Tasted by Mrbuzz on 11/13/2012 & rated 92 points: Meaty, florals, leather....holding up well. (3368 views)
Tasted by Winecat on 8/12/2011 & rated 90 points: Complex with mature fruit. Tannins are present as well as mineral components good balance. Sweet jam is thankfully absent (3607 views)
Tasted by joshwoodward on 12/5/2010 & rated 89 points: Popped and decanted for sediment. Very interesting nose - talc, dry-aged meat, minerality, and background black fruit. On the palate, surprisingly austere and light. The secondaries are there in all their glory, with some red raspberries hiding out. The minerality is off the charts for what I'd expect from a RRV Syrah. Not a trace of overripeness or gooey jammy flavors, but the smooth tannins keep this from being harsh. I don't think this is going to get any better, so drink up. $23 WB (4116 views)
Tasted by wishiwereking on 11/1/2009 & rated 90 points: Aging very nicely, very good Syrah. Highly recommended, can still age longer at this point. (4515 views)
Tasted by WineGrotto on 5/31/2009 & rated 90 points: Simply outstanding. Had several to many years of aging potential left in my opinion. Another great wine from the cellar bites the dust pre-divorce. (4632 views)
Tasted by davergny on 3/16/2009 & rated 88 points: Silky, mid-weight, tannins fully integrated, a little too sweet, simple. Good, but I liked the 2001 much better. Not as intense, rich, or complex as 2001. (2339 views)
Tasted by wineaboutit on 8/3/2008 & rated 90 points: Nose of plum and blackberry, w/a tad of earth. Smooth and sliky, drinking very well now. Medium bodied, and as the wine opened seemed to increase in weight.
A nice match, w/BBQ pork loin roast, tortellini and broccoli w/parmesean cheese sauce. Yummy, wish we had more. (2108 views)
Tasted by chris_3 on 3/4/2008 & rated 85 points: Very smooth nicely aged similar to a very good aged Zin. Little of the youthful Syrah character left but medium tannins integrated with a smooth leathery and mild licorice flavor. Opened an hour before drinking and drank over a couple of hours (2268 views)
Tasted by Mrbuzz on 1/7/2008 & rated 93 points: Was a little worried at first...bottle showed signs of seepage. Decanted for about an hour....beautiful fresh flower floralness, white pepper, tar, blackberry, cherry, meat nose. Reminds me of Cote Rotie! Smooth and subtle in the mouth....ripe wild berry fruit, cherries sprinkled with pepper thrown on the grill! Tannins are silky, very smooth wine, yet has a spice kick. Lots of florals in this wine....is there Viognier in here??? Has licorice, some herbs, nice framed oak. The only minus is a short finish. Another bottle might even show better. (2353 views)
Tasted by winegr on 10/18/2007 & rated 90 points: Drank a while ago. Good northern rhone style syrah, a more complex style than some of the cali fruit bombs. Some leather and sprice and vanilla and licorice (2483 views)
Tasted by nubbin on 7/26/2007 & rated 89 points: A beautiful domestic Syrah -- unfiltered. Rich, round, moderately concentrated fruit with enough earthiness to add balance and dimension. Tannins were supple. 14.2% alco (D6.6, F 6; gift) (2566 views)
Tasted by Zindoctor on 6/24/2007 & rated 86 points: Fresh berries and alcohol on the nose, somewhat misleading given the full-bodied middle of plum, earth and licorice. Pairs well with food. Tannins integrated well. (2708 views)
Tasted by mmyette on 12/5/2006 & rated 85 points: Not great. Nose of herb and menthol, slightly sour taste, with fine tannins, some muted fruit, and a decent finish, keeping the wine from being a total loss. I was disappointed. (2634 views)
Tasted by chris_3 on 7/28/2004 & rated 92 points: FABULOUS NOT as syrah forward as the australina, more wine like, more a rich french style (2402 views)

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
