Tasted by scott davis on 11/12/2017 & rated 91 points: Dark purple color, with wild berry, blueberry, and an herbal note on the nose. The palate shows plush ripe blueberry, plum, and currant notes, with soft tannins. Plenty of life remaining. (842 views)
Tasted by JavaMonkey on 10/4/2014 & rated 92 points: Same as the last bottle: This is drinking beautifully right now. The fruit has blossomed. Dark, plummy fruit, with some tobacco, loam, a hint of pine. The fruit is delicious, you could almost mistake it for a Zinfandel, but it's a little more angular. Tannins are still present, it's nicely balanced, although slightly on the fruity side. Very full palate, delicious, wonderful stuff. Probably best to drink soon. (1999 views)
Tasted by JavaMonkey on 8/20/2014 & rated 92 points: What a difference from the last bottle. This is drinking beautifully right now. (2048 views)
Tasted by MillerRoad on 5/12/2013: This is still drinking very well. (2555 views)
Tasted by Jmartin on 10/22/2012: Wonderful cab. (3068 views)
Tasted by dougsmith on 9/28/2012 & rated 92 points: Black with a deep ruby rim. Big, intense nose of black fruit, pepper and lots of aromatic herbs. Also intense and full bodied on the palate, with loads of presence. Definitely hedonistic. (2343 views)
Tasted by marka on 7/14/2012 & rated 88 points: - Aromas of bell pepper, blackberry, black pepper and violet and has flavours of blackberry and black pepper - This is a good of a bottle for 35 as Cedarville is for 25. Quite fruity, yet balanced. Last of the 06s. This needs to stay on my buy list as I pare down. (1727 views)
Tasted by whits on 5/26/2012 & rated 88 points: Tons of cabernet character, menthol and dark berries on the nose, shows oaked richness, mocha, cocoa, mint and vanilla, good menthol nuances but a bit on the oak-rich side, good with steak (1922 views)
Tasted by njAndrew on 3/25/2012: Needed 30 minutes to open up and was best 1-2 hrs in. Dark fruit with a touch of oak. Smooth tannins. Throwing off some sediment. (1673 views)
Tasted by galewskj on 12/13/2011 & rated 91 points: Day 1, a nice nose, very full-bodied, a bit tannic, and a bit tart on the long finish. Day 3 just yummy. Smooth tannins, a great nose, and delicious to drink. There is still a bit of alcohol on the finish. (1683 views)
Tasted by Jmartin on 6/30/2011: Logging over a week later, so no specific notes eyond I know we enjoyed this very much. Sojourn is a rising star. (1845 views)
Tasted by kahuna75 on 1/28/2011 & rated 90 points: big full dark fruit all the way through with well integrated oak- sadly this did not last long enough for any solid secondary flavors to develop-LOL that is the price to pay- next bottle i swear will give more time- (2019 views)
Tasted by JavaMonkey on 11/22/2010 & rated 88 points: Dark ruby-purple color. The nose has blackberry, cassis, leather, just a little charred wood. The palate is a little spicy, and there's a little bit of pruney fruit as well. The finish adds some vanilla. It's a little stereotypical mid-level California Cab with the dark fruit-spice-vanilla profile, in fact I tasted this blind, and that's what I pegged it as. Still, it's interesting enough and balanced enough to be very enjoyable. (2201 views)
Tasted by winopops3 on 10/30/2010 & rated 90 points: Tobacco, attic dust, dark fruit on nose. Dark fruit, anise, tobacco on palate. Nice mouth feel. Long finish. The only detraction is a little jammy, pruney (minor). Nice wine (2332 views)
Tasted by curtispomeroy on 10/30/2010 & rated 90 points: I get a combo of caramel and creme brulee on the nose plus lots of dark fruits. An easy drinking cab that is pure pleasure. (2281 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 9/15/2010 & rated 90 points: 14.6% ABV. Opaque dark garnet in the glass. Herbal, slightly earthy nose. Medium full bodied with herbal tangy currant fruit. This strikes me as something like a cool climate Cab despite finishing at 14.6 (at least that's what they put on the label). Decent, but a little herbal for my preference. (2459 views)
Tasted by psoals on 8/7/2010 & rated 89 points: Notes of mint chocolate, pleasant mid palate and finish. I wish I could grow grapes like this in my backyard! (2531 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 6/21/2010 & rated 91 points: 14.6% ABV. Dark garnet somewhat translucent in the glass. Somewhat herbal nose with suggestions of eucalyptus and mint. Underlying oak. Medium full bodied with semisweet red currant fruit and a light leafy character. Pretty good. (2687 views)
Tasted by davudvl on 6/13/2010 & rated 92 points: Nice and smooth. Decanted for 3 hrs. Was even better the next day after a full day of decanting. (2666 views)
Tasted by kscopela on 4/14/2010 & rated 91 points: Easy drinking cab with currant flavors. (2820 views)
Tasted by winosis3 on 3/31/2010 & rated 90 points: lovely to drink. nice and smooth. 4 on the Yum (2931 views)
Tasted by Meembo on 2/14/2010 & rated 91 points: This wine tastes like blackberry pie with vanilla ice cream. Very delicious with hints of smoke and leather. After about three hours, this hits a very awkward, bitter, green phase. (2942 views)
Tasted by JasonG on 2/6/2010 & rated 91 points: Surprisingly dense flavor, long lasting cab profile. Tannins are a bit more harsh than the regular cab or of course the reserve, but an outstanding value for Sonoma cab. (2811 views)
Tasted by pkbackman on 12/24/2009 & rated 93 points: Unexpectedly fantastic. One of the best wines of our Christmas weekend, and we had a bunch. Creamy smooth oak and rich dark red fruit with a touch of cigar box. Really really good stuff. (3202 views)
Tasted by OneLastSyrah on 12/18/2009: 14.6% ABV. Dark garnet, somewhat translucent in the glass. Rich sweet smelling nose with a touch of sweet carmelized sugar and blackberry. Accessible, sweet vanilla blackfruit on the palate. Good. (3058 views)

2006 Sojourn Cabernet Sauvignon Home Ranch Vineyard

Producer factsheet

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Sonoma County

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
