Tasted by Vinnut on 1/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Dark reddish garnet in color with slight clearing at the edges. Full, fragrant & attractive nose of ripe red fruit aromas of cherries, blueberries & plums with overtones of earthy/dusty & floral notes, tar, spices, tobacco, leather, minerals, herbs a hint of cedar. Full bodied with a very good concentration of well balanced & smooth textured, ripe red fruit flavors of cherries, cranberries & plums with spices, dried herbs, minerals & a slight hint of oak. Lingering smooth finish. Drinks quite well with decanting & airing. At 24 years of age, it is at or close to its peak of development although it should continue hold here for a while. However, I wouldn't anticipate any further development. Fill was in lower neck; cork was stained 1/3 but otherwise intact upon opening. (855 views)
Tasted by DesMarteau on 5/19/2021 & rated 92 points: dark in color...nothing on the nose when upon opening after 40 mins a bit of a cherry cola nose. Dusty cherries....fruit coming alive...cherry, tar, tart, spice. nice....doing well. a little hot and disjointed. (1612 views)
Tasted by shaferguy91 on 3/9/2021 & rated 88 points: Over the Hill (1633 views)
Tasted by dlduchon on 3/30/2020 & rated 89 points: Holding up, but at the limit. I would not decant. Lost it fruit and with air got a bit stewed, still some tannin on the finsh. (1921 views)
Tasted by viking92067 on 8/31/2019 & rated 91 points: I think the review by HILZI LIKES THIS WINE is spot on but I will give a score.
Nice wine, but fruit lacking. Drink up. (2172 views)
Tasted by GeorgeSW on 5/6/2019 & rated 91 points: Still good, I felt it still has life, (1843 views)
Tasted by ricknat1 on 6/22/2018: very nice, popped and poured, not exceptional but smooth and very drinkable (2193 views)
Tasted by Hilzi on 4/21/2018: I didn’t rate the wine, as it was a bit late ast it’s prime. I was still enjoyable with leather, eucalyptus and nice dark fruit. But the fruit has had vanished a bit, we aired it a bit and kept trying throughput it, so I am sure we had it at its best about 3 hours after opening the bottle.
So, everyone who still has a bottle of this cold bye great wine, drink up. (2097 views)
Tasted by SLLDAL on 12/17/2016 & rated 94 points: WOTN. Briefly decanted at restaurant. Balanced, smooth, plenty of finesse. Perfect complement for inspired Italian food. (3767 views)
Tasted by brubron on 7/10/2016: Had this last bottle of my 99s with roasted duck leg. It was terrific on all levels. Still a great, vibrant wine. Superb! Only wish I had gotten more. (3984 views)
Tasted by brubron on 11/17/2015: Had the second of three bottles i got at the winery. Still wonderful - at its peak perhaps. Terrific Brunello! (4648 views)
Tasted by Philippe_C on 10/13/2015 & rated 92 points: Tertiary nose of wild forest, mushrooms, leather... still high acidity, medium red berries fruit, forest floor, but lacking a bit of fruit... (4381 views)
Tasted by afu on 3/28/2015 & rated 93 points: What a pleasant surprise, still vibrant, plenty of energy (hate to use this Galloni descriptor) but it fits so well. This wine has plenty of life in it, among the most dark red fruit, think plum we've had in a Brunello in a long long time. I think this wine is now in its drinking prime. A long sweet finish was the perfect ending. Did not decant, basically pop and pour over a 2 hour dinner. Wish we had more. (4815 views)
Tasted by french16 on 11/28/2014: Needed some air and showed its best after a few days. Dark cherry, earth and spices. Balsamic notes. Full body but supported by great acidity. Fine tannins.
Really nice. (3470 views)
Tasted by Derek Darth Taster on 11/5/2014 & rated 95 points: Barolo (Vintage v.s. Maker) and others (Extra Space): Slow-oxed in bottle for about 2 hours and then poured into decanter for a short while before drinking. Tasted blind.
Appearance is clear, deep intensity, ruby colour. Legs.
Nose is clean, medium intensity, with aromas of toasted oak, earth, leather, red fruit. Developing.
On the palate, dry, high acidity, medium+ alcohol, medium+ tannins, full body. Medium+ flavour intensity, with flavours of red plums, dark red cherries, sweet licorice, slight leather and earth. Overall extremely well-balanced. Long finish.
Outstanding quality Brunello. 1999 is indeed a superb vintage with very well balanced Brunelli. This still feels like it could improve with further age. Any remaining bottles should be revisited in another 3-5 years. (3995 views)
Tasted by guitarkim on 10/9/2014 flawed bottle: Corked (1980 views)
Tasted by futronic on 6/6/2014 & rated 92 points: Poured down into the shoulder and slow-ox'd for the day. Deep ruby/garnet colour. Rich, beautiful nose of sottobosco, dried cherries, prunes, spice, and balsamico. Medium-full bodied with replays from nose. Tannins have resolved nicely and the wine's acidity gives it lift on the palate. Moderate-length finish, ~30-35s. Delicious. Drink now-2019. (2864 views)
Tasted by Milos on 3/20/2014 & rated 90 points: Forward nose of red wild cherry and forest notes; earthy notes and dusty fine tannins on the palate, traditional Brunello. Drinks well now but has many years ahead. (2642 views)
Tasted by englishman's claret on 1/11/2014 & rated 92 points: Needed some time in the decanter to really open out. Dense, chewy dark fruit, just a little rustic. Round. This would have been better with food. Good brunello. This has some life in it yet, but I wouldn't wait. (2987 views)
Tasted by Patrik H on 1/2/2014 & rated 92 points: Revisit after five years.
Brick colored
On the nose cedar, leather and earthy tones. But still very peaceful and harmonious.
On the palate, smooth tannins and well balanced acid. Fine fruit with a hint of stable and plum.

Drinking very well at the moment. (2866 views)
Tasted by Kevdog on 12/9/2013 & rated 92 points: Very nice, let open for an hour or so in bottle. Opened up nicely, good nose, good fruit, still good structure. With Pork tenderloin in Highlands. (2540 views)
Tasted by socidelvino on 10/29/2013 & rated 90 points: Solid tannins remaining great fruit long finish (2317 views)
Tasted by mdvino63 on 8/5/2013 & rated 90 points: Good, nothing earth-shattering. Solid and a little boring. Have preferred the Altero, at least in this vintage. (2495 views)
Tasted by blash on 5/1/2013 & rated 90 points: Solid brunello. Good balance with mild fruit and earthy flavors. Good finish. Probably won't get much better from here. (2695 views)
Tasted by Wino from Michigan on 4/5/2013 & rated 93 points: Amazing -- this was just perfect -- drink now -- everything you expect in a traditional Brunello. (2662 views)

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
