Tasted by Somm David T on 5/6/2023 & rated 93 points: The 07 Bordeaux’s have turned out better than critically reviewed young for many quality producers. I became aware of that in 2014 when I had the 07 Smith Haut-Lafitte at the property with beef stroganoff prepared by their chef at lunch. I wouldn’t hold the 07’s as long as I would hold many other vintages but drinking beautifully now.

Nose show’s floral, slightly ruby to baked fruits of; blackberries, black plum, dark cherries, strawberries, raspberries on the glass edge, touch of pomegranate, tobacco leaf, excellent, soft graphite, dark, rich, moist, forest floor with dry leaves, notes of steeped tea, touch of black licorice, wet clay, limestone minerals, mixed dark berry cola, vanillin, light, fresh herbaceous notes, understated cinnamon & nutmeg, gentle, dark spice, sandalwood with fresh & withering dark, blue, purple forals.

The palate/mouthfeel is ruby, lush and pretty. Crazy beautiful. Blackberries, black plum, dark cherries, strawberries, a touch of purple fruits, raspberries on the glass edge, touch of pomegranate, candied tarriness, tobacco leaf, excellent, soft graphite, dark, rich, moist, forest floor with dry leaves, saline, notes of steeped tea, touch of black licorice, wet clay, limestone minerals, dry soil, dry river stones, crushed rocks, mixed dark berry & cherry cola, red licorice, vanillin, light, fresh herbaceous notes, understated cinnamon & nutmeg, gentle, dark spice, sandalwood with fresh & withering dark, blue, purple forals. Beautiful acidity. The lush finish is well balanced, nice structure even mix of fruit & earth and lasts two-minutes.

Great pair with the Allen Brothers Cowgirl Bone-in Ribeye. (1142 views)
Tasted by elfort on 1/8/2023 & rated 97 points: Nyårsafton till rödvinssås, gratäng och Luffarstek. Ceder, cassis, tobak, kaffe. Gott som attan (1427 views)
Tasted by AlphaMikeFoxtrot on 10/14/2022 & rated 92 points: A little green - which I really like in BDX. Green bell pepper and black pepper on top of stewed red and black fruits (black cherry, black currant). Medium + body with medium tannin and medium acid. Drinking excellently right now. Don't wait any longer here. (1614 views)
Tasted by nfurlong on 3/25/2022 & rated 92 points: deep ruby color; peppery blueberry and cedar branch on the nose; generous black fruit ganache; very well integrated, long aftertaste. Imagine it's at its peak now. (2103 views)
Tasted by Andice on 11/6/2021 & rated 90 points: For me the bouquet is great w nice open mature notes. But when drinking it seemed hollow in the middle, losing fruit and length. Drink up (2563 views)
Tasted by Papies on 3/13/2020 & rated 92 points: Quite open and full of charm from the pop of the cork. We did think about decanting it but we just went without as the wine felt so open. Another great happy 2007 and drink superbly now. Soft, good ripe fruit, well evolved showing a nice secondary side and leathery touch. Super solid 92+ (3391 views)
Tasted by stayhappy21 on 8/10/2019 & rated 91 points: Drank this at Teochew Restaurant Huat Kee last night with my whole family.

Decanted for close to 2 hours before serving. Brickish red with hues of brown in purple. Notes of toffee, chocolate, mocha and berries with integrated leather makes this a serious and well-poised wine.

