Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 89.1 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 3942 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ortega1780 on 4/25/2024: 90 first ever! Nice mouth feel, crisp, pleasant, green apple/pear on the nose and palate, light brioche in background but not as forward brioche/almond note as was hoping. Can see how this has wide appeal, but lacking some depth- will keep a few around for entertaining for sure as most will enjoy- (797 views)
Tasted by Wtbtwo on 4/23/2024 flawed bottle: Unfortunately, we waited too long.
It was oxidized/corked (1832 views)
Tasted by Jys1982 on 4/22/2024 & rated 89 points: I never buy VC, but it was really cheap by the glass at my local Mariano’s bar. So I could drink shit Prosecco or for the cost of 2, have one Veuve. Kim K. would be proud-I chose the Veuve. It was just fine. Really acidic, and a lot of green apple flavor. A little minerality and yeast as well. It tastes like what you think champagne tastes like. That is a plus. At its inflated price (other than at Mariano’s), however, I could do better at its price (easily). Would choose Pierre Moncuit over this any day. But for today, it was just fine. (2060 views)
Tasted by Border Boss on 4/17/2024: Excellent with Eppoise cheese. The bottle age really helps VC Yellow label, otherwise the wine is pretty blah. (3223 views)
Tasted by zagtoong on 4/5/2024 & rated 91 points: 역시 실망시키지 않는 맛 (3814 views)
Tasted by Rossodio on 3/28/2024 & rated 91 points: Aged for 3 years from purchase. Drank well tonight. I only had half a glass.

Tasted by rjf@rjfinlay.com on 3/21/2024: Can never have enough veuve. (4963 views)
Tasted by Vera Wind on 3/16/2024 & rated 93 points: Kept in private storage for one year.
Colour very light yellow.
On the nose very expressive. Honey, spice, applepie.
On the palate rich, deep and spicy. Cream, honey, spices a little grape fruit in the background. Nice acidity.
This is grand! (4782 views)
Tasted by Purple Tooth on 3/6/2024 & rated 90 points: No introduction needed. The only thing that I would add is that this has allot of bottle variation, maybe having to do with transportation and storage issues due to volume. And....A totally different animal out of Mags (+2 or 3 pts) (6051 views)
Tasted by DinoCollapso on 3/2/2024 & rated 87 points: classic, as per. more secondary than fruit flavours. good with homemade fish and chips out of a regular wine glass. retained its mousse and flavours the next day. (4710 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 3/1/2024 & rated 90 points: Great match with lox and bagels. Citrus and yeast in the nose. Creamy fruit in the flavor. Easy to drink though enjoyable. Balanced, medium length creamy finish. (4130 views)
Tasted by Raywilliams420 on 2/28/2024 & rated 91 points: This time around I’m getting some fruit notes on the nose although they are soft. Beautifully searing acidity an light fruit as well as semi light minerality. Better showing than my last bottle. I drank out of an all purpose glass this time. Not a flute. I paired this with some seasoned semi salty chicken an it enhanced the flavor of the wine an the chicken (4657 views)
Tasted by Dan & Krista Stockman on 2/26/2024 & rated 93 points: Purchased in 2021, no telling how long it was on the shelf before that. Still, very impressive - the mousse is so fine you almost can't describe it as bubbles. All the flavors are fully integrated. Even after waiting too long to open it, this bottle was a wonder. (4302 views)
Tasted by brett228 on 2/21/2024 & rated 90 points: Decent as always (4751 views)
Tasted by LBDWine on 2/16/2024: KIS (4210 views)
 Tasted by iambrianwhitaker@gmail.com on 2/14/2024 & rated 91 points: (3577 views)
Tasted by YackAttack213 on 2/11/2024 & rated 90 points: Nose: slightly bready, ripe red apple.
Taste: good concentration, red apple, lemon, peach pit, mineral.

Very good. I don't get the hate on this, it is thoroughly enjoyable. Overpriced? Well I used to be able to buy this for $42 6 or 7 years ago, and it's gone up to $75 as has most everything else, and more recently I can buy this for under $60. It's a no at $75, but a good buy at $60. In my market, you can't find much for less - Mumm for about $50 perhaps.

I've probably only had 2 Champagnes in this price range that I like more, and a bunch of wines around this price or more that I liked less, or a lot less. It's maybe not earth shatteringly good, but it's reliable.

