Tasted by winoma on 5/26/2018 & rated 90 points: For a 22 year old Napa cab, this wine still had some fruit and good balance after a decant. Impressive. (2846 views)
Tasted by smcilhen on 5/23/2014 & rated 84 points: Very different from the last bottle I had of this, which was stored for 15 years by a friend (this was an auction bottle). Hardly any fruit left. Nice nose and decent acidity. Not much of a finish. Past its prime unless you have a pristine bottle.

84 points; purchased from winebid.com for $46 in January 2014 (5416 views)
Tasted by KPieper on 4/15/2014: Opened for my daughter's 18th birthday. Garnet colored with definite bricking. aromas of earth and mushrooms. Same on the palate. Smooth and round with some acidity on the finish. Definitely past it's prime, but enjoyable nonetheless. (5402 views)
Tasted by Sharmajd on 11/28/2013 & rated 90 points: The wine looks Garnet colored. The legs are Medium. It smells like Mushroom, Mineral, and Medium Toast. The body is Medium. The wine has Round texture. The wine finishes Medium. (5679 views)
Tasted by smcilhen on 1/27/2013: This was the wine of the night (for me). Popped and poured. If I drank it blind I would have bet my life that it was a Bordeaux....the nose was a dead ringer for it. Smooth and perfectly integrated. At peak and I thought it could go another 5 years.

Awesome! (6415 views)
Tasted by Frinkcorkz on 11/26/2012: Bouquet of plastic bandage. Flavor starts out as rubbing alcohol, then sweet cat pee (from a diabetic cat), and finally, a warming sensation in my stomach. Wine is definitely passed drinkable. Poured the bottle out. (4952 views)
Tasted by no leashes on 7/29/2012 & rated 90 points: I couldn't disagree more with the reviewers commenting that this wine is past its time. When properly stored (as was mine) it is still vibrant, with dark fruit, cassis, tobacco and a hint of licorice, with a nice finish, medium bodied and well balanced. I had it with a grilled NY strip and it was singing. (3152 views)
Tasted by Winestache on 12/31/2011 & rated 85 points: Disappointing. waited too long (3436 views)
Tasted by gpwiner on 2/19/2011 & rated 89 points: Smooth and no more tannins. Took some time to open and the palette opened over 30 minutes. Rich in fruit and some earthiness. Meek finish (probably because it was past it's time), left a pleasant after taste. (3857 views)
Tasted by Falco203 on 11/5/2010 & rated 89 points: Over aged. complex dark fruit mix. Still has a great nose but somewhat disappointing on the palet. (3819 views)
Tasted by GA on 8/26/2010 & rated 93 points: 8/10 Concentrated dark fruit with a balanced chocolate layered and structured finish. 93pts. (3677 views)
Tasted by EvanJB on 5/9/2010: Not bad yet, but on it's way down, no real fruit left, but a smooth, mature, but too soft. (3718 views)
Tasted by scampbell on 3/17/2010 & rated 85 points: Past its prime. Improves with aeration. Disappears on the finish. (3710 views)
Tasted by PilotBrad on 2/9/2010 & rated 89 points: Smooth but weak. (3745 views)
Tasted by PilotBrad on 2/7/2010 & rated 90 points: Smooth but weak. (3718 views)
Tasted by patobrien45 on 1/24/2010 & rated 90 points: Very smooth. My last bottle. (3773 views)
Tasted by drstack on 11/13/2009: world series of wine tasting 2009 (3809 views)
Tasted by EvanJB on 3/8/2009: way past it's prime, or was due to poor storage from prior owner (3926 views)
Tasted by bryon m on 2/2/2009 & rated 89 points: Drank side by side during Superbowl gathering. The 92 LaTour was still good, it was light in color and body but had some rutherford bench dust and light fruit flavors. The Caymus had better color and more body. The Caymus was equally enjoyable. The Heitz Napa evolved more than the others over the time it was open. At the begining it was not pleasant, it had a green bell pepper type flavors but after an hour it became more soft and less green. I still think for the money a great value. (802 views)
Tasted by mchrist on 12/17/2008 & rated 87 points: Drank at the Annual Guys dinner at the UC. Very approachable. No appreciable tannins. Time to drink now I would say. I sense that the wine will have little more to offer down the Rd. (4122 views)
Tasted by ogres3 on 8/2/2008 & rated 89 points: Very approachable. Not a huge finish. Had with squid ink linquini. (4099 views)
Tasted by wjcole on 6/15/2008 & rated 91 points: Drank this wine with grilled lamb chops. Lovely mature bouquet, satisfying flavor and nice finish. Possibly a little past its prime, drink up. (4272 views)
Tasted by Harley1199 on 1/5/2008: HJ book had the following advise: this vintage is falling down very quickly so do not wait so much for drinking it. He was, as ever, absolutly right! Are you sure? A nice CS, very ripe, full of eucaliptus aromas, fruits and terroir.

(4455 views)
Tasted by Lando on 11/18/2007 & rated 88 points: Lovely nose of blackberry & sweet tobacco. Smooth with a decent amount of fruit left-mainly dark berries. Finish is a little shorter than I expected from this wine. IMO, it's time to drink this one up. (4345 views)
Tasted by pepeelvis on 1/30/2007: Lush fruit, with nice tabacoo notes. Might be peaking, but will definitely hold out for a couple more years. (4753 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