Good structure with acidity, body and balance. (3260 views)
Tasted by VinoServant on 6/17/2019 & rated 93 points: This wine was on fire the other night. Great flavor profile and very youthful at 12 years post vintage. (3332 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 7/6/2018 & rated 91 points: Tasting in Chateau Pape Clement. Herbs, cassis, and green pepper. Lean on the palate but the sweetness of the fruit was attractive enough. (4017 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 6/25/2017 & rated 91 points: Smoke, herbs, tobacco and cassis on the nose. Medium bodied, soft, light in fruit, but lots of charm, this is fully mature and requires drinking over the next 4-6 years. (6113 views)
Tasted by Romol on 4/23/2017 & rated 91 points: Decanted 2 hours. 375ml. This time it seemed much more ready (at least after decanting). Nice fruit and good acidity. 91+ pts. (4109 views)
Tasted by Sean Tay on 4/23/2017: The wine looks purple colored. It smells like blackberry, blueberry and black currant (cassis). (258 views)
Tasted by Bob Sacamano on 12/9/2016 & rated 90 points: From Coravin at Chateau. Bright ruby color. Grassy and herbal nose, with lots of leather and cinnamon, but also stone, dill, banana pepper and caramel. Tart strawberry and pomegranate on the palate, with crisp entry, full midpalate, and lingering finish. Med+ acid and some modest grip. Drink up before the fruit fades and this becomes more austere. 89-91. (4179 views)
Tasted by startinoz on 9/12/2016 & rated 93 points: 93+. Medium body. Green and rep peppers. Blackcurrant. (4474 views)
Tasted by Argrath on 4/23/2016 & rated 92 points: Full, generous nose of smoke and gravel. Good, dark fruit provides background. Integrated oak. Very nice.
Balanced, medium-fullish palate with perfect development. Fully ready. Tobacco-smoke-gravel. Lacking some stuffing for the long haul, but utterly delicious now. Good grip. (3844 views)
Tasted by Romol on 1/21/2016 & rated 90 points: Decanted 2 hours. Still young but good anyway. Needs a few years. (3232 views)
Tasted by Lady Chatelaine on 12/25/2015 & rated 90 points: Obviously not the best vintage; despite that, smooth and typical of Pape Clément.
Better after a day decanting (3119 views)
Tasted by pjbeans on 9/15/2015 & rated 93 points: Great showing in an "off" year. Approachable now, nice to not have to let these rest with the 05's and 09's (3054 views)
Tasted by pavel_p on 8/25/2015 & rated 90 points: Poured into decanter and drank over 90 min. Some sediment already. Dark garnet almost to the rim, in terms of color this could be an 08 or even an 09. Takes about 45 min in the decanter for the nose, which is initially very muted, to open up. When it happens though, this is wonderful and very Bordeaux with dark fruit, earth and herbs on the nose. Much less convincing on the palate in my eyes, clearly a wine that has been worked very hard in a difficult vintage. The dark fruit is struggling to cover the rather prominent, dry tannins of medium weight, resulting from some serious extraction. Medium (-) finish.
Would either drink now with at least 30 min decanting time or wait ate least 3-5 years and hope for the wine to find a better balance somewhere in the next 20 years. It's however not going to happen in the next few years in my eyes as there is too much tannin from the extraction and in relative terms too little fruit to balance. (3298 views)
Tasted by Blauweiss on 12/31/2014 & rated 92 points: Lovely, rich style claret. Really good for the vintage. (3637 views)
Tasted by Deloos on 10/26/2014 & rated 91 points: Gets better! Super with lamb chops. (3307 views)
Tasted by Argrath on 10/18/2014 & rated 93 points: Multilayered, nice nose. Balanced oak character, but very generous. Plums, roots, cedar and black currant. Lovely fruit. Good depth. Gravel and smoke-Pessac. School book Bdx.
Medium-fullish palate with lovely balance. Quite a lot of oak and cedar but also black currant and tertiary aromas of roots. Brilliant mid-palate but it tails off quite soon. Very succulent and generous. A success for the vintage.
When tasted a year ago I thought the finish longer, and there is a slight bitterness to the finish. Not for the long haul. (3194 views)
Tasted by Tavastgatan on 7/29/2014 & rated 92 points: @Fred_Lund: One of the wines of this difficult year. Lovely ripe nose, classically built with low alcohol. In a word - wonderful. (3605 views)
Tasted by Tavastgatan on 7/18/2014 & rated 92 points: @Fred_Lund:

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
