Tasted by bravo.solares on 3/18/2024 & rated 93 points: This is still drinking exceptionally well. Slow ox’d for 6 hours. Nose is superb - black fruits, tobacco, cedar box, damp earth. Wine is more youthful than I would have thought, both visually and in the palate. Black currants, blackberries, tobacco, earthy notes. Good minerality, and enough acidity to keep this fresh. This should age further, and likely develop more tertiaries, over the next 5yrs - likely more. Paired beautifully with ribeye steaks. My last bottle. I wish I had more. (486 views)
 Tasted by garymouton on 1/2/2024 & rated 95 points: Slo-ox 4 hours.
Obtained from winery. For this bottle at least, Tanzer's note from 2020 closer to what I drank than Galloni recent note. No bricking, good black fruit in good balance with mild secondary elements and tannins still present but proportional. Could have mistaken for Bdx in a ripe year. Bottles with this provenance (I have had two) can go 10 more years easily, maybe 15. Even a half bottle we recently drank had plenty of life left. Not the over-the-top style of some Napa cabs and I really enjoyed drinking this. I think it can even improve some from here. (888 views)
Tasted by Matthesen on 5/8/2023 & rated 96 points: Opened and decanted for about an hour.
Very dark purple ... doesn't look 22 years old.
Very pretty nose of cassis, currant, a bit of cigar box.
Nicely balanced palate with Med tannin, enough acidity to keep it fresh, and a long finish. Lovely dark fruit with intensity and focus. Brilliant now, but will last and improve as the tannins continue to soften. I am still drinking 1991 and 1992 which show well today. The 2001 will last another 20 years easily. A treat and a tremendous value (2254 views)
Tasted by Mark1npt on 3/14/2023 flawed bottle: Picked this bottle up from Spectrum Auctions last year. Sitting in a cool cellar on its side since. Bought it to drink with a friend who's a big Beringer Private Reserve guy and he finally arrived in the last few days to enjoy a few bottles with his drinking buddies. Pnp'd to find what smelled like a cork fault to me at first but it was faint and also smelled strongly of freshly tilled black dirt. That was the predominant nose on the cork, just black dirt....so into a decanter for a few hours yesterday afternoon, prior to our event. I tried to sample a small pour over the next few hours but just couldn't do it whenever I brought the glass close enough to my face! Carol said "it's skunk ass!" And she was probably right. I've never encountered a bottle like this in my wine drinking life. Poured it back into the bottle under its cork (for all of 20 minutes) to take to HMCs for our event. Removed the cork and warned them about what they were going to taste. Behold......it actually improved in bottle. A tad of fruit became identifiable on the nose, but just a tad. We all had sips for a few minutes but then it became clearer to everyone that the wine was bad and going downhill rapidly from that point. Oxygen was NOT its friend. Depriving it of oxygen was. Down the drain it went.....like everyone else on here who's had a number of wines over the years, I've had some corked bottles before, and actually drank a few of them in spite of their fault, but this was by far the weirdest behaving and most "skunk ass" outlier of them all.  Tasted by shafer1994 on 12/27/2022 & rated 96 points: Ripe Cabernet. Deep color, fruity and ripe nose. Dark fruits, black currant, some smoke. Wonderful sweetness. Excellent concentration. Long and intense finish. Wouldn’t hold it too long. (2496 views)
Tasted by wynnewood500 on 10/31/2022: I think this would have been better, perhaps even excellent, if I had decanted. (2711 views)
Tasted by wynnewood500 on 10/16/2022: PNP in a restaurant. Should have decanted. Improved over dinner but not great. Purchased at winery and stored in temperature controlled cellar since purchase. (2424 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 6/13/2022: One more excellent bottle similar to the last. Won’t get better but very nice right now (2193 views)
Tasted by MindMuse on 6/10/2022: Great showing for this. (1790 views)
Tasted by Brian of Mull on 4/23/2022 & rated 94 points: We are having too much wine tonight celebrating our Ukrainians friends who made it to our house in America. PnP and from Magnum. Color is deep garnet/purple. Nose: Cassis, plum and some sour funk. Palate: Plum, dark chocolate, cassis and baking spices. Flavors are deep and broad. This is really in a good place. More European than Napa which is a good thing. I am just happy to be with my Ukrainian friends after all my years working there and my grandmother is from Ukraine . God bless Ukraine. (1869 views)
Tasted by IanAltman on 4/9/2022 & rated 95 points: Worth the wait. Popped and poured. Didn't need a decant. Perfect cork. If you have a bottle, now is a good time to open it. It was fabulous, and I don't see it getting much better. Classic CA cabernet. (1620 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 3/12/2022 & rated 94 points: I’ve had a few of these over the years and they have never been disappointing. Full bodied, structured but with well integrated tannins. Ripe black fruit, tobacco and herbs comes through. This wine remains focused and finishes long and satisfying. (1786 views)
Tasted by Craig15 on 2/20/2022 & rated 94 points: What an exceptional bottle. The color and nose do not at all betray the age. Full color to the rim, very little bricking. So much fruit aroma wafting up as I poured into the decanter.

