Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.8 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 14 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by HandmadeHomemade on 1/10/2022: Slow ox 2hrs. Early side of prime drinking for me- notes of latex rubber, kefir lime leaves, wet stone, and citrus oils, unripe quince. Densely packed and not forthcoming in the nose. In the mouth, wine is lighter bodied, bright fruit acid almost aggressive. On the attack, I get citrus, petrol, tangy melon rind, fresh green apple juice, and some dank marijuana retronasal. This really seems to be still a baby. Wonderful with some milk braised pork.  Tasted by aquacongas on 9/11/2018 & rated 92 points: Best 2008 German Riesling GG; 9/9/2018-9/11/2018 (Concept Riesling Düsseldorf): Not many notes. Powerful. pure finish. apricots and green tea. Balanced at his Peak. 92 (1567 views)
Tasted by NoTrollingerPlease on 9/1/2018 & rated 92 points: 10 years after Riesling tasting - 2008 - Part II (Concept Riesling, Düsseldorf): Glass: Gabriel Universal Standard
*** All wines tasted blind, bottles opened a few hours before serving, served decanted ***
Clear, pale golden color. Clean nose, open. Dry. Ripe yellow fruit with fine rock flour and zests. Nice tension, good length. Potential for another 5+ years. 92-93 (1231 views)
Tasted by m_arcon on 9/1/2018 & rated 90 points: “Ten Years After” 2008 Dry Riesling Große Gewächse Tasting (Concept Riesling, Dusseldorf, Germany): Too ripe for my taste. Lives mostly from the ripe fruit and some caramel notes. Good length. No potential. (1131 views)
Tasted by Mahatma Chianti on 11/5/2017 & rated 93 points: 1h decanting, drank from Gabriel-Glas. Pale golden color, open and rich developed bouquet: baked apple, stone fruits, rhubarb-cake, mandarin, hints of petrol, kerosene and bee balm.
On the palate very round and supple, dry but with a touch of sweetness, medium+ body. Finishes long with precise acidity and a trace of salty minerality, adding a good edge to the hedonistic richness of this wine. Some more years left to go, but why wait? I think, this wine is right on the spot now. (1200 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 1/28/2017 & rated 92 points: A German Wine Tasting-cum-Lunch (Restaurant De Nederlanden *, Vreeland, NL): Deep and rich, spicy minerality, expressive and rich, balanced and fresh, extract and tension. (1734 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 1/28/2017 & rated 92 points: German wine tasting followed by a Lunch (@ de Nederlanden): The bouquet is still a bit locked, but there are soft white fruits and minerals. On the palate a nice mix of limestone, tropical fruits and some caramel. Nice balance between acidity and sweetness. (1564 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 1/15/2016 & rated 90 points: The wine was medium yellow-golden in colour and offered peach, “brown” apple slice, citrus, lemon tart and signs of bottle age on the nose. On the palate the medium-bodied wine showed peach, apple flavours, complemented by intense minerality and very mild herbal spiciness, with medium-plus acidity and superb length. The wine benefited from moderate aeration. It drank well at its current stage and did not show signs of going down soon either, so no need to hurry. (1239 views)
Tasted by Gargantua on 10/27/2013 & rated 93 points: Wow, this is like a "Best of" Pechstein. Amazingly saline, black basalt indeed. True that it's easy to mistake Pechstein's bite for a flaw but ohohoo, this is undeniably potent, massive delicious wine. This is some of my favorite Riesling in the world. (1701 views)
Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 10/10/2013 & rated 92 points: VinoLaprisco Tasting (Restaurant De Karpendonkse Hoeve *, Eindhoven, Netherlands): Lovely basalt minerality, relatively dry but with a tropical note to the fruit. (1884 views)
Tasted by wurzel68 on 6/28/2013 & rated 92 points: Fetter Wein; an der Nase Zitrusfrüchte, Butter, wenig Petrol, Kräuterduft, Akazie, gelbes Steinobst; am Gaumen voller Schmelz; subtile, hintergründige Säure, gute Melange aus Zitrus, gelbem Steinobst und Reifetönen, sehr langer Abgang, "burgundischer" Riesling mit herber Säurenote im späten Abgang (1270 views)

t - sl. spicy, explosive fruit, t. sweetness, bracing acidity

#2014 Vintage Notes:
2014 Vintage Report by Terry Theise
2014 Vintage Report by Wine Spectator
"My gut still tells me the Saar (and to some extent) the Ruwer are better overall in 2014 than the more storied areas of the Mosel proper, but those that spent the requisite time living in their middle-Mosel vineyards made some of the most electric and "feathery" Riesling in a long time (maybe the finest in 20 years - yes, it's true!)" - Jon Rimmerman (Of course only a very short historical memory would call the Saar and Ruwer less 'storied' than the middle Mosel - jht)
