Tasted by WineCPA on 5/14/2023 & rated 91 points: Solid effort. Moderate tannins. Dried black cherry. Drinking well now. (817 views)
Tasted by VincentMorey on 2/13/2023: Popped and poured to taste, splash decanted by waitstaff and enjoyed over the course of dinner that lasted 2+ hours. In a very good place right now and incredibly elegant, with bright acidity, although this could easily age longer. Prior to the wine's evolution, pretty strong and notable mid palate notes of mint / menthol which was very interesting. Dark fruit still present but also a bit of floral, and plentiful acidity, and a hint of oak which slowly faded into the background. Magical with salumi, and got better with a lamb sausage pizza. After opening a 2017 Brunello with a one hour decant to discover that the oak was still pretty strong, this was the backup wine and fortunately it more than delivered. Wish I had more bottles. (976 views)
Tasted by Hover low 64 on 11/2/2022 & rated 93 points: Outstanding Brunello that takes a little time to open up. We drank our bottle after a 45 min decant, and it showed improvement over the next two hours. We really wanted to drink it over two nights but liked it too much to delay our gratification! We have one bottle left and are hopeful it will continue to evolve. Nice red fruit flavors with hints of licorce and an earthiness. Very balanced with fine tannins. Drink now or wait another 3-5 years to get more intensity. (1117 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 8/8/2022 & rated 91 points: better than a few years ago but still quite tannic. Needs a few more years (1885 views)
Tasted by mcromain1021 on 2/14/2022 & rated 90 points: Popped and poured and this is ready to go. Light notes of mushroom, apple, smoked meats. Not a pronounced bouquet at all. Tannins have smoothed and are well integrated at this point. I'd say peak window for this and drink now and over the next 3 years before it fades. (1719 views)
Tasted by Smatk on 12/26/2021: Reticent nose- palate blossomed after an hour of air: herbs, dark cherry, sandal wood, and balsamic. Melting tannins with a savory, evolving finish. Herbs and balsamic really prominent. Drinking very well with beef meatballs and rigatoni in a tomato gravy. (1501 views)
Tasted by Waël on 8/10/2021 & rated 90 points: No decant. The nose was stuffy at first but quickly gave way to forest floor, moist mushrooms, dark red cherry, and petroleum. The palate was medium bodied with a medium finish. Dark cherries, rubber, charcoal and leather. Tannins were soft and the wine is ready to drink. (1748 views)
Tasted by BigTex22 on 5/16/2021: PnP. Smelled of wet dog the first 10+ minutes to the point I thought it was corked. But I could taste the cherry behind the dog, so let this sit in the glass and the smell eventually went away. Classic dried cherry with plenty of tannins. This is still young and should be decanted at least an hour if you’re drinking now. I have one bottle left which I’ll keep for a while as this should benefit with more time. Good now, with potential for really good. (1698 views)
Tasted by greedy on 12/13/2020 & rated 88 points: Just average tonight. (1707 views)
Tasted by Al-Vino on 7/15/2020 & rated 90 points: Very good bottle...medium body, good nose and depth. (1678 views)
Tasted by 55degrees on 12/15/2019: Corked (2187 views)
Tasted by Beatsmith8 on 11/30/2019 & rated 93 points: Nice bouquet, excellent balance between fruit and barrel, generally a great vintage, wish I had another case (1897 views)
Tasted by Goodjob! on 9/21/2019 & rated 90 points: Not bad but I was expecting a lot more from a this Brunello in this beautiful vintage (1961 views)
Tasted by RBAIKIN on 6/23/2019 & rated 91 points: fairly closed in nose, mod tannins, keep other magnum few years (2008 views)
Tasted by jgkost on 5/31/2019 & rated 89 points: Nice but not aging very well. Fruit mostly gone, just kinda blah. This bottle? (1809 views)
Tasted by Chris@77 on 5/12/2019 & rated 92 points: I'm glad I opened one but it is quite young, zero bottle developed flavors. If I didn't know better with a top aged riserva I might think this may be it. Can't quibble with the notes of flavors or description. I can quibble with whether this is ready to drink ... it is not, needs more years ... how many, at least 2 (and hoped this would not be the case). No rating. Right now, it drinks like no different than a very best Classico Riserva. The 2012 Renieri was much more forward, lush, even more complex ... same for 2012 Donatella. Looking foward to this in the future.

5/13 I drank the 2d half tonight. Although there are no bottle flavors the wine opened up and was extremely enjoyable with primary flavors. There is nothing about this wine I don't like, pleased I bought it and hold many 2013's (update: changed my views of 2013). It was wonderful (I drink earlier in the day and bed early, an age thing!). Loved it.

8/28 Drinking 2d half of another one. First half consistent with above notes, 2d half indicates it should be ready in about a year. It is a rich, flavorful rendition of sangiovese. I raised the score a point. Because I may not hold the rest, please wait a year and look for notes from others. "Holding" is about value order ranking within the limited temp controlled space with unforeseen 2015/16 Bordeaux capturing. (1511 views)
Tasted by Smatk on 10/6/2018 & rated 95 points: Last bottle a year ago. Head and shoulders above any other Brunello I've had. Nose has opened - smoky, herbal, cherry. Gorgeous, juicy, smoky, sour cherry and herbal palate. Lengthy, dark cherry finish with ample mouth filling tannin and a hint of balsamic. Wow! Paired incredibly with veal tortelloni in a tomato meat sauce. Bright acidity with vivid fruit quality- just a beautiful wine all around right now. (1962 views)
Tasted by dunkertim on 8/18/2018 & rated 92 points: Berries upon berries upon berries on the nose. Hard decant opened up a smoky, earthy tannin rich palate, that should be a hallmark of Brunnelo. Celebrated Caroline's move, a great pre dinner luxury. (1910 views)
Tasted by Heynetty on 5/21/2018: Wine Dojo - Week 11 - Dinner with the Red Devils (Annette's Place): Tasted Blind

A: Pale garnet
N:medium (+) intensity. VA, cassis, blackberry, BLACK CHERRY, vanilla, leather, earth , coffee, toffee and a mushroom or two. Developing
P: As aroma. Dry,medium(+) acidity, medium (+) tannin, high alcohol (15%), medium (+) body, intensity and finish
C: Can drink now but has aging potential beyond 5 years. Outstanding quality wine.

MY GUESS: Old wolrld, moderate, brunello ( the VA and mushroom brought me there) (2469 views)
Tasted by Nutty08 on 4/26/2018 & rated 88 points: Thins didn’t hit me tonight. Odd mix of savory elements like tobacco and sage, mixed with fruit with an edge of over ripeness. Nose was rather closed. May just be in an awkward stage. (2432 views)
Tasted by tantotinto on 2/19/2018 & rated 91 points: Decanted for a couple of hours before tasting but needed a couple of more hours to really open up. Cherry, sage, spice and great acidity on the finish. Very good tonight with Pasta Bolognese. Our only bottle but if we had more would not touch it for several more years. Score based on where it is tonight after four hours of air. (2618 views)
Tasted by Hanibal on 11/18/2017 & rated 91 points: The nose is cherries red fruit. The color is red. The alcohol is medium. On the palate it allot of tannins still. I had put in decanter for 4 hours and still quite closed. This wine needs another few years to shine. Now it is powerful with tarry taste. Red fruits and medium to high tannins. This wine is likely to keep improving so be patient. (3554 views)
Tasted by Smatk on 9/23/2017 & rated 92 points: Decanted and followed for about six hours. Nose fairly unexpressive of primary dark cherry fruit. On the palate, dark cherry, sweet and tart, some spice, good acidity and excellent firm ripe tannins - some hints of balsamic and some herbaceousness in there. Beautiful, young, sensual, and long, excellent fruit quality. Paired nicely with five cheese spinach crespelle manicotti and fresh tomato sauce. Looking forward to following this wine's development. (3101 views)
Tasted by zackmayo on 9/17/2017 & rated 93 points: Needs a couple hours of air. (2867 views)
Tasted by DrZett on 8/16/2017 & rated 92 points: Beautiful Brunello with much fruit and a long finish. Will get better with a few more years. I like the 2010 Brunello vintage. (3075 views)

Producer background

Sangiovese

SANGIOVESE: (Pronounced "sahn-joh-vhe-se").
Sangiovese - Italy's claim to fame, the pride of Tuscany. Traditionally made, the wines are full of cherry fruit, earth, and cedar. It produces Chianti (Classico), Rosso di Montalcino, Brunello di Montalcino, Rosso di Montepulciano, Montefalco Rosso, and many others. Sangiovese is also the backbone in many of the acclaimed, modern-styled "Super-Tuscans", where it is blended with Bordeaux varietals (Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc) and typically aged in French oak barrels, resulting a wine primed for the international market in the style of a typical California cabernet: oaky, high-alcohol, and a ripe, jammy, fruit-forward profile.[16]

Semi-classic grape grown in the Tuscany region of Italy. Used to produce the Chianti and other Tuscan red wines. Has many clonal versions, two of which seem to predominate. The Sangiovese Grosso clone Brunello variety is used for the dark red, traditionally powerful and slow-maturing "Brunello di Montalcino" wine. The other is the Sangiovese Piccolo, also known under the historical synonym name Sangioveto, used for standard Chianti Classico DOC wines. Old vine derived wine is often used in the better versions, needing several years ageing to reach peak. A third clone, Morellino, is used in a popular wine blend with the same name found in the southern part of the province. Recent efforts in California with clones of this variety are very promising, producing medium-bodied reds with rich cherry or plumlike flavors and aromas. Among the available clonal versions are R6 and R7, derived from the Montalcino region of Italy, having average productivity/ripening and producing small berries on medium size clusters. R10 and R24 are well-recommended. R23, listed as deriving from the Emilia-Romagna region, has good vigor with medium-small clusters with earlier ripening. R102 derives from the Montepulciano region and reported to have average vigor with moderate productivity that results in higher sugar levels and good acidity from medium-small berries on medium-small clusters. Has synonym name of Nielluccio where grown in Corsica.