Dark fruit, cassis, graphite, leather, cedar on the nose. The palate in the first couple hours was dominated by purple fruit. That backed off and the earth, leather, tobacco, came in and played alongside. Still quite a bit of structure, though the tannin and acid are completely integrated. The finish is medium in length and dominated by the leather, tobacco, and earth with just a hint of that fruit under it all and hanging on the longest. This paired well with ribeye and mushroom risotto.

This bottle could easily have gone another 10 years. Really wish I had another to drop in on in the future. (1533 views)
Tasted by bravo.solares on 8/30/2021 & rated 93 points: This is drinking exceptionally well. Slow ox’d for 5 hours. Nose is superb - black fruits, tobacco, cedar box, and notes of almost blue cheese. Black currants, blackberries, tobacco, earthy notes. Good minerality, and enough acidity to keep this fresh. Should drink well for at least 5 more yrs, maybe more. (2396 views)
Tasted by Caciolo on 8/19/2021: Excellent and still has a few years left (2149 views)
Tasted by Oldmanzin on 4/26/2021 & rated 96 points: A wine that is nothing short of exceptional in every way. Dark fruit, graphite, tilled soil are nicely complimented by the well integrated oak. Amazing depth and texture at age 20. This wine has the “X” factor that I seek. There is still plenty of life to age gracefully for another ten years. Great juice. (2729 views)
Tasted by Mr T on 4/21/2021: $64 very well spent. Wine has aged very nicely. Quick decant at dinner time with grilled sirloin pork chops and wine was good to go right from the start. Very much a ripe Bordeaux although not as earthy/tobacco in flavor. Really very nice and well balanced (2499 views)
Tasted by bravo.solares on 3/27/2021 & rated 93 points: This is drinking exceptionally well. Slow ox’d for 6 hours. Nose is superb - black fruits, tobacco, cedar box, and notes of almost blue cheese. Wine is more youthful than I would have thought, both visually and in the palate. Black currants, blackberries, tobacco, earthy notes. Good minerality, and enough acidity to keep this fresh. This should age further, and likely develop more tertiaries, over the next 5-8 yrs. Paired beautifully with steak frites. If only current Napa produced more wines like this (as opposed to over-extracted oak slushies), I’d be drinking more Napa Cabernet. (2399 views)
Tasted by Arcturus on 3/20/2021 & rated 94 points: 2001 Leoville Las Cases 91. Dusty gravel clay and forest floor on the nose, mid palette dry dark fruit, medium-weight, dry but smooth finish. I wouldn't say this was corked but it seemed a little off.

2001 Beringer Reserve 94. Tertiary notes of black berry fruit, dried flowers, forest floor nice bouquet. The palate is well refined great finish. (2165 views)
Tasted by beatles on 1/27/2021 & rated 89 points: Served vis-avis the Solaia 20001, this did not make the cut; seemed age, very dark notes og smoke, chocolate, a heavy hitter - there is quality here, certainly, just lacking a bit of freshness.

Tasted by mclanew on 1/9/2021 & rated 94 points: Slow ox three hours. Attractive nose of blackberry, tobacco and brambles. The wine is full bodied, still fairly youthful, fleshy and layered. Black currant, blackberries, tobacco weed, earth and iron come through on the palate rolling into a long finish. This wine has consistently delivered for me and this bottle was no exception. I expect this wine will continue to age gracefully for 15 to 20 years (2014 views)
Tasted by Hppr Cellar on 12/26/2020 & rated 90 points: A bit past its prime. Maybe better back in 2016 (2098 views)
Tasted by BuckeyeBenS on 11/27/2020 & rated 95 points: Wow. Just stunning. Laid this down in my cellar 15 years ago and what a wonderful bottle it turned out to be. Paired with a cheese board. Excellent balance and singing with layers of flavor. It is beautiful. There is still plenty of life in the bottle, but I don't think there is any benefit to aging it further. Lots of sediment forming. Drink or hold, but I vote for enjoying it now while it is at its best! (2103 views)
Tasted by BArice on 11/22/2020 & rated 94 points: Absolutely fantastic. Wine needed a full 2.5hr decant before the acid and tannins softened, but it really showed exceptionally well after that. (2093 views)
Tasted by davergny on 10/25/2020 flawed bottle: Sadly my last bottle. All others were stellar but this was mildly corked. (2080 views)

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
