Tasted by pdadams66 on 1/14/2024 & rated 89 points: Drinking well. Balance of sweetness and rancio. Great long finish. (565 views)
Tasted by mwagner7700 on 4/7/2023: Tasted for #tawnytuesday. My first Niepoort Port and what a memorable experience. It first starts with the color. It's almost like a rainbow, the way the color fades from ruby red to garnet to tawny to light orange on the rim. On the nose, delicious notes of caramel, butterscotch, stone fruit and tea. On the palate, loads of that delicious citrus and stone fruit tea. Peach, apricot, black tea and candied orange. The acidity is lively. And the finish is endless. This is stunning. Possibly the best 10-Year I've had.

*HIGHLY RECOMMENDED* (1323 views)
Tasted by SAND on 6/30/2022 & rated 90 points: Bottle aged for 7 years (bottled/lot 10.06.2015).
Tasted on day 2 after opening.
APPEARANCE: Medium to pale tawny colour (surprise...).
NOSE: More defined and darker berry fruitiness; cassis, blackberry, dark plums, tar, violets. Still slightly jammy nose but much classier than on day 1 (yesterday was all about not much more than red berries jam/marmalade).
Later dried fruits and nuts as well. (88-89p)
TASTE: It is in the mouth that I really notice the improvement from day 1; much much better defined and tighter/firmer fruitiness, sharper (as in less dull) acidity. Medium sweet, medium to medium full bodied. (88-89p)
FINISH: Long, fruity. Mildly tannic and drying towards the exit. (88p)
OVAREALL: It is amazing how much this has transformed since yesterday when it was first oppened. Then it was an OK, slightly flabby, competent but not very fascinating run-of-the-mill tawny. Maybe worthy of 84 or 85 points max.
Today it is approaching the level and characteristics of decent medium matured vintage ports (or at least good medium matured LBVs). Coming in at around 88-89 points on my scale. And I "know" that it will be even better tomorrow.
TOTAL SCORE 88 (89) points. So far.

UPDATE 24.07.2022:
Three and a half weeks after uncorking (kept in small full bottle in the fridge) the wine has improved. As was expected. On the nose all the previous characteristics are still there but now it has gained an extra dimension of bitter sweet red berries, sea buckthorn and rosehip tea. In the mouth it is also very recogniseable but has "firmed up". Fairly tight, with the zesty acidity raining in the sweet ripe fruitiness. Revised TOTAL SCORE 90 points. (2132 views)
Tasted by streethawk on 11/26/2021 & rated 93 points: Light garnet. Prunes, toffee, cherries. Palate shows great acidity and a slight tannic bite on the finish. Slight heat on the palate from the 19.5% alcohol. Complex and long. This is a big and bold Port, though much more balanced than other 10-year Tawnies. Great night cap with some cheese. (2867 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 7/18/2021 & rated 90 points: Lots of nut notes on the nose along with a butterscotch quality. A bit above medium bodied (20% ABV) with all sorts of varied nuts making up the upfront flavor profile. Good density through the mid-body and adding some chocolate, plum and orange qualities. Spices, tannins and earthy/nutty notes on back and through the finish. This was actually a bottle purchased about 10 years ago and was unsurprisingly still in very nice shape. The sweetness and the nuts works well with the slightly richer notes through the middle. Should be able to hold this level for some time to come. (3005 views)
Tasted by pdadams66 on 2/16/2021 & rated 90 points: Good red/brown color, red to brown rim.
Creamy, soft cheese, good rancio, molasses, sweet red fruit.
Smooth and sweet, rich mouthfeel, prunes and red cherries, good acidity and tannin, nice nutty finish.
Excellent tawny port, strikes a good balance between fruit and age. (2916 views)
Tasted by Randyartoo on 11/1/2020 & rated 88 points: Reasonable 10 year tawny, but not as good as others I have tasted. (2355 views)
Tasted by TheYenius on 5/13/2020 & rated 91 points: Very good 10 year old Tawny. Residual fruit remaining, honey, floral notes. Good balance with fresh acidity, nuts, spices. (2210 views)
Tasted by jac-aranda on 4/28/2020 & rated 88 points: This is the NV 10-year-old tawny, bottled 2018 in a half-bottle (375ml). The most exquisite colour: a clear pink-red-gold. Nose of pine resin, gingerbread and caramel. Toffee apples on the palate, with stewed quince and strawberry shortbread. Despite the fruit dessert theme, it's not overly sweet: I could very happily drink this all night. Oh Niepoort, your ports are totally unlike anybody else's! (1492 views)
Tasted by Genco on 3/21/2020: Still Very good on the light side (1615 views)
Tasted by FjordogFjell on 2/26/2020 & rated 85 points: Vanilje og kirsebær, sødmefylt enkel og grei . Kjøp LBV i steden. (1500 views)
Tasted by Motz on 1/30/2020 & rated 90 points: All the component parts, with an underlying classiness that makes it a pleasure to sip. Well framed and balanced. (1945 views)
Tasted by PMJak11 on 9/26/2018 & rated 95 points: Quite lovely on our first night in Portugal for the wife’s birthday! Scored 2 points higher due to the sleeping gentleman in the picture :) #firstfamilyvacation (1331 views)
Tasted by Butzemann on 12/8/2017 & rated 90 points: Restaurant Pop and Pour, didn't note the bottling date, but I guess from memory that it was 2016, cherry colour, smells of marzipan and almonds, medium body, in the mouth marzipan and almonds, in the aftertaste marzipan and acidity, good length (30 sec), good 10 Y Tawny (2877 views)
Tasted by btock on 11/11/2017 & rated 92 points: A brighter, pinkish hued tawny. Youthful flavor profile. More fruit than expected. Paired with a cheese dish that had a huckleberry accompaniment, and that worked nicely. Enjoyed this one. Good now but no rush. (1271 views)
Tasted by BSA on 12/21/2016 & rated 89 points: From memory. We used this bottle as a reference when tasting older vintage port and LBVs. This one was substantially lighter, both colour (think red burgundy) and footprint, but had balance and a good finish. I would say red (mostly dried) fruits, nuts, and touch of raisins. Not too sweet. Comes across as quite young, although I have no references to say whether this can benefit from aging. We tried it to cote de boeuf and peppercorn sauce (ok), gingerbread and stilton (the better combo) and chocolates (less successful). (3909 views)
Tasted by mdefreitas on 6/26/2016 & rated 89 points: From a half bottle. Lovely, rich and mouth-filling, with decent acidity to back up the sugar. There are some red fruits perceptible with the caramel and raisin notes. Not very deep or complex, but very satisfying. (4717 views)
 Tasted by Harley1199 on 10/14/2015: Bottled 2011.
My last bottle if this stuff. Sincerely speaking this is not my sort of tawny. Too much sweet, unbalanced alcohol, undelicate raisins aromas.
Can't match cured cheese.

