Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.5 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 74 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by JAKE1 on 1/5/2020 & rated 92 points: This wine is drinking as well I would expect for a 12 year old constructed chardonnay. It has a lot of depth. Nice viscosity on the tongue. It paired well with chicken picatta and mashed potatoes. The lemon of the dish was complementary. Yellow-honey color and served at 50 degrees made a nice experience. I did not find it too oaky but I got those forward vanilla notes others have noted and then some pear and pineapple notes. Still perfectly balanced at this juncture without any flatness. It still has adequate acidity if you wanted to cellar longer, but would not go to much longer. I have one bottle left. Should have bought more. Actually a gift (1052 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 5/11/2019 & rated 93 points: Pop and pour - consistent with previous tasting notes, and delicious from start to finish. If this bottle is indicative, no need to rush to open; this has plenty of life left. (1026 views)
Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 8/5/2017 flawed bottle: Premoxed (1731 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 2/16/2017 & rated 90 points: Golden yellow. A little too heavily oaked when cold and or chilled, better balance and flavor as it came to cellar temperature. Off bottle ?
Golden Delicious Apple, but still too much oak and vanilla in this bottle. (2022 views)
Tasted by dkstar1 on 9/15/2016: Out of magnum. Huge wine and too oaky. Vanilla bomb. Had a short window of "pleasantness" but as it got air, it burned up. I don't think I'd buy another one of these. Not my jam. (2372 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 8/28/2016 & rated 88 points: Very good Calif Chard. They reeled back the oak enough that it was tolerable. A big and burly white wine. (1600 views)
Tasted by nortonnose on 11/22/2015 & rated 93 points: I would love to find this at auction for $28.47 :)

Really delightful. Nicely balanced, mouthwatering fruit, good acidity, long finish. Highly recommended, especially from a Burgundy lover! (2150 views)
Tasted by MJTed on 9/5/2015: Has turned to a golden honey color and palate has aged a bt. Still a rich, wonderful wine. Zesty tropical notes + layers of marmalade and nuttiness (almonds). Flawless. LAst bottle for me but will go several years. (1679 views)
Tasted by dutradan@msn.com on 6/20/2015 & rated 94 points: layers of rich smooth deliciousness. Drink up! (1521 views)
Tasted by pdemaio on 4/23/2015 & rated 93 points: Huge and beautiful. (1335 views)
Tasted by jshufelt on 2/22/2015 & rated 93 points: Most of my previous tasting note applies to this bottle, but this one is just better across the board; more balance, more fruit, more minerality, and any rough edges have been smoothed out. A quite nice chardonnay. (1442 views)
Tasted by pjhr on 1/3/2015 & rated 94 points: Simply delicious chard! Wonderful tropical fruit aromas with layers of complexity on the palate and long finish with lovely acidity. (1254 views)
Tasted by sbbulldog on 10/3/2014 & rated 90 points: Nice. (1607 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 10/3/2014 & rated 95 points: Aromas of lemon meringue, vanilla, mineral and sea salt on the nose. Very expressive and captivating nose on this. A full throttle chardonnay, this has flavors of marshmallow, banana, mango, butterscotch and a touch of minerality. Love the Ritchie Vineyard! A excellent Chardonnay and exquisitely balanced. (1371 views)
Tasted by PourMeSomeMore on 7/28/2014 & rated 94 points: Delicious rich but balanced napa chard with juicy acidity. Long finish. Unfortunately last bottle. (1648 views)
Tasted by mazik on 6/7/2014 & rated 94 points: Brought to Dovetail and served as an aperitif and with the first course. Closest thing to a Corton-Charlemagne I've had in recent memory, with amazing bouquet, the peach/pear fruit in perfect balance with the caramel/oak, and a magnificent burnt cashew finish. (1541 views)
Tasted by LSussman on 4/15/2014 & rated 90 points: better the second day (1686 views)
Tasted by Rollerball on 3/29/2014 & rated 86 points: Inaugural Sanger Wine Challenge: Chateauneuf du Papes (Blind Tasting) (Chez Sangers): Ripe with saltwater taffy, oakey, and complex. I can't say I really enjoyed it but it sure is a fascinating mix of creamy tropical flavors including the smokey ocean water itself. (1860 views)
Tasted by drrobvino on 3/9/2014 & rated 91 points: Opened last night. Had a few glasses, re-corked in the fridge, and TN from today.
Light straw in color, fading to colorless at the rim.
The nose of this 6 yr old Cali Chard is developing, showing med+ intensity aromas of cinnamon and hazelnut from the prominent oak; red apple, lime, and mango as well, with a limestone component noted in the upper register.
The palate reveals a dry wine, full in body and alcohol (listed at 14.4% abv). Te flavors are med+ intensity pineapple and mango, with a med intensity nuttiness and spice that is evident from the oak. The acidity is med, the finish is med+, echoing the flavors from the palate, carrying on a nice spiciness.
This is a very good quality wine, nice complexity, and quite well balanced for a big, bold California Chardonnay. It is at its apex and drinking beautifully now, and although it will not likely further improve with bottle age, it should continue to drink nicely through 2018 or so. (1402 views)
Tasted by MJTed on 3/1/2014 & rated 95 points: Brilliant Chardonnay. Powerful but elegant fruit with a long and complex finish. These designates always deliver and Chloe is my favorite for fruit purity. (1205 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 2/12/2014 & rated 97 points: Straw colored. Fresh cut apples, pear and pineapple on the nose. Great balance of fruit, acid and oak. Terrific from opening to the last glass. I love all their offerings. Consistent quality from vintage to vinetage . Long finish. (1275 views)
Tasted by VinoDiver on 2/9/2014 & rated 90 points: Creamy, with nice fruit, and a hint of sweetness. Not a lot of acidity to start but a bit more came through with some air. Deep golden color that has aged well. (989 views)
Tasted by KeithAkers on 7/26/2013 & rated 86 points: A Friday Afternoon at Domaine (Domaine Wine Storage, Chicago IL): Nose: The nose is stereotypical with rich and buttery tones of creams, marmalade, vanilla beans, oranges, oak, and some custard tones. There is good depth to this, but the oak is a bit on the dominant side.

Taste: Full bodied with lower acidity. The palate isn't flabby so much as it's very rich and oak dominated with tones of vanilla, creams, oranges, custard, and oak.

Overall: This held the style well, but the oak and oak influences were a bit over dominant. This is a big chard and it needs to be drunk sooner rather than later. (2526 views)
Tasted by tooch on 7/26/2013 & rated 85 points: Another Friday Afternoon @ Domaine (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): Had more balance and elegance than other DuMOL Chards I've had, but the ever present butter and smoke are pretty intense. You into wood? (2374 views)
Tasted by Pinot Evil on 6/2/2013 & rated 91 points: Not an over oaked butter bomb, nice honeysuckle and forest notes. (1941 views)

2008 DuMOL Chardonnay Chloe

Winery's notes - Pale yellow straw color; explosive aromas of baked apple, pear tart, meyer lemon and bright minerals framed by nutmeg, clove and beeswax notes. These aromas cascade onto the palate with overt mouth filling honeyed richness that always maintains focus and mineral precision. Signs of a broad oatmealy texture begin to develop before penetrating acidity leads to a fresh saline finish with a lick of sweet lime. Serve at no cooler than 55 degrees and drink between 2011 and 2016.

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
