Tasted by retired_and_roving on 1/27/2018 & rated 85 points: PnP which was definitely a mistake, this baby needs either 5 more years of sleep or a long time in the decanter. It was spooled up tight as a drum and the wall of tannins hit me in the face. I did not spend a ton of time with this as it was already later in the evening, and the palate was fatigued. But at this point dark fruit and gum sucking tannin. I tasted this about five years ago when it was much younger and had a different experience - so perhaps bottle variation or it is just in a dumb phase. If you have them let them rest or decant vigorously. (1945 views)
Tasted by dontime on 3/14/2014: Classic Cabernet flavors - dark berries, some smoke and mint. Great mouth feel. Smooth finish with integrated tannins. If scoring 91-93. (5611 views)
Tasted by RudigerVT on 4/24/2013 & rated 93 points: Seems like a 1990's style. Not that it's a bad thing. If you want a big, extroverted Napa cab, then this is a heck of a deal. (6684 views)
Tasted by J2K on 10/21/2012: This wine gets better everytime I drink it. With some time to breathe, total intense rich cab flavors. well balanced and long lingering finish. Outstanding wine! Still have one left, at the PA sale price of $35, still have one left but wish I would have bought more. (6896 views)
Tasted by Uglypinga on 10/5/2012 & rated 89 points: Blind. Green pepper and beef on the nose. The palate has some cherries and chocolate. Smooth until the finish, which is a bit bitter. (6972 views)
Tasted by AngryPrez on 9/14/2012 & rated 92 points: Beautiful, elegant wine - initial nose of bandaid, decanted over an hour and then other aromas began to emerge - some spice/mint - amazing legs on the side of the glass - silky smooth, almost imperceptible tannins - slightly tart/acidic tone - black cherry - very long finish - very happy to have picked up a case at the PLCB sale price.  Tasted by SonnyJay on 8/3/2012: Oh man, this is good. I let it bottle decant for an hour or so. Very bold aroma with plum dominating. Plums and blackberries on the palate with a long finish. Tannins were balanced but should improve with time. I'm excited to see this improve over time...glad I have a couple of bottles left but wish I had more. (2809 views)
Tasted by Napacablover on 1/28/2012 & rated 96 points: I tasted the 2006 Haber Family Diamond Mtn. along side the 2007 over dinner - also see my tasting note for the 2007 bottle. Compared to the 2007, the 2006 has more of a black cherry nose that is more complex. It still has lots of bold tannins that indicate several more years of life - in fact I don't think this wine has hit its peak yet. The 2006 will benefit from decanting - we didn't that night, but the wine definitely opened up in the glass over the hour that we enjoyed it. I had the wine with lamb chops and they made a great combination.

While I initially liked the 2007 best when I first tasted them at the Haber's house last year, I've since grown to appreciate the 2006 even more - definitely one of my favorite wines ever. If fact, I liked it so much that I tracked down 6 more bottles to add to my cellar. This wine is getting hard to find now, but I'd recommend buying some if you can find it. (2716 views)
Tasted by Napacablover on 8/31/2011 & rated 97 points: I enjoyed a bottle of the Haber Family Diamond Mtn Cab at Sparks Steakhouse in Manhattan last night. I recently discovered this wine on my last visit to Napa and was blown away by the quality, so I went to Sparks because they are the only restaurant in Midtown with Haber Family on the wine list. I was anxious to see if it would be as good as I remembered from the winery and I found that it was even better! The nose was huge with lots of rich cherry fruit. And the taste was outstanding with layers and layers of bright fruit and very balanced tannins. The finish went on for a long time. This wine is drinking great now but easily has 10 more years left in it. And I actually liked the 2007 vintage even better than the 2006 when I tasted them side-by-side at the winery. I'm heading back there again soon and I'm looking forward to tasting the 2008's. Try this wine if you get a chance - you won't be disappointed. (2954 views)
Tasted by NJ BIG CHRIS on 6/5/2011 & rated 92 points: Really good Cab. Big bold fruit. Ive had other $30-$40 diamond mountain cabs that tasted the same however and the price tag doesn't warrant the bother for me at $80. (2980 views)
Tasted by iwadasn on 4/18/2011 & rated 92 points: A serious red, says my better half. Full bodied, fruity, pungent. Would stack up nicely with cheeses and meats. Hints of charcoal and mint. Would expect it to age well and expand in depth with time. (3057 views)
Tasted by EnjoyinglifeTX on 1/24/2011 & rated 95 points: I began to evaluate this wine only after 10-15 minutes of being opened. The wine is a beautiful rich dark ruby color in the glass. The nose is is amazing and smelling it is just as enjoyable as drinking it. It seduces you into the glass with dark plum and ripe blackberry fruit aromas in the beginning with spice notes of cinnamon and nutmeg evolving into ripe figs, cedar box, and Don Juan Roses and finally to black licorice and suede. The palate is complex as well initially presenting with smooth but intense fruit flavors of black plum, cassis, and ripe blackberries, medium toasty oak, black tea and green peppercorn spice with crushed limestone, and unsweetened dark chocolate evolving to mild dill flavors. It has moderate plus firm tannis with well balanced acidity resulting in a very silky smooth and sexy mouth feel. The finish lasted in excess 90 seconds. I really enjoy smelling this wine just as much as drinking it and consider a huge value at the current price point as it compares to wines with a significantly higher price point. This wine should age beautifully. (3687 views)
Tasted by jojay29 on 9/8/2010 & rated 95 points: I tasted this initial vintage in the barrel and then from the bottle in late 2009 and several times this summer. It is an amazing wine, full of rich mountain fruit and tannins that will enable it to age beautifully over the next ten years or longer. However, it is drinking extremely well right now after opening for 15-20 minutes. The wine is silky with dark fruit flavors - black cherry, plum and blackberry. The wine goes through subtle changes in the glass and gets even better. Kudos to Sue-Marie and Ron Haber and winemaker Tim Milos!! (3859 views)

(Haber Family Diamond Mountain Cabernet Sauvignon) #1; COLOR-dark; NOSE-oh man, this smells good; big nose; big red fruit, but high end salty minerality; a little fruit roll-up candied fruit; I'm a little worried about the Oak; PALATE-the first thing I notice is this is super silky; second, it reminds me of cult CA wine from the 1999-2002 era (really big wines with big 95 point Parker scores; really smooth and really delicious); If you like that style, you will love this; this is very, very good; it's extremely well made; it's extremely delicious; it's a big, bombastic California Cab and does what it does really well; GV-93+  93+ points

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
