No oxidation, however a Far hint of laurel
Smooth (249 views)
Tasted by robert.kalinowski@gmail.com on 7/15/2023 & rated 93 points: Birthday dinner @Flour+Water. was unreal with the smoked duck pasta and delicious with everything else. Amazingly fresh and bright, after listening to Pietro on wine enthusiast website say he liked this 5-7 years after release, I was nervous, but this wine was a in great place, and I thought it has more room to run. Very happy with where it was at, tannis were tamed at present and a perfect amount of fruit, but still some tertiary notes starting to form. I will let the 2007 Rocche age more. Beautiful wine, my last 07 of this bottling. (935 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 5/6/2023 & rated 92 points: Flannery and a trio of 2007 Barolos (My place, Portland OR): The nose shows off more fruited tones of dark red cherries, raspberries, sour red berries, a touch of oak, currants, cinnamon, spice box, violets, licorice, tobacco, and tar notes. There is excellent depth to the nose that is backed up by good balance and layering. The full bodied feel is balanced and poised with tart, high acidity and silky, high tannins. This is in a great place right now and is very 2007. It is balanced with richer fruit and fresh acidity while still having a lush side to the nose and palate. (764 views)
Tasted by ccarter5181 on 10/22/2022 & rated 92 points: 20 minute decant. Similar to last tasting note 5 years ago. I found the acidity a bit more noticeable but not out of balance. Excellent overall, ready to drink. Great Nebbiolo character. (1640 views)
Tasted by Axone on 9/5/2022 & rated 93 points: Bu en demi-bouteille.
Excellent vin à maturité qui a su déjouer les pièges du millésime, aucune chaleur excessive perçue sur cette bouteille.
Bravo. (1641 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 6/28/2022 & rated 91 points: Looks like this could still benefit from more time in the cellar... (1923 views)
Tasted by Patrik H on 10/15/2021 & rated 91 points: On the nose: Cherry, cherry core, plum, herbs and red fruit. And of course the typical Barolo nose, fine tuned acetone.
On the palate: Matured cherry, bitter almond, smoked meat.
Long finish (2461 views)
Tasted by billgeorge767 on 9/26/2021 & rated 93 points: Delicious and drinking well right now. Strawberry and damp forest floor on the nose. Stewed black cherries, slightly tart strawberry/raspberry, maybe just a hint of herbal notes… well balanced, well integrated tannins, a nice level of acidity, very long finish. Terrific with classic Italian red sauce dishes. (2384 views)
Tasted by knothoef on 9/25/2021 & rated 92 points: Dark, beautiful (1928 views)
Tasted by swade on 4/26/2021 & rated 90 points: Primary, ox blood color. Nary a sign of age. Bramble and strawberry bouquet. Blueberry and sous bois on the palate. Full core of blueberry. Fine, polished tannins. Dry finish. It seemed modern and polished, which suited it well. 90 (2744 views)
(2583 views)
Tasted by CCestaro on 1/26/2021 & rated 92 points: First of a half case purchased 10 years ago. I decanted this for three hours prior to my first sip. It has a nice nose, with some funky bramble that's noticeable along with strong strawberry. The taste is also pronounced strawberry, with an earthy component, that someone below called "forest undertones", which I guess fits it. Very well balanced, with nice acidity and definite tannins still evident. This screams for Italian pasta dishes with some meat sauce....As I sip, I'm thinking pappardelle Bolognese. Many years left. (1876 views)
Tasted by salvatore65 on 12/25/2020 & rated 92 points: Decanted 2hours. Surprisingly no sediment when decanted. Sweet blueberry on the nose. Dark deep blood red in colour. Drinking well. Complex .Sweet strawberry with some forest floor . A real delight and great Qpr when I purchased it years ago . Should have bought more. This was my last bottle. Like it a lot (2064 views)
Tasted by PMHouser on 12/4/2020 & rated 93 points: Drank my last bottle of the '07 and it has aged well. Wish I had more. (2151 views)
Tasted by wicozani on 8/23/2020 & rated 93 points: One of the longest corks I've ever experienced came out without trouble. Decanted for expansive sediment five hours before pairing with the World's Best Lasagna in honor of our daughter's birthday. A dark ruby in the glass, the nice nose featured blue and red fruits, ever so slightly candied, with leather, tar, and a suggestion of orange peel. A few years have made this much more approachable, though with good acidity it will last a good while longer. Was an excellent pairing with the lasagna and very happy with multiple vintages of this wine from this producer with a pretty high QPR profile. (2346 views)
Tasted by Genghis88 on 7/28/2020 & rated 92 points: Dark ox-blood in color. Bricking rim. Full bodied.
Prunes, dates, raisins, charcoal, leather, iodine, sweet, wet earth.
Mostly tertiary notes at this point. Fruit has faded. A lot of leather, charcoal, earthy characteristics. Classic in composition. Some red licorice, and maraschino cherry. Fleeting hints of caramel. A very good wine at its peak. I would drink now or within the next 1-2 years. Good stuff! (2452 views)
Tasted by eljocco on 7/3/2020 & rated 92 points: Mognaden har nått en fin balans. Årgången sticker inte ut men håller en bra nivå. (2079 views)
Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 3/23/2020 & rated 92 points: As others have said, this is in a fabulous place now. Dusky black cherry, red fruits on the nose. Expansive palate with same fruits, maybe a little tart cranberry at the back. Tannins soft and fully resolved. Perfect companion to a pasta with red sauce. Saluti a miei amici in Italia in questo momento difficile. FORZA ITALIA!!! (2203 views)
Tasted by CarpeVinum on 1/11/2020 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully and very classic presentation. So sad I dont have more (2332 views)
Tasted by swapdoc on 6/4/2019: This bottle came off as considerably more advanced than the one I tasted a year ago. Baked fruit, strong raisiny taste, flat and hot. Lacked freshness and balance. (2771 views)
Tasted by Osiris021 on 4/6/2019 & rated 91 points: No formal notes. (2706 views)
Tasted by Heynetty on 11/26/2018: Wine Dojo - Fancy A Little italian?: Tasted Blind

