Tasted by CDT on 12/31/2023 & rated 93 points: Tasted after a 45 minute decant. Dark ruby in colour with a definite garnet hue. Initial aromas were an earthy forest floor transitioning to herbal, mocha, leather with a hint of black fruit. On the palate, medium to full bodied, juicy black fruit, blackberry/black cherry/cassis, more herbal than floral, hint cedar, earthy, olive tapinade, medium acidity, high soft tannins with a long finish to spice, cassis & leather. Flavour is changing as the wine opens up, nicely done! (522 views)
Tasted by gbbwino on 2/4/2023 & rated 92 points: PNP. This wine needs more time in the bottle, but it is very good now. Dense dark fruit profile with wonderful secondary characteristics. Decant for 1-2 hours minimum now. Have 1 more & will wait at least 5 more years. (1455 views)
Tasted by Life At Your Leisure 🍷 on 11/5/2022 & rated 93 points: Dark garnet color turning crimson at the rim with a reflective edge. The nose gives off smoked mushrooms, tobacco, leather and forest floor from the black and red berries. Now that it has come with considerable age, the wine has reached a proper balance of primary, secondary and even tertiary flavors. At the onset, the palate is silky smooth with medium acidity to lift the ripe black currant, cassis and black cherry compote with secondary flavors of cedar, dark chocolate and pencil shavings all the way to a very smooth, silky textural finish with hints of salinity that’s so enticing and elegant. Drink now until 2028. (1557 views)
Tasted by Bin707LoversDetroit on 9/15/2022 & rated 92 points: Coravin'd a glass. Wow this welcoming, rich, velvety blend is a beauty. Normally we wouldn't even bother to leave a TN for a single glass, knowing we'd be enjoying the bottle soon.

But golly, this is G O O D stuff!!!

Many awesome bottles remind us of 10+ YO Penfolds juice, w tobacco, pepper, smoke & earth. This is one of those relished gems.

Couldn't get a feel for aeration and how or whether it'd get better with time, because, well, um, the glass was empty nearly as quick as it was set at the table for the yummy vegetarian red pasta sauce dish.

This is dinner table, yum.

We'll detail out further info when we fork out the cork.

Enjoy. (1845 views)

Tasted by wkphang on 3/23/2022: Popped and pour, noticeable spicy notes.
Decanted the rest and the spiciness level decreased.
Somewhat muted in secondary notes, primary black berries and plums not very inviting.
Best drink up. (2160 views)
Tasted by DFBW on 3/6/2022 & rated 93 points: About as good as a second wine gets and sitting perfectly in it's drinking window. Smooth, supple and silky wine with lovely dark berry fruit. Delicious (1476 views)
Tasted by Rocuronium on 1/24/2022 & rated 94 points: Spectacular. (1533 views)
Tasted by paintinginacave on 9/23/2021 & rated 90 points: Drank a small glass. A medium purple core fading to a medium ruby outer edge. A subdued and pyrazine dominant upon opening. Following a three hour double decant it became more expressive and came across as very Merlot dominant - blackcurrant, campfire smoke, roasted tomatoes, tobacco leaf, and floral notes of iris - despite there being 41% Cabernet in the blend. It does have a touch of elegance you find in good Bordeaux and showed well on the palate with impressive balance and concentration. (1900 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 7/7/2021 & rated 90 points: A mature colour with some brown; mature blackcurrant and plum flavours, with some oak still evident although it is now well integrated. A good example, and very good now. (1844 views)
Tasted by Bluth on 7/3/2021 & rated 91 points: Dark cherries and leather nose on the front, sweet tone of overripe dark cherries with cinnamon when breathe deeper. Full body, concentrated, deep and long finish yet elegant. Last in fridge for more than two weeks after being uncorked. Surpass many grand vin au Pauillac. (1492 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 4/19/2021 & rated 90 points: A mature colour with a touch of brown; fully mature on the palate, with plum/damson fruit, a slight earthiness and good depth. Good but not special. (1704 views)

