Tasted by wtianseter on 2/1/2024 & rated 92 points: This Syrah was really nice and tasty. Well integrated flavors of dark fruits, that have developed more depth than when it was new. It paid off to keep this bottle around for 18 years. (100 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 9/23/2019 & rated 89 points: Still big fruit and big round mouth. The rest I've said before. (859 views)
Tasted by Ecoenophile on 11/8/2016 & rated 89 points: Smooth, rich and solid... well integrated with a little residual tartness and tannins. Alas, final bottle. Enjoyed this very good QPR CA Syrah. (1618 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 1/13/2016: No official rating -- dont want to bias at this point. 89. wine is drinking well and still showing fruit and complexity. More years to come (1841 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 9/17/2015 & rated 88 points: Big fruit of black berries. This went wonderfully with spicy salsa. The finish was big long and fruity with a final moderate and smooth tannin (1974 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 1/18/2015 & rated 89 points: Todays bottle was simply a wonderful smooth and luscious mouth with layered fruits and moderate lingering tannin (2349 views)
Tasted by Shrages on 10/26/2014 & rated 93 points: Outstanding. And at peak or a year or two away. Color of a great Bordeaux from a warm vintage. Blackberry, cool mint, and freshly showered armpit of a beautiful woman on the nose. Fine but not yet fully resolved tannins in the mid-palate, along with front-of-tongue berries and a sensation of richness and depth. Doesn't finish with great length but rather with a satisfying bite. Perfection incarnate with a grilled rib-eye in front of the TV during a World Series victory. (2075 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 5/16/2014 & rated 91 points: This is the fourth bottle I've had and this one showed nicely. There is lots of Dark berry fruits with blackberry being the most prevalent, and immediately a nice medium oak hits to add the first layer; then the Syrah bite hits but it is smooth, supple but quite subtle. The finish is primarily a fruity tannin that has a very smooth mouth feel. This wine is beginning to come into its own. (1796 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 5/7/2014 & rated 91 points: Still bombastic, still loaded with black fruit, drinking fantastically right now, a cut above the '05s. (1670 views)
Tasted by Ecoenophile on 3/23/2014 & rated 90 points: Holding up well. Deep purple color. Nose with blueberry, blackberry, and current fruit flavors with a hint of clove and floral notes. Well integrated flavors with an elegant finish. Little residual tannins and a little residual acidity helps keep it bright through the smooth finsh. Great QPR at $22... sorry only one more in the cellar. (1653 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 1/26/2014 & rated 88 points: Big fruit but a bit too much bite on the back palate in this bottle. Some tastes are super and others not so much. Still even those that are less are still nice. (1525 views)
Tasted by jovino on 9/11/2013 & rated 92 points: Had this many times and tonight was probably on the high side score-wise. It has been 90+ each time. Full syrah, but still has plenty going on. You won't confuse it with a rhone, but it is not a fruit bomb. Just a really great wine and an unbelievable value at the wineaccess price. I'm looking forward to it coming back in any vintage. (1929 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 5/26/2013 & rated 87 points: This bottle was big on fruit and just a bit acidic tasting which caused me to give it a lower rating than last time. The wine is smooth and heavy dark fruits with a bright acidic finish with supple tannin (1806 views)
Tasted by Ecoenophile on 4/25/2013 & rated 89 points: Ink purple, slightly violets and purple fruits on the nose. Full fruyit flavor with a touch of sour cherry on the finish. No tannins. Solid wine at the discounted $22 price point. (1982 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 3/5/2013: The last of my bottles purchased on release. Even better than previous bottles, this is very squarely in its prime drinking window. With 45 minutes of aeration in decanter, this was highly enjoyable over the following 90 minutes, full of attractive spice, dark fruits and rich earth tones. Solid cut gives a rewarding lift.  Tasted by wtianseter on 2/26/2013 & rated 89 points: The wine is a deep dark red with bluish notes. The nose is a spicy red fruit with a touch of oak. The wine is big on fruit and it immediately hits with a dry tannin and light oak. The initial glass was tight and a bit bitter (typical young Syrah); by glass 3 the wine had lost all bitterness and was a luscious Syrah with super nice dryness and mellow tannin and oak. This wine needs to be decanted for at least a half hour to allow it to develop and will likely live and grow nicely in bottle for 3 or four more years! (1538 views)
Tasted by jkopas on 1/8/2013 & rated 90 points: Oaky but good (1790 views)
Tasted by JonGray on 1/4/2013 & rated 92 points: Smokey cherry tanic burst on finish... From Wine Access Wine Club. Want more! (1618 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 10/31/2012 & rated 91 points: A heavy Syrah - not a bad thing. If you are looking for a bombastic rendition, this is your bottle. Every time I open an '06 I think this offering is getting better. Little bit firmer tannins this time; note, heavy sediment in bottle. (2005 views)
Tasted by RDHudak on 9/11/2012 & rated 92 points: Tons going on. A definite Rhone profile with red fruit, mineral, earth and spice. More Old World than a bomb. Medium finish with more of the same. I rated this a 87-88 at first, but this exploded with a short decant. Very good. Seemed to fall off somewhat after an hour or two. 91-92 (2244 views)
Tasted by Xfactor on 7/25/2012 & rated 90 points: Reddish-purple hue. Ripe red plum and boysenberry bouquet. Brambly fruit persists braced with new-growth white oak and smokehouse game. A long finish heightened with black vanilla pod, nutmeg, and worn leather. SO balanced throughout - seamless integration all around. Not a fireworks or stunner bottling, but a serious performer, especially at this price point. 90/B = 50/5/11/8/8/8 (2259 views)
Tasted by handlera on 7/9/2012 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured. Ruby red. Classic syrah taste (at least for old world style). Not jammy. A lot of cherry. (2024 views)
Tasted by Ecoenophile on 7/2/2012 & rated 89 points: Very nice. Elegant, rich, smooth. Nice finish, balance of red and black fruit. Finished on the second day... but it lost a bit of it's brightness. (2020 views)
Tasted by RDHudak on 2/29/2012 & rated 91 points: Color: Deep ruby. Nose: Tight at first, this benefited greatly from a decant of an hour or more. Red fruit, cotton candy, plumb and some alcohol. Palate: Spice, dark and red fruits, scorched earth with integrated tannins and a lip smacking acidity. Medium-full body. Finish: Some oak, tannins and more delicious fruit and acid with a whisper of smoked meat right at the end. Medium+ in length. This was drinking quite well on day 3, so this bodes well for its future. An absolute re-buy and a delicious Syrah. 91+ (2237 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