Calling this a 90 today since I'm trying to stick closer to the Cellartracker rating assistant - bottom end of "excellent". (3712 views)
Tasted by Raywilliams420 on 2/4/2024: Doesn’t wow me but If someone else was paying for it i would drink it again. I feel this would go great with oysters. Soft fruit flavors An ok drinker to sum it up (4487 views)
Tasted by DianaRemigio on 2/3/2024: Top (3864 views)
Tasted by johnny wine on 1/31/2024 & rated 87 points: Overprice, , pale lemon with fine bubbles , toast and baked briooche apple, mineral, hint buttery. (4228 views)
Tasted by Janda_42 on 1/29/2024 & rated 86 points: Eye: Pale straw. The bubbles are rapid and reasonably fine.

Nose: Grape gummies. Toast. Gentle touch of brioche.

Palate: Grape gummies. Elderflower. Brioche, citrus peel. Definitely on the sweeter end of bruts.

Finish: Lemon peel. Nuts.

Overall: Does it taste like champagne? Yes. Is it incredible champagne? no.

Edit: Drinking the wine without carefully focusing on tasting notes; it is like grape juice made from concentrate. I really expected more. (4393 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 1/25/2024 & rated 91 points: PNP. Pale steely golden color. Brioche and pear. Dry palate, with nice, reliable bubbles. (4362 views)
Tasted by Red White on 1/25/2024 & rated 84 points: I don’t understand what all the fuss is about – must be marketing. (3551 views)
Tasted by UniScrewer on 1/23/2024: Expected something super bready or briochy, turned out a bit more elegant with some sourdough and honey aftertaste.
Nose: delicate, medium intensity, some baking goods, but not overly yeasty
Taste: need some time to open up, first fruit and apples with sourdough bread and slight honey in the aftertaste. Low alco, medium- body, medium-high acidity, pretty long aftertaste

Not really my sparkling, i seem to prefer fresher ones (4047 views)
 Tasted by Philip_Bundpropperne on 1/20/2024 & rated 89 points: Rating: 3,9/5,0. (4008 views)

N.V. Veuve Clicquot Champagne Brut

* The Cuvee: Grapes from 50 to 60 different crus, or growing areas, are used to produce the Veuve Cliquot Brut Yellow Label:
* 50 to 55% Pinot Noir ensures the structure so typical of the House wines,
* 15 to 20% Pinot Meunier rounds out the blend,
* 28 to 33% Chardonnay provides the elegance and sophistication essential to a perfectly balanced wine.
* A high proportion of priceless reserve wines (between 25% and 40%) ensures the continuity of the House style.
* Sensory Notes: The strength of this golden-yellow wine is immediately pleasing to the nose while its complexity explodes on the palate. The initial notes of fruit are followed by more discreet aromas of brioche and vanilla when the wine is allowed to age in the bottle. Brut Yellow Label offers a perfect balance of finesse and forcefulness

Champagne Blend

"Champagne blend" is a classic grape blend that typically includes Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and/or Pinot Meunier in any proportions.

However, this blend can also include Arbane, Fromenteau (Pinot Gris), Petit Meslier and/or Pinot Blanc as well.

Champagne

Le Champagne (Le comité interprofessionnel du vin de Champagne) | Grandes Marques & Maisons de Champagne (Union des Maisons de Champagne)

Sub-Region:

Champagne - The French region of Champagne (including the cities of Rheims, Épernay, and Aÿ) was the first region in the world to make sparkling wine in any quantity. Today, the name of the region is synonymous with the finest of all sparkling wines, and wine-making traditions of Champagne have become role models for sparkling wine producers, worldwide. Surprisingly, the region of Champagne is now responsible for only one bottle in 12 of all sparkling wine produced. Styles of champagne range in sweetness ranging from an extra brut or brut 0, to the basic brut to demi sec to doux; some houses produce single vintage champagnes and others produce non-vintage (or incorporate wines/grapes of multiple vintages), often to preserve a specific taste; combinations of grape varietals; and colors, including a rosé. There are several sub-appellations, including the Valley of the Marnes river running from Épernay west, Massif de Saint-Thierry north and west of Rheims, Valley of the Ardre, the Mountains of Rheims (between Rheims and Épernay), Côte des Blancs, Côte de Sézanne, and Côte des Bar in the South. Champagne wine only uses three grape varietals (cépages): Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pinot Meunier.
