| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.3 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 9 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by ohne_musik on 1/24/2021 & rated 89 points: Starts out a bit shrill and thin, but unfurls a bit over 3 hours. Charming crunchy red fruit, pretty florals, subtle menthol, savory roast duck and a whisper of five-spice. Still on the dilute and tart side to call it well balanced, but the purity of fruit and delicious secondary notes still make it a winner. (366 views) | | Tasted by James Kim on 10/10/2015 & rated 90 points: Drank this some time ago. Remember nice gamay fruits, minerals, and just happy. nice wine and QPR. (437 views) | | Tasted by James Kim on 7/10/2013 & rated 91 points: Red Fruity, crunchy, spicy, minerally, a bit of earth. Just nice. (430 views) | | Tasted by James Kim on 5/13/2013 & rated 90 points: Initially closed but with air, opens up a bit with red berries and a lot of minerality and really nice acids. Palate follows with silky but earthy texture. Not sure if it went carbonic maceration. Fruit opens up more on day 2 and gains just a hair of weight. Still very light on its feet, though. (432 views) | | Tasted by rhit on 2/13/2013: Light and exuberant, with almost-too-sweet fruit and strong acidity. A decent guzzler, but it lacks the harmony and cool of most French gamay I've had. (1427 views) | | Tasted by theronware on 2/12/2013 & rated 88 points: Bright fruit on the nose -- maraschino cherry, plum -- along with subtle cinnamon spice. Nice acid on the palate and some cheeky sassafras on the finish. (1288 views) | | Tasted by diggydan on 12/7/2012 & rated 85 points: Translucent red color. Really does have a "bone-jolly" aroma but it's hard to describe - maybe a sweet-smelling, floral and fruity nose. The mouthfeel is light weight; the attack, sweet fruit. For me, the wine starts to go downhill at the mid-palate, where a sharp bitterness picks up and continues into the finish. The wine's acidity also seems unbalanced to my palate. But for $19.99, worth it just for the nose (and back label)! (1153 views) |

| Edmunds St. John Producer websiteGamay Noir Varietal character (Appellation America)USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Sierra FoothillsAmador |
