Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 93.8 pts. and median of 94 pts. in 43 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Collector1855 on 9/12/2022 & rated 99 points: 200 Burgundy Grand Crus from vintage 2000, 4-day blind tasting (Singapore): Fresh, structured rich, yet with appropriate dry extract. Lemon curd and pop corn finish, second favorite of group, also in the as good as it gets category. (2710 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 7/29/2022 & rated 96 points: Best bottle yet - precise, fresh and beautiful intensity. Surprisingly little oxidative evolution. Long life ahead. (716 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 11/20/2021 & rated 94 points: JK's 50th Birthday: Magnum. Clear, rich, very classic. 94 (1491 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 3/20/2021 & rated 96 points: Powerful and early in development - expressive but linear - may need more time (1265 views)
Tasted by grapenomad on 8/31/2020 & rated 98 points: Is this even real life? The moment I poured this I didn't really know what to expect judging by the deep golden yellow in the glass. I thought "okay, this might be over the peak already". But you know what they say - assumptions are the mother of all fuckups. To start with the nose first - loads of oak (definitely needs decanting) with the ripe tropical fruit laying underneath. The palate is full-on creamy and broad, but with a superbly linear string of acid that carries the whole wine to another level. It makes it tastes like a 5-year-old Chardonnay, not one that's two decades old. Long finish with a note of banana that I found really appealing. Montrachet doesn't get better than this and rarely does any Chardonnay for that matter. (1776 views)
Tasted by Paul S on 9/16/2019 & rated 94 points: TNs: Female Burgundy Winemakers Dinner (Yan, National Gallery, Singapore): A wonderful wine. This had such a nice nose to it, with wafts of white fruit, buttery cream and gentle florals, underlined with by a little streak of minerality. Lovely, and speaking so eloquently of Montrachet too. The palate was drinking beautifully at this point of its evolution, with rich apple flavours pierced with juicy lemons, a spine of stony minerality and nice hints of earthiness, and then just an edge of roasted almonds leading into a beautiful creamy finish. Full, powerful, and mouthfilling, yet so elegantly balanced and eminently drinkable. This was yummy and drinking absolutely on point. (783 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 6/2/2019 & rated 96 points: It seems early on a long way to evolve - very mineraly with good depth (1363 views)
Tasted by acyso on 4/17/2019 & rated 98 points: Dinner at Jade Court (Chicago, IL): At peak. This is a stunning bottle of chardonnay, with unparalleled richness and power. It is what Montrachet ought to be -- raw power, muscular presence, and long finish. There's a mild bit of oak still on the nose, but it is evenly matched by some nutty notes of aged chardonnay and slight whiff of smoky reduction. The palate is absolutely mind-boggling in its sheer concentration though. Lots of secondary characteristics, including a nutty quality (not premox) that gives this an almost chewy texture. Expectations were high here, but they were exceeded. (2339 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 4/2/2019 & rated 89 points: From magnum. Initially modest depth, weight and spice. Hints of oxidation with air time as well as a drying finish. 89- (1031 views)
Tasted by Ms. Bubblehead on 3/17/2018 & rated 97 points: 2000 Joseph Drouhin Montrachet: Such a beautiful bottle of wine. Yellow fruits, slightly tropical, a bit of smoky/flint & mineral nose. On palate, crisp acidity, good weight/ structure, peach cream/ modest fatness with good balance. Excellent wine and still can age for another 10+ years. Some background about this plot: Marquis de Laguiche Montrachet is a 2.06 hectares property, the largest plot within Le Montrachet. The vineyard is all located on the Puligny side, just below the Chevalier Montrachet plot. The Drouhin family has exclusive control since 1947. (1701 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 3/12/2018 & rated 95 points: Fantastic drouhin montrachet. Nose bursts out with coconut, honey, and ripe yellow fruit. The palate is delicate, intense and elegant with the montrachet layer and intensity. Very complex. This is drinking so beautifully now. Superb montrachet. 95+ (1650 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 4/5/2017 & rated 94 points: Montrachet Dinner: 10 Vintages of Ramonet and Marquis de Laguiche, 1983-2002 (Oceana - New York NY): Tropical and very rich, like many of the other vintages of this wine tonight, and once again with the structure and energy to retain very good harmony. Good life ahead here. (2226 views)
Tasted by clayfu on 2/19/2017: Rain storms and burgundy (and rhone): A story of Favre's birthday in Los Angeles. (N/Naka): well balanced if not a bit too round, wish it had more acidity on the wine, the impact of the vintage. (2497 views)
Tasted by rnellans on 2/18/2017 & rated 94 points: Very elegant wine with great balance. Citrus and some honeysuckle. Nice depth and finish. (1589 views)
Tasted by steinersing on 4/2/2016 & rated 96 points: great precision and length, minerals, not a hint even of oxidation. well done. (1987 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 6/26/2015: Served blind - really superb wine, well balanced, demands concentration. One of my 2-3 favorites in the tasting. (2196 views)
Tasted by Blauweiss on 6/9/2015 & rated 93 points: Ripe red apples, oak, vanilla, lemonjuice on the nose. Palate is full bodied, integrated fruit, wet stone with good acidity and impeckable length, great wine! (1628 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 3/20/2015: "Meal in a bottle" style Montrachet that's hardly begun to unwind. Interesting to taste, but it begs for another 10-15 years. (1686 views)
Tasted by Gabbby on 2/26/2015 & rated 93 points: Mineral, fresh, flowers on the nose. Very elegance in style with wonderful length and complexity. It just requires a little more aging time. (1663 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 2/25/2015 & rated 95 points: This wine needs time in the glass to evolve. It did not taste like a montrachet to me when it was first poured. But it evolved really nicely with time as the butter, honey, sugarcane and popcorn started to emerge. The wine has high acidity and minerals. It's still very young..a super elegant montrachet that was not made in a powerful style..typical Drouhin Montrachet according to my friends. Absolutely amazing! (1717 views)
Tasted by Alex G. on 12/12/2014: Spot on, at peak, delightful fruit and aromas. (513 views)
Tasted by redders on 11/29/2012 & rated 93 points: Brittannia Group (Hix Mayfair): pale gold. Very pure classy nose, very correct, lacy effortless. Powerful, honey, butterand richness. Fine but lacked a little excitement. No decant and those with some left said it developed considerably over time in the glass. (2762 views)
Tasted by MatthewF on 7/12/2012: Charlie Trotter's Farewell Dinner with Montrachet, Brulees and Cros Parantoux (Charlie Trotter's, Chicago IL): Popped and poured alongside the 1999 vintage. Ripe, lush yellow citrus and orchard fruit aromatics and palate. Crushed stone and floral notes too. Very fresh and vibrant with great acidity. Wonderful intensity and concentration with a lengthy, powerful finish. A great Montrachet. (2879 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 7/12/2012 & rated 94 points: Another Final Dinner at Charlie Trotter's with "Guests" Henri Jayer, Meo-Camuzet and Rouget (Charlie Trotter's - Chicago IL): Tasted alongside its 1999 counterpart (oxidized) and Jadot 1999 Montrachet (wonderful). Lots of spice aromas with fresh orchard fruit. Similar apple and pear flavors on palate with lots of acidity and minerality, with Montrachet power really just emerging on the finish. A great expression of the vintage. (3300 views)
Tasted by KenK on 7/12/2012 & rated 92 points: Charlie Trotter's Goodbye with Jayer, Meo, and Rouget: Pretty floral nose nose with stony quartz minerals. Great purity.
Great density, yet light on feet, Wonderful depth of flavor. Long and delicate. Chewy finish.
Quite classy, just a tad simpler fruit. (3149 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio
