Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 91.7 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 3 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Xavier Auerbach on 10/17/2015 & rated 93 points: Double decanted for three hours. Deep, rich and saturated colour, even at 16 years of age very little evolution; deep and dark nose, closed to the point of being impenetrable, real sense of purity, cherries, warm spices, raisins, hint of vanilla, schist; very powerful on the palate, immense concentration and weight, extremely tannic, bursting with mineral energy, so structured it feels almost dry, linear and precise, black cherries and cocoa; very long finish. Incredibly youthful: so vibrant and vital that you could easily mistake this for a 2011. Almost an antithesis of the elegant, feminine 1994. Seemingly ageless. Score is a bit of a riddle too. I am being conservative. No idea when this sleeping giant will wake up. But when it does, will the fruit still be there? Next bottle in 2025. (92). After 24 hours the wine has softened and opened up a bit, but it remains an inky bruiser. The stuffing of ripe cherry fruit seems more than adequate however and the wine shows a full and fleshy face, with notes of dark chocolate and warm spices. Powerful, not without heat but concentrated and very long finish with a hint of demerara sugar. Bodes well but requires patience. (93) (3926 views)
Tasted by Lord Rodney on 3/27/2012 & rated 90 points: Nice young and dark port. Cool cherries and crushed rocks. Very good. (5851 views)

Port Blend

Over a hundred varieties of grapes (castas) are sanctioned for port production, although only five (Tinta Barroca, Tinto Cão, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), Touriga Francesa, and Touriga Nacional) are widely cultivated and used.