A: Pale to medium garnet
N: Black berry, plum, strawberry, chocolate, violet, cedar, coffee, earth. Medium (+) nose. Fruit presents as ripe and dried. Fully developed.
P: Dry and yet some perception of RS from ripe dried fruit nature, medium (+) acid, medium (+) tannin....a lot of wood tannin ..more than the first three of the evening, high alcohol (14.3%), full body, medium (+) intensity and finish.
C: Can drink now ( in next 3 years). Very good quality indeed.Might even say outstanding actually. BLIC has ticks in all categories.

Guesses:
That dried fruit made a few guess it was some kind of Amarone but i didn't like the fit. There should have been chocolate and baking spice and almonds too. I opted for Barolo and was correct. Didn't note any VA, however. (3120 views)
Tasted by swapdoc on 11/1/2018: An embarrassment of riches. Beautiful youthful color, not even a hint of rust. Delicate flowery aroma, lilacs, tobacco leaf. Tertiary flavors, fully integrated tannins, silky yet viscous. A hint of oak, integrated and complex. Not tarry nor rosy, yet fully mature, elegant and exquisite. Full of complex fruit and wonder. (3015 views)
Tasted by maxima on 10/26/2018 & rated 91 points: Pas aussi souple et à point que le 2005 mais rudement bon.
Sur les épices et les cerises avec de beaux tannins charnus
et une finale bien longue tout en douceur. (3130 views)
Tasted by wicozani on 9/16/2018 & rated 92 points: Opened two hours before pairing with baked rigatoni with marinara and Italian sausage. A medium garnet in color with orange edges. The evocative nose features classic Nebbiolo blue fruits, ripe black currant, sweet pipe tobacco, orange rind and rose petals. Very good intensity and concentration, with negligible tannins and a sneaky long finish. Quite ethereal! At peak for a year or two. (2423 views)

Renato Ratti

producer website
In 1965, Renato Ratti bought his first vineyard for the production of Barolo, in the historical zone of Marcenasco, right below the Abbey of L’Annunziata at La Morra. In 1969, his nephew, Massimo Martinelli, joined the company and together, they perfected a technique of vinification, maturation and refinement for their Marcenasco Barolo, with the declared aim of obtaining the elegance, subtlety and longevity worthy of the variety's full potential. Since then, Renato Ratti has become an important point of reference for Langhe wines and Italian wines in general.

Producer website

Praelum: “One of the original Barolo Boys, his creation of single vineyard site bottlings created waves in Piedmont which defied tradition, bringing with them stainless steel, pumping and plunging techniques and French barriques. Rocche dell’Annunziata and Conca from La Morra are the controversial vineyards that bring to attention the new techniques of Ratti.”

Nebbiolo

Nebbiolo is a red grape indigenous to the Piedmont region of Italy in the Northwest. The grape can also be found in other parts of the world, though they are not as respected.

Nebbiolo is often considered the "king of red wines," as it is the grape of the famed wines of Barolo DOCG, Barbaresco DOCG, and Roero DOCG. It is known for high tannins and acidity, but with a distinct finesse. When grown on clay, Nebbiolo can be very powerful, tannic, and require long aging periods to reach its full potential. When grown on sand, the grape exhibits a more approachable body with more elegant fruit and less tannins, but still has high aging potential.

"Nebbiolo" is named for the Italian word, "nebbia", which means "fog", in Italian and rightfully so since there is generally a lot of fog in the foothills of Piedmont during harvest.

Nebbiolo is a late-ripening variety that does best in a continental climate that boasts moderate summers and long autumns. In Piedmont, Nebbiolo is normally harvested in October.

Regional History:
The wines of Piedmont are noted as far back as Pliny's Natural History. Due to geographic and political isolation, Piedmont was without a natural port for most of its history, which made exportation treacherous and expensive. This left the Piedmontese with little incentive to expand production. Sixteenth-century records show a mere 14% of the Bassa Langa under vine -- most of that low-lying and farmed polyculturally. In the nineteenth century the Marchesa Falletti, a frenchwoman by birth, brought eonologist Louis Oudart from Champagne to create the first dry wines in Piemonte. Along with work in experimental vineyards at Castello Grinzane conducted by Camilo Cavour -- later Conte di Cavour, leader of the Risorgimento and first Prime Minister of Italy -- this was the birth of modern wine in the Piedmont. At the heart of the region and her reputation are Alba and the Langhe Hills. This series of weathered outcroppings south of the Tanaro River is of maritime origin and composed mainly of limestone, sand and clay, known as terra bianca. In these soils -located mainly around the towns of Barolo and Barbaresco -- the ancient allobrogica, now Nebbiolo, achieves its renowned fineness and power.
