Community Tasting Notes (average 91.2 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 69 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by ylkim30 on 4/20/2024: Huet-A-Thon (Bay Area Edition): I get a little sherry on the nose, but it blows off. On the palate, I’m reminded of orange marmalade, a combination of sweet and citric sourness with a hint of pleasing bitterness on the finish. Texturally, rounder and softer than the ‘02 and ‘96. This may be in a wormhole hurtling towards a better place, but it is rather pleasurable right now. (460 views)
Tasted by Wine Canuck on 3/24/2024 & rated 93 points: This pours light gold in the glass. Great color considering some age here. The nose unfurls nicely over the course of a few hours to show green apple, white flowers, honey, crushed rock, dried lemon peel, and fresh white mushroom. The palate enters on honey drizzled fresh green apple with medium plus, focused acid. The finish lingers nicely replaying stony mineral and whisps of green apple and floral honey. (795 views)
Tasted by guitarguy on 10/30/2023 & rated 86 points: With some sugar but despite good storage it seemed to be oxidizing. I think it’s time to test if you have bottles, or drink up. I will be. Well integrated sugars, petrol and caramelized, oxidized notes. Got better with a bit of air. (1009 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 6/23/2023: Deep yellow/light golden. A little honey and burnt sugar. Full, glycerine texture. Crystalline, pure quince and citrus. Off dry entry but excellent acidity leads to a drier finish. No oxidation. Mature but should stay at this level for some years. (1775 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 4/4/2023: Medium yellow. Flowers and yellow fruit. Pleasing medium+ weight with some glycerine but not as dense as Chenin can be. Off dry, succulent pear fruit, excellent acidity, a bit of soil and grapefruit on the finish. Outstanding and completely fresh. (1718 views)
Tasted by aagrawal on 12/7/2022 & rated 92 points: Coravin. Deep golden color, appropriate for its age; high intensity aromatics, intensely honeyed, quince, orchard apples; palate is medium bodied but morphs throughout, initially a bit thicker and showing more sweetness but by the midpalate the sweetness almost disappears and it shows much more minerality, quince, balanced 13.5% alcohol, lovely persistence, some spice with some ginger and savory notes; finish is medium-long. This is exactly as I would expect at this age, lovely demi-sec Vouvray showing a bit of maturity but honestly mostly still youthful but balanced. 92+ (1745 views)
Tasted by MLipton on 9/30/2022: Quite advanced and verging into cider territory: color was dark amber with brownish hints, there was a hint of cider in the nose, but the wine still had its zip and was nearly dry. Hopefully, this was just a bad bottle... (1691 views)
Tasted by winchester-xi on 7/7/2022: Very nice bottle that had a mild oxidative note in the background, and plenty f citrus pith , ginger, and honey in the foreground. (1646 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 5/15/2022 & rated 91 points: Honey and citrus with stony elements. The fruit is rich. I find it better balanced as 3 years ago. (1591 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 2/26/2022 flawed bottle: Advanced. Dark yellow color with oxidative notes. Darn. (1709 views)
Tasted by Highlander on 8/29/2021: We all enjoyed this, but two very different bottles, which might account for the mixed comments I have read. Bottle one, lighter color, more fruit centric, very nice. Bottle two, much more golden color, but oddly this bottle was slightly sweeter. This leads me to believe it was not an aging/corkage issue but perhaps just plain variation between bottles. We enjoyed both, but I preferred the first. Not sure what to do with my drinking window, but I am moving this up to a two year window from here. (2101 views)
Tasted by winchester-xi on 6/30/2021: Delicious bottle that was appreciated by all and went very quickly, but which also seemed quite mature for its age. I continue to be flummoxed by 2010 Huet. (2234 views)
Tasted by MattHo on 6/11/2021 & rated 92 points: Lovely bottle, drinking well. Deep golden colour; honey and fruit aromas. Good crisp acidity. Not as nuanced or sublime as some Huet Demi Secs and drinking by itself I was on verge of being underwhelmed. Good, but not special.

But it really came to life when matched with food - charcuterie, cheese, fruit. In particular it sang when paired with a plate of Parma ham, fresh figs, feta cheese all drizzled with maple syrup. Suddenly in a different league, almost a different wine.

So scoring would be 88-89 by itself, but 92-93 with the right food.

Some have commented they are picking up oxidative notes, and wine getting tired. None of that with this bottle - very crisp and pure, everything in place to continue to mature well. (A good thing as I’ve a lot more of these stashed away after seeing them on offer at the Wine Society a couple of years ago…) (1882 views)
Tasted by christyler on 3/9/2021: Golden and advanced. Still has nice acidity but I didn't enjoy as much as I had hoped. (2427 views)
Tasted by LARich on 1/15/2021 & rated 92 points: Sweet but not overly syrupy. (2254 views)
Tasted by angryphoton on 9/20/2020 & rated 87 points: a bit tired. (2362 views)
Tasted by winchester-xi on 8/22/2020: There is an oxidative note that, while it doesn’t dominate, can’t be completely ignored. There result is that the wine seems simultaneously a bit too old and a bit too young.

I have not had good luck with 2010 Huets, and plan to open my remaining bottles (of which, unfortunately, there are more than a couple) over the next year or so. (2021 views)
Tasted by dclaggett on 5/10/2020 & rated 94 points: Yellow gold color. Nose was more herbal, vegetal with citrus and tropical fruit. Med plus in mouth, long finish. Grapefruit, honey, lemonade, marzipan, cream cheese brioche. Off dry on palate but it finishes dry. Plenty of acidic zip, tannin and juicy goodness to go several more years. (2392 views)
Tasted by Richard P Howden on 3/15/2020 & rated 92 points: This bottle was really good - great earthy sweetness, balance and length. (2322 views)
Tasted by brooklynguy on 12/31/2019: More advanced than it should be. Some pleasing aromas still, but tired and spread out. On the palate too. Hopefully, a bottle issue. (3230 views)
Tasted by fingers on 12/10/2019 & rated 93 points: Continues to perform beautifully and still on the way up, me thinks.
I paired this with a good old filet mignon with garlic-mashed potatoes and broccoli and it was fantastic. No need for the tannins, etc. of a red wine because there's so much depth to this demi-sec and I highly recommend trying this type of pairing. Quite enlightening.
Light gold color with a bright reflection and clear body.
Medium to profound nose of apricot and orange rind, apple and pear, a hint of wet rocks. Great balance on the palate where it never feels heavy or dominated by any one element. As others have said, "seamless". 5+12+17+9= 93 (3066 views)
Tasted by cannym on 6/12/2019 & rated 91 points: Golden. worked really well with food. Bit of honey, quince, ripe pear. Some white blossoms. Fair acidity, good length. Not over sweet. Lovely texture in the mouth. (2706 views)
Tasted by MJReb on 4/14/2019 & rated 90 points: Honey and lemon, quite high on sugar, but well balanced by its acidity, good density. Can go on for years. (2588 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 3/23/2019: Popped and poured. These are such good wines. There was just a hint of sweetness complimented by notes of orange rind. The acidity is light and keeps the wine well balanced. The wine is in a great spot right now and no doubt it will age gracefully for many, many, years to come. (2649 views)
Tasted by fingers on 3/15/2019 & rated 92 points: This is still a lovely drink and no sign of slowing down. Maybe a tad on the ripe side as it packs a pretty high abv punch, but this bottle showed even a little better than my last, some two years ago. 5+12+17+8= 92 (2637 views)
