Community Tasting Notes (average 91.1 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 13 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/24/2024 & rated 89 points: United Polaris wine. Black cassis and plum with faintly sweet spice, good weight and balance with plenty of fun now. (499 views)
Tasted by MateusPetrus on 3/23/2024 & rated 90 points: Too sweet for me, but party goers liked it. My girl does too. Way overpriced, though. (258 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 3/14/2024 & rated 92 points: Served on United flight (Hong Kong to San Francisco). Deep dark magenta color. Plum, raspberry, cream cheese frosting, and subtle thyme. Dry, satiny palate, with fine acidity. Full, medium intensity tannins on the longish finish.

This is a terrific QPR. I liked it more than a week ago when I had it going in the other direction. It would be even better on the ground. The acid and tannins both have a good linger. (686 views)
Tasted by AGELVIS on 3/8/2024 & rated 90 points: PNP. Very very deep magenta color. Baby powder, grape leaf, black cherry, pumpkin pie, and apple core. Smooth, dry, full bodied palate. Firm tannins on the longish finish.

Served in Polaris cabin on my United flight from San Francisco to Hong Kong. I suspect this would be better at home. The nose and palate were distorted by the altitude. Decent drinker nonetheless. (666 views)
Tasted by bryon m on 6/24/2023 & rated 92 points: This is a much bigger wine than I remember. Lots of time left in the bottle and it will likely get better. I will hold off and drink my next one Ina a year.
Good color and body. Very fruit forward but has many other flavors as well. With time it will be more complex and softer. (916 views)
Tasted by Camvin on 8/27/2021: 86/100 (2021 views)

Chateau St. Jean

Producer website

Founded in 1973, Chateau St Jean has long been recognized as a leader in Sonoma County Vineyard Designated wines. Winemaker Margo Van Staaveren uses her more than 35 years of vineyard and winemaking expertise with Chateau St Jean to highlight the best of each vineyard in every wine.

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

California

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
