Community Tasting Notes (average 89.4 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 60 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Sijan on 1/21/2018: Quite tart & seemingly past its prime (611 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 1/28/2017 & rated 89 points: 4th Saturday Brown Bagger (Mark & Rochelle's): Faded crimson color. Aromas of sour cherry, raspberry and red plum. Flavors of pepper, dark fruit and plum; spice and sour red fruit on the finish. As it sits it becomes less sour and brighter, improving quite a bit. Notes of cherry and chambord with cherry compote flavors. One taster's WOTF.

Our last bottle, and a nice showing once it opened up and blossomed. This had been double decanted off its sediment about 90 minutes before this flight was poured. (1222 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 4/20/2015 & rated 90 points: This bottle was in its prime, with a youthful purple/crimson robe. Aromas of blackberry, black cherry, white pepper, Christmas spices, plum and licorice with floral undertones. The florals stand out as the evening wore on. Medium-bodied and balanced, with blackberry, cherry, raspberry and spice flavors. Medium+ finish. Very tasty. One bottle left and as well as this is drinking now, it will not last much longer in the cellar. 90+ pts for both Domino and I. (1199 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 4/5/2015 flawed bottle: Corked. (1202 views)
Tasted by Wine Sparty on 8/13/2014 & rated 87 points: Popped and poured with grilled pork chops. Very ripe fruit of mixed berries, and a bit too jammy. This was just a bit too ripe for my liking. (1374 views)
Tasted by grossie on 5/14/2014 & rated 90 points: Drank very well, but I suspect it is not going to go much longer. I don't often say that of young wines, but this bottle struck me as fully mature. Great fruit, refined, some liqueur profile. (1223 views)
Tasted by grossie on 5/9/2014: prematurely aged, I think it was heat damaged. Drinkable but not much more than that. NR (1086 views)
Tasted by David_T on 2/4/2014 & rated 90 points: My last bottle but the best of the three I've had. Notes of olive, red licorice and red fruit on the nose. The palate shows red fruit, red licorice and herbs with fairly high acidity, light tannins and a medium-length finish. Drinking well now but should last a couple more years. (857 views)
Tasted by bvwino on 10/29/2013 & rated 90 points: Drinking really nice. (999 views)
Tasted by NTR on 8/6/2013 & rated 90 points: Clean, crisp...one of the better Hauts....almost up there with the 07...drinking really well and WAY above its price point. Scrumptious. Vinole hit it "just fun to drink" (915 views)
Tasted by vinole on 7/12/2013 & rated 90 points: Even better than my TN of 2/12 as the wine was fully ready as a PnP and hitting all cylinders as a juicy, somewhat forward wine that is just fun to drink. (913 views)
Tasted by Tubulus on 4/17/2013 & rated 89 points: Interesting experience. Day 1 pop n pour tasted a bit more like BDX, a bit green and bitter but with nice fruit. Day 2 much more full bodied and fruited. I think somewhere in between would have been perfect, so maybe open this a few hours before drinking. (1077 views)
Tasted by NTR on 1/30/2013 & rated 90 points: So soon after the last one...and completely different. Same great berry nose but more luscious palate, slightly bitter..seems it either depends on the drinker at the time or there is slight bottle variation. Still great QPR (1000 views)
Tasted by NTR on 1/13/2013 & rated 89 points: Great nose but weak taste. Little harsh. Granted this was a pop and pour but not up to typical QPR Stefania entry level Haut Tubee. Although still far better than your mass produced 10,000 case Cali red.... (951 views)
Tasted by NTR on 11/30/2012 & rated 90 points: Very simple but tasty Stefania. Always a great QPR. Very fruit forward, medium tannins, cherry with a legit mid palate you do not get at the price point in most wines. Good stuff (856 views)
Tasted by Vino Me on 11/10/2012 & rated 89 points: Offline with Hawaii Wine-O's; 11/9/2012-11/10/2012 (Haggis Home- Honolulu): Opened at the Hawaii offline by Haggis. No formal notes. 88-89 points. (1886 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 10/28/2012 & rated 90 points: Cherry, raspberry liqueur and pepper & spice notes. Bright acidity with flavors of cherry, currants, blue fruit and white pepper. Finishes well. Loads of terrific briary red and dark fruit as it opens over a couple of hours. Loads of delicious fruit. (1027 views)
Tasted by redknife on 10/10/2012 & rated 90 points: A burgers/BBQ wine very nice (995 views)
Tasted by balkmr@hotmail.com on 10/1/2012 & rated 88 points: What a pleasure to drink. Sour cherries and sadlewood. Tart. (1324 views)
Tasted by David_T on 9/16/2012 & rated 89 points: The greenness from a year ago has disappeared, leaving nice sour red fruit, spice, and a touch of earth/oak. High acid, light tannins, medium finish. (997 views)
Tasted by Haggis on 8/24/2012 & rated 89 points: Consistent with previous note (7/7/12) (1056 views)
Tasted by vinole on 8/19/2012 & rated 89 points: Consistent with previous notes. (1108 views)
Tasted by Haggis on 7/7/2012 & rated 89 points: Easy drinking cornucopia of half a dozen varietals, predominantly zin and cab. No formal notes taken, but like this a lot. I would hold for another year. (1212 views)
Tasted by vinole on 7/3/2012 & rated 89 points: Consistent with my previous TN of 2/5/12. (1162 views)
Tasted by VinoDiver on 4/9/2012 & rated 88 points: Lush fruit with a fuller body than last time. Nice nose and mid-pallet, with shorter finish. Still a wonderful QPR. Delicious! (1373 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