Embotellada en el 2011.
La última con este relleno. Hablando claro no es mi Oporto. Demasiado dulce, alcohol desequilibrado, aromas a uvas pasas poco refinados.
No pudo competir con un queso curado. (6038 views)
Tasted by Bobhelge on 9/28/2015: Lot of dried fruit with some nutty touch. It's a decent, affordable Port. (1686 views)
Tasted by ronnieroots on 9/22/2015: Usually a lovely port, but this particular bottle is slightly disappointing. Rather simple and cloying, and the typical freshness that I normally love is lacking. A pity. (6089 views)
Tasted by mikemorf on 6/7/2015: Bot to educate myself on Port. this is somewhat sweet and a pleasant after dinner drink. Not as sweet as some Ports I have tried before so it was a different experience. (1782 views)
Tasted by Christoffer S on 5/5/2015: RØDBRUN. Rødfrukt, appelsin og. Først og fremst appelsin/sitronskall. Sjokolade, nøtter, fiken. Frisk. Ganske kantete- frukt, syre, alkohol.

Etter 3 døgn i åpen karaffel i kjøleskap er vinen ganske uendret. Den har satt seg noe mer, og kantene er noe mindre spisse. Det har kommet til en del kaffe i utgangen. (1871 views)
Tasted by partylikeakennedy on 2/15/2015 & rated 90 points: Smoother than you would expect from a 10-year. Rich creme brûlée. (5452 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 12/30/2014 & rated 93 points: firm to start; much better after several months in the fridge; smooth caramel/toffee/espresso (4511 views)
Tasted by Seafoam Manor on 11/15/2014 & rated 90 points: Pulled from a Corvine over the past 6 months or so. Consistently good, but not great. Big bites of toffee, fruit cake, burnt orange and nuttiness. Very fresh and creamy, but I'm realizing that I prefer 20 year tawnys. (4322 views)

Niepoort

Producer website

N.V. Niepoort Porto 10 Year Old Tawny

* Niepoort Tawny, is a great starting point to enter into the magical world of tawny ports. A relatively young wine blended from several years with wonderful freshness and elegance acquired from gentle ageing in small old oak casks. A versatile wine, which can go just as well with chocolate based desserts at the end of a meal, as it can, lightly chilled as an aperitif before a meal.
* Tasting Notes: Brick red / tawny in colour, with delicate nutty aromas and a hint of dried fruits. on the palate, very well balanced with a youthful fruity, luscious character, which integrates well with a long spirity finish.
* Vinification: Niepoort tawny, with an average age of three and a half years, originates from low yielding vineyards in the Cima corgo region of the Douro Valley. The grapes are predominantly trodden in lagares, prior to ageing in small old oak casks at our lodges in Vila Nova de Gaia.
