3 excellents vins! SUPERBE! (721 views) | | Tasted by corkscrews on 1/11/2024 & rated 93 points: A nose of cherry and some spice, dark garnet in color. A medium to full bodied Super Tuscan, with blackberry, black cherry, smoke and spice on smooth finish. In a perfect drinking zone, decant due to sediment. From signed Michael Mondavi bottle. www.winelx.com (501 views) | | Tasted by Guido L. on 8/10/2023 & rated 93 points: Very nice and ready to drink now. Ripe fruits of black cherry, black currant, black berry, dark chocolate, some leather and a hint of tobacco. Smooth and integrated tannins. (844 views) | | Tasted by IndyTom on 1/10/2023 & rated 92 points: Upon first taste, it was dry and lifeless. After about an hour in the decanter, it evolved wonderfully with a seamless texture, fully integrated tannins and dark red fruits. Stunning with a rich beef stew. (1354 views) | | Tasted by gbbwino on 12/26/2022 & rated 89 points: Strange experience. Very vegetal & off putting upon opening. Almost flawed. Let glass sit in glass for 60 minutes & it was a different wine. Left remaining bottle vacuvined. Next day. Still vegetal. Fruit was very primary but green notes were off putting. Confusing experience (1152 views) | | Tasted by Liskit on 12/7/2022 & rated 92 points: Coffee and cooked dark fruits, balsamic, very smooth, round, medium length (1176 views) | | Tasted by millesime66 on 12/22/2021: En effet, à 58$ -15% en Avril 2009, c'était un excellent RQP. (2291 views) | | Tasted by darrenhe on 4/23/2021 & rated 88 points: I guess it depends if you like mature wines as to whether this is a hit or a miss for you! I quite like this 2006 - I have been fortunate to have drunk a 12 bottle case over the last 10 years plus. This is definitely mature and is showing deep rich dark and bitter fruits. Nose has decay and menthol to the fore. Tannin has pretty much fully evolved. Not drunk with food as yet but guessing rich cheeses would be a good bet. You definitely miss any bright fruits due to age but I also don’t think it’s past it! However I think that 2008 and 2009 are drinking better! I bought 3 btls on release at a weak moment trusting a fairly reliable critic's raving tasting notes & score. This is my 2nd of 3 and while its tasty its also ubber modern and one of those Italian wines that comes to mind in the movie Mondovino where the director pursues the notion that many a great wine has been "Parkerized" and neutered by too much oak. This wine taste and feels like it could come from just about anywhere. Its a winemaker's wine. Technically good, flavorful but lacking terroir expression. That said, many wine drinkers will love this a lot more than I do. Easily 90pts plus for the right palate. This was one those wines over the years that drives home to me how meaningless critic's scores can be. I trust my palate and producers who prove themselves to me vs. critics. Paid $45 drinks like $15-$25 tops. Impeccable. Cabernet dominant. (1739 views) | | Tasted by MilesLP on 7/4/2020 & rated 92 points: very good wine, balanced, firm, cherry primary, good finish (1655 views) | | Tasted by SimonG on 6/26/2020 & rated 91 points: Beautiful deep and full ruby. Bright. Lovely plush, finely velvety texture with plummy, even slightly chocolately flavours, starting to show some earthy development, but mainly just very smooth, resolved dark red fruit. Lithe. Not quite the complexity for top flight, but a lovely wine, probably at its peak. **** (1661 views) | | Tasted by pigdaddy on 3/31/2020 & rated 90 points: decanted 30 min. supple, resolved, some might even say "smooth"; completely mature, dominated by its merlot component on nose & palate, tannins resolved; still in its drinking window. last one.
bucatini w/meatballs (1869 views) | | Tasted by darrenhe on 1/25/2020 & rated 91 points: Had a bottle of the 2006 last year and didn't write a note as was dissapointed. I thought the wine had gone past its best but I am delighted to discover this isn't the case. I have just popped and poured the first glass and couldn't wait for my Reidel O decanter to do its work! Its a bit disjointed and there is a lot of menthol on the nose. However the tannins are still there but they are soft and dusty and there is already a core of dark rich fruits. Its enjoyable on its own but would be excellent with some food. Unfortunately its curry night with Calcutta Chicken and Tarka Dhal - not sure it will be the best match! (2037 views) | | Tasted by Vaughanwallace on 10/6/2019 & rated 94 points: Chocolate box. Oaky. Full bodied. Very good. (2119 views) | | Tasted by Eags25 on 6/15/2019 & rated 92 points: Needed an hour+ in decanter for fruit to mellow and integrate but when that happened...beautiful. (2398 views) | | Tasted by Primordialsoup on 4/6/2019 & rated 93 points: Quality terroir showing here. One could be fooled into believing this is a modern Bordeaux. Handsome nose. Dark fruit, loamy with graphite and earth. Spine and flesh intertwined. Warm and inviting. Drinking really well after 2 hour decant. Fully integrated. Delicious. (3224 views) | | Tasted by LARich on 4/5/2019 & rated 91 points: Classic and drinking well. (2216 views) | | Tasted by Snag One on 1/5/2019 & rated 93 points: Deep dark ruby red. Essence of tar, loam, bacon fat and pencil lead. Very well balanced tannins and acidity that makes way for layers of black cherries, mint, dried figs, black licorice and cassis. This wine has aged beautifully with about another five cellar years left. (2296 views) | | Tasted by Rezy13 on 1/9/2018: Tuesday Night Double Blind $40+: Black core with thin rusty rim; dark fruit, pruny, smoke, raisins, super ripe; if not Amarone then this bottle was cooked. Producer Location (Google Maps)Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Serre NuoveA true ‘Second vin’ of Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia was first introduced with vintage 1997, resulting from the decision to carry out an even more rigid selection during the blending phase of the base wines which give life to Ornellaia. Produced primarily from the younger vineyards, the wine combines the pedigree of the flagship wine with freshness, accessibility and softness together with a structure, balance and intensity typical of the great terroir of the Estate.
Red Bordeaux BlendRed Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.
Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.Italy Italian Wines (ItalianMade.com, The Italian Trade Commission) | Italian Wine Guide on the WineDoctorTuscany Tuscany (ItalianMade.com) | TuscanytBolgheri On weinlagen-infoBolgheri On weinlagen-info |
