Tasted by jviz on 11/8/2019 & rated 88 points: Opened gradually with air exposure in the glass. Still kind of simple and lacking in complexity. However, no significant flaws or distractions, so all in all I thought it showed as expected (2385 views)
Tasted by olioli on 4/21/2019 & rated 92 points: Sur les notes secondaires. Très peu de tertiaires à ce point.
Style bordelais.
Pizza maison. (2296 views)
Tasted by Trans-agri on 11/18/2017: Wonderful! (3175 views)
Tasted by DoubleMagnum on 11/18/2017 & rated 92 points: Fully mature. Drinks like Cru Bordeaux. Had against its big Ornellaia brother and this held very well. Cassis, black currants and other dark fruits along with leather, cedar and toast. There is a hint of overripe fruits which announces we are at the other side of the curve. This is drinking well, and it is time to drink it.
PAIRING: Asado Peruano [A+] (3069 views)
Tasted by presterjohn on 9/27/2014: dark plummy, slightly woody, fruit, good texture, bitter grainy tannins, very nice but not exciting. might develop for a few more years (5964 views)
Tasted by dlcass on 9/22/2013 & rated 87 points: Disagreement between my wife and I on this one. She enjoyed it very much. I thought the nose was good; but I felt the wine was not very integrated; perhaps past it's prime. (5602 views)
Tasted by philorkill on 4/21/2013 & rated 87 points: Average. Expected more for that price (5844 views)
Tasted by _Xenon on 4/15/2013 & rated 89 points: Quite ok. Typical sangiovese. After drinking the 2008 I expected a bit more from a wine, which was cellaring for 8 years more. (5145 views)
Tasted by BuffaloBill25 on 3/29/2013 & rated 92 points: Only had 1 glass but very good balance with sour black cherry ,black current flavor profile. Tannin still there but mellowed nicely. Would drink now or hold 3 to 5yrs (5185 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 10/27/2012 & rated 91 points: A fine example of mature Bolgheri wine; intense, slightly spicy fruit, with blackcurrant and a touch of vanilla; quite thick textured, still lively and with good length. (1800 views)
Tasted by darrenhe on 4/6/2012 & rated 91 points: This is the best bottle of this vintage I have had. Just lovely deep blackcurrant fruit and tannins have at last rowed back a but but are still there. Still not as good as 2006 or even 07 but pretty good on this showing (3771 views)
Tasted by darrenhe on 9/5/2010 & rated 87 points: Much better showing than in March. This is a claret in all but name and has plenty of class as well. Serious cedar dark fruits on the nose with medium tannin and a lovely weighty blackcurrant palate. Some green leaf and mint as well. Enjoyable

This is even better after 2 days in decatner.....really softened out and that Italian funk coming through....more like a 89-90 point wine now (4074 views)
Tasted by winejnky on 6/14/2010 & rated 90 points: Bold with cherry and currant flavors; plenty of old world character, a bit austere and good acidity, but also plenty of new world oomph, Cab Sauv prominent tonight with oak in a supporting role. (3839 views)
Tasted by darrenhe on 3/21/2010 & rated 80 points: Really poor bottle that never went anywhere. Musty nose and dense cumbersome chunky fruit. Tannins are still quite harsh. Expected far more (3975 views)
Tasted by Lulu2 on 3/9/2010 & rated 89 points: 2nd of 2 list it's jammy from 1/09 tasting.. fruit, with nice finish.. 4 more years and it would round out to smooth finish:-p reco as purchase!!:) enjoyed with lamb and good friends!!:) (3942 views)
Tasted by darrenhe on 12/6/2009 & rated 87 points: Interesting wine in comparision to 2006, the later being the superior. This has yet again the Bolgheri trick of being a Bordeaux classed growth but with that extra rustic italian sweetness in the mid-palate. This was quite chunky and would probably decant next time but still a very enjoyable wine. The nose is really perfumed (petit verdot) with the palate delivering deep red fruit and almost chocolate finish which is long. Will keep the others for another few years and will decant next time (3886 views)
Tasted by jarjarbinx99 on 11/28/2009 & rated 89 points: Poivron vert domine les nez et la bouche. Tannins trés présent même pour un 2001. Très belle longueur et finale. Bâti pour bien vieillir. 89. (3956 views)
(3903 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 3/1/2009 & rated 90 points: Blackcurrants, cherries, with a hint of wood smoke; medium intensity with a fairly long finish; elegant. An attractive and stylish wine, still vigorous and with the structure to keep. (4062 views)
Tasted by hargy on 9/21/2008 & rated 90 points: deep purple to the rim - dry bouquet of black cherries and marzipan - black fruits all the way with the tannins well integrated - should still have a way to go, but excellent drinking now - drink now or keep (4117 views)
Tasted by winejnky on 9/21/2008 & rated 91 points: The nose is quite lively showing tar, leather, menthol and burnt rubber. Smooth & earthy, best after an hour or two of air time then closing up again. Day two shows better, less nose with more pronounced fruit and alcohol showing, still a bit tannic but with gobs of berry flavor. (4136 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 6/20/2008 & rated 90 points: Full, rich, blackcurrant fruit with some oak; vigorous but still capable of further development. Very long on the finish. 2001 was an excellent year in Tuscany and it shows. (4154 views)
Tasted by La Grappe on 6/8/2008 & rated 90 points: Full, well-extracted wine of substance and style. Attractive Bordeaux grape flavours underpinned by Italian acidity. Not many Bordeaux second growths are as good as this. (4157 views)
Tasted by Barbara B on 5/13/2008 & rated 86 points: 20th Anniversary for Ornellaia (Crowne Plaza Hotel, Rome): 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 30% Merlot
Ruby. Nose started with wood, burnt popcorn, sulfur; but opened up with nice fruits and earth. Sharply acidic, slightly sweet (~2 g/L RS), smooth tannins, alcohol seemed high. Medium body, medium length, not complex. (5827 views)
Tasted by RWilkinson on 11/19/2007: Better this time than last 12/2005, this appears to be developing nicely. 2 to 3 point higher... (4474 views)

Tenuta dell'Ornellaia Le Serre Nuove

A true ‘Second vin’ of Ornellaia, Le Serre Nuove dell’Ornellaia was first introduced with vintage 1997, resulting from the decision to carry out an even more rigid selection during the blending phase of the base wines which give life to Ornellaia. Produced primarily from the younger vineyards, the wine combines the pedigree of the flagship wine with freshness, accessibility and softness together with a structure, balance and intensity typical of the great terroir of the Estate.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.