Tasted by CDT on 2/26/2021 & rated 93 points: Dark ruby in colour with aromas of sweet black fruit, earth/forest floor & oak.
On the palate, lovely black fruit, blackberry, cassis, blueberry, earth/forest floor, well integrated oak with medium to high acidity & medium soft, silky tannins. The finish is long to spice & pepper and this wine is balanced, elegant & classy. Excellent! (1418 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 9/24/2020 & rated 89 points: A mid-red colour; now tasting mature, still with some vigour but perhaps a little attenuated still the end. A good wine still, but it has been better. (1845 views)
Tasted by Mark van Delft on 8/28/2020 & rated 92 points: Excellent 2nd wine from Ornellaia: plum, black currant, blackberries, dried red fruit, balsamic note, espresso, medium to full body, strong finish (1909 views)
Tasted by SeaSmoke on 6/29/2020 & rated 91 points: Similar notes to my March 20 review. No rush to drink this. It has a long life ahead. (1970 views)
Tasted by aknot13 on 5/31/2020 & rated 93 points: Nose: all dark fruits, vanilla, leather and lots of coffee. Mouth: dark fruits, excellent acidity, medium body, medium length, balanced and so much better than a couple of years ago. At peak, drink now. 93 pt. (2136 views)
Tasted by Samaul on 4/25/2020 & rated 90 points: Bra tanniner, körsbär, läder, sötlakrits, örter, lite vanilj. Klara mognadstoner i färgen. Väl balanserat. (2179 views)
Tasted by SeaSmoke on 3/23/2020 & rated 91 points: Decanted for two hours. Blackberries, plums, leather, and mocha on the nose and palate. This wine is medium-bodied and well balanced, with a medium finish. Very Bordeaux like. Drinking well currently. (1756 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 12/24/2019 & rated 90 points: A deep colour; rich, brambly fruit with spice and oak. Still a vigorous wine and will probably keep well although it is in fact very attractive now. A fine example. (1901 views)
Tasted by Iceman16 on 12/6/2019 & rated 94 points: Got to say, my review is a blend of a number of comments found below — this trully feels like a mini-Ornellaia as it has a thick/dense long lasting chocolaty, spicy and smoked fruits aromas. Drank over two days, I would have seen this one go for another 5 minimum as the wine did not show any sign of ageing. At $49 back in the days, should have bought a case, now at $70 CAD, different story altough I’ll still get my hands on 1-2 magnum of 2016 to see how well it holds in the long run. Had the 2015 Argentiera about a month ago which was slightly better IMO than the Serre only for the lesser smoked fruits flavor. Very well done here!! Cheers! (1815 views)
Tasted by Édifice on 8/12/2019 & rated 93 points: Surprisingly good wine, feels like a mini Ornellaia, now in a great drinking window. Open from the start, yet becomes richer with some air. Has a round feel, slight chocolatey note, from the Merlot, yet still some tension, light structure, and is not overdone. Finish is not very long though, and whilst it gained a little with some air, would not decant too much, keep bottle opened too long. (2113 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 8/4/2019 & rated 90 points: A dark colour; full, concentrated blackcurrant/blackberry fruit which tastes slightly burnt. This seems reasonably mature, but the finish is a bit restrained. May yet improve a little. (1842 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 7/19/2019 & rated 91 points: A deep colour, garnet/brown; this is drinking very well now, mature but not old, with rich, slightly spicy plum/blackberry fruit and well integrated oak. A very good second wine. (1798 views)

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove

A true ‘Second vin’ of Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia was first introduced with vintage 1997, resulting from the decision to carry out an even more rigid selection during the blending phase of the base wines which give life to Ornellaia. Produced primarily from the younger vineyards, the wine combines the pedigree of the flagship wine with freshness, accessibility and softness together with a structure, balance and intensity typical of the great terroir of the Estate.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.
