Niederhauser Hermannshöhle and perhaps some others. Therefore it is usually unneccessary and misleading to use the term 'Goldkapsule' with Dönnhoff wines, currently. Although, just to be confusing, David Bueker mentions that there may be one or two exceptions, especially in 2001 and 2003 vintages, where Donnhoff produced "white capsule" auslesen from the Leistenberg and Dellchen vineyards (later Dellchen auslesen have gone to the gold capsules - e.g. 2006). To have to list my notes on a Cellartracker page that has a non-necessary and meaningless 'gold capsule' designation is highly irritating for me, as I feel that if I list it correctly it won't even be picked up by a search.

Another example of the confusion above is with the frequent multiple bottlings of Eisweine from the Brücke vineyard. There were at least three bottlings in 1998 and three in 2002. They occur when prolonged cold snaps allow harvesting on successive days. Usually one of these is designated the 'regular' Eiswein and the best one is sent to the Auction. Each typically has a different style. They are informally referred to by the day of the week on which they were harvested. Thus in 1998 there was a 'Samstag' Eiswein, and one for 'Sonntag' and also 'Montag'. The last named is extremely powerful, and extremely expensive; it is the Auction lot.

It is STRONGLY URGED then that when referring to Dönnhoff wines one refers to the AP number If this terminology is not used, identity can be impossible to determine. JHT

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)

Nahe
