Tasted by traxxx on 12/22/2021 & rated 93 points: PNP 2 bottles last night. Wine was great from the start. Well integrated fruit and earth with no fall off of either for the 90 minutes it took to finish the bottles. drink now or within next 3 years... (1056 views)
Tasted by clayh55 on 12/9/2021 & rated 92 points: Bottle at restaurant. Old but in fantastic condition. Beautifully balanced acidity and tannins - old wine characteristics like mushrooms, forest floor. Still some fruit but pretty subdued. Nose had some balsamic notes perhaps - some meat notes but maybe because we were in a churrascario. If this wine has been cellared properly, it is a treat. (1040 views)
Tasted by jgh123 on 11/24/2021 & rated 90 points: Interesting nose of beef broth, chocolate and cocoa. Nice black fruit. Tannins waning but acidity beginning to dominate the fruit. Drink up. (1063 views)
Tasted by JS1056 on 2/9/2018 & rated 88 points: Pretty big nose of plum and cherry.
Three years ago, I noted that the fruit was still there but was fading. And I think this has come to pass. There is some plum but in general the fruit has faded away.
The tannins are fine but the acidity has moved into your face and takes away from the enjoyment even with food. (2261 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 10/21/2017: Very cabbish and dry/modern--beef bouillion and wood prominent, doesn't seem as old--or Italian--as it is. Good but circumstantially disadvantaged with the food which had shown so well with the generous Brunello and old CdP that preceded it--this needed meat. (2456 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 10/19/2017 & rated 93 points: Medium red. Lovely nose of earth, black currant, cherry, roasted beef and cedar box. Delicious dark fruit and beef flavours and a long tannic finish. Still could show improvement. (1753 views)
Tasted by chefdilletante on 9/21/2015: Still fairly vigorous. Right now tannins are integrated though still assertive. Structure is good. However, a classic Cabernet profile dominates and the aromatics are muted and tertiary characteristics are limited. Fine drinking now but you may want give it a bit longer of twirl in the cellar.  Tasted by George C ATLANTA on 9/17/2014 & rated 100 points: My first perfect score!! What can I say, from the very start a beautiful silky mouthfeel of beautiful floral then crushed berries then licorice and finally espresso flavors.... a finish that would not stop, literally 20 minutes long. If Italy had first growths, this would be it. A SUPER Tuscan on steroids, drinking absolutely amazingly now. Paired with foie gras, lamb chops, and chocolate cake. (4270 views)
Tasted by JS1056 on 7/17/2013 & rated 89 points: Drank last evening with grilled porterhouse. Really nice. Probably should have decanted since there was a ton of sediment. Tannins are tamed. Some remnants of dark fruit remain but they are starting to move into the background. Spice and earth notes starting to emerge. Would have liked to have tasted after a couple of hours but it disappeared quickly. I guess everyone liked it. (3811 views)

Tasted by traxxx on 9/24/2010 & rated 93 points: plummy with loads of dark fruit on the palate..good balance with long smooth finish. Drinking really nice now. Some sediment. Great wine... (2748 views)
Tasted by EMichels on 12/26/2009 & rated 91 points: Rich brown sugar nose; Rich; Ripe but not overly so; Big wine (2915 views)
Tasted by shazen on 12/24/2009: This one is going to take a bit of time to sort out....freshly opened and and poured, needs a bit of time then we'll see...a bit sceptical at this point. (3109 views)
Tasted by JohnSh on 9/15/2009 & rated 91 points: Notes from last night. I thought this producer was making increasingly 'international' wines, but this was a pleasant surprise. Medium bodied, with elegance the key feature of the wine. No oak presence to speak of, with soft red fruit and a slight green note that didn't detract. Really opened up after 2-3 hours in the decanter. Slightly muted nose, but tasty wine overall (A-) (2998 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 7/30/2008: 4BOW: Italian Wines (Backstreet Wine Salon): Chemical nose of brown sugar and oak. Tastes of blackberry, cherry, leather and earth. Firm tannins. Hot finish with notes of stewed plumb and prune. No rating. 14% alcohol. (3854 views)
Tasted by jivey on 7/30/2008: Not Rated. I was picking up TCA, Reduction and soy sauce but half the table disagreed so I will try this again another time (3279 views)
Tasted by goofy Yno on 7/30/2008: wood, malassis, fruity attack followed by sour bitter finish (3366 views)

Tasted by StevenBerman on 11/9/2007 & rated 90 points: Wow. That was wonderful. Very full bodied full of fruit and incredible body. (3682 views)
Tasted by Cellared on 6/8/2007: Still oak dominated on the nose and the palate. The second day showed more fruit but had to fight thru the oak. I'm not sure this will ever get better but we'll try it again in a year. (3942 views)
Tasted by Lorien on 12/24/2003 & rated 88 points: Nice ruby red color. Aromas of red wild fruits, vanilla, wood, and some strawberry. Taking a sip reveals a medium to full body wine, with a nice acidic start, that soon gets knocked out of the way with loads of young oak and tannins. Flavors of ripe grapes, plums and again - oak. Not enough concentration, and the less than exciting level of fruitiness, was more or less being overwhelmed by the heavy oak. I was not impressed at all with the wine’s balance, as it was lacking the very much needed acidity. Reasonable finish, with a nice aftertaste of ripe fruits. Though the wine does feel young, and I am pretty sure it will develop positively to some degree in the next five years or so, I do though think it won’t turn into anything great. Something just doesn’t feel right about the wine’s structure. The lack of complexity didn’t make it anymore favorable either. (11475 views)

Tenuta Sette Ponti

Producer website

U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Tenuta Sette Ponti lies in the heart of the Chianti area, not far away from Arezzo. The oldest vines were planted in 1935 by Duke Amadeo d’Aosto vice-king of Ethiopia, in remembrance of a victory. It has been the property of different members of the Italian royal family until the end of the 1950s, when architect Alberto Moretti bought it from Princesses Margherita and Maria Cristina di Savoia d’Aosta, daughters of Vittorio Emanuele III, king of Italy from 1900 to 1946. The Moretti family started working at the estate as soon as the end of autumn 1957. In 1996, Antonio Fioravante Moretti, Alberto’s son, took over. He was the leader of a group of companies in the sector of luxury and fashion, but decided to follow his passion. He decided to bottle the wine directly at the estate. His 1998 Crognolo and his 1999 Oreno have both become symbols of the oenological vocation of Tuscany. The winemaker is Carlo Ferrini, one of the best in Italy, who also works for other prestigious Tuscan estates such as Fattoria di Petrolo, Talenti and Brancaia. The vineyards comprise 150 acres. The estate, like many Tuscan estates, is multi-dimensional. The huge 750-acre property incorporates a stud farm for race horses, breeding of native Tuscan Chiana cattle, a preserve for a rare breed of pig, and fields of sun flowers and maze.

The Sette Ponti estate lies fifteen miles northwest of the city of Arezzo in the heart of the Chianti zone. The name Sette Ponti translates as "seven bridges" and refers to the seven bridges crossing the Arno River on the road from Arezzo to Florence.
Curiously, in a region where 200-year-old wineries are commonplace, Sette Ponti didn't even make wine until 1997, when owner, Dr. Antonio Moretti, asked his good friend Piero Antinori if he thought the estate could produce great wines. Antinori's response, loosely translated, was "Ya, sure, ya betcha!"

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.
