Community Tasting Notes (average 92.3 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 53 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Bomb Cellar on 1/7/2022 & rated 83 points: Fading. (942 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 7/4/2021 & rated 97 points: Rich yellow; rich nose, maize (?), some vanillin; rich, creamy, honey-like with lots of taste and sun, not that much acidity; as with other Kistler 10, I believe they are at max drinking window right now, no reason to keep - drink up at its peak right now (1126 views)
Tasted by stoneb on 5/7/2021 & rated 94 points: Medium straw color. Bright nose of white and tropical fruit, note of vanilla. Palate had that along with flinty minerality and oak supporting the rich fruit. Much fresher than a prior bottle (both from the winery and stored 3 inches from this one in a good cellar), which had some oxidation in progress. This was a superb bottle. No need to wait any longer on these. Drink now. (1138 views)
Tasted by Miceri on 2/14/2021 & rated 96 points: Kistler white 2010 - all are singing now - see also previous notes from Jan and Feb re cuvee Cathleen; Kistler vineyard at more or less same level, but if anything perhaps a slightly lighter less dense and less concentrated expression; nevertheless a really good wine in a very good spot (1296 views)
Tasted by Bomb Cellar on 1/24/2021 & rated 93 points: Drink now. Luscious. (1158 views)
Tasted by EAC.Nica on 9/5/2020 & rated 95 points: Perfect. Buttery. Smooth (668 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 9/5/2020: Ravinia at Home (The Krengels - Bannockburn IL): Small glass, brief note. Still bright enough, showing lots of richness, but wish more textural elegance. (1797 views)
Tasted by Bomb Cellar on 7/24/2020: Big and rich. Definitely on its slow decline down the aging hill, but still delicious! (355 views)
Tasted by agnorger on 3/17/2020 & rated 89 points: Past it’s prime. Drink now. Apple cider character. Lacks the vibrancy of later vintages. Drinkable with richer food. Roast chicken still works (996 views)
Tasted by davidsm on 3/11/2020: Gonzo. (881 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 3/1/2020 & rated 88 points: Dark golden, color of apple cider. In my opinion past its peak but still enjoyable. Retaining some of the fruit , enough of the acidity and finishes with apple cobbler. (1170 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 2/1/2020 & rated 93 points: Light greenish/gold color. Aromas of pear and apples, almonds, limes and minerals. Ripe, beautifully balanced fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Nicely integrated and long on the palate. Still very fresh and lively at 10 years of age. (800 views)
Tasted by Neuman on 11/3/2019 & rated 93 points: This bottle was in perfect shape at 9 years old. Golden color and satin smooth texture. Great aromas and nice acid on the long finish. Perfect with an herbed roast chicken on a fall Sunday night. (959 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 2/21/2019 & rated 90 points: Consistent notes with previous tasting. This one a little better than the last one but facing many of the same issues. (1077 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 2/20/2019 & rated 89 points: This bottle hasn’t evolved well. Coloured medium golden. The nose is toasty pear. The palate is fleshy pear, golden apple, almond and toast where the oak has overwhelmed the fruit. Won’t get better. If you have this wine drink up although admittedly I have seen some bottle variation in this over time (1039 views)
Tasted by buckeye76 on 1/5/2019 & rated 93 points: Citrus, pears, peaches, and a hint of minerals in the nose. Citrus, apples, and hints of vanilla and minerals in the flavor. Rich wine, well balanced, and a long finish. (1171 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 10/14/2018 & rated 91 points: Overall in pretty good shape. Nice aged nose. Vibrant, fleshy body and flavors. Lacking complexity though and already past peak. (1196 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 10/3/2018 & rated 89 points: This bottle at first seemed very youthful, with a robust light to moderate yellow color and vibrant fleshy palate but both the nose and the palate didn’t really come together well as with past bottles. The wine appeared while delicious in some respect the wine was out of balance and unfocused. (1056 views)
Tasted by mclanew on 9/30/2018 & rated 93 points: Nice nose of peach and flowers open onto a fleshy palate of minerals, lemon rind, peach and vanilla crust. This has a bit more focus and tension which I liked than other recent Kistlers I have had (755 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 4/3/2018 & rated 92 points: Ditto last note. (1436 views)
Tasted by oncocyte on 11/18/2017 & rated 90 points: This bottle was a moderate yellow in color. One+ taster thought early maderizaton. I'm thinking nonrepresentative bottle. Satisfactory still, if somewhat muted flavors. My other 2010 Kistler notes don't mention easily visible aging. Further research will be done. (1728 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 10/7/2017 & rated 94 points: Drank over 2 nights, balanced ripe orchard fruits and acidity. Better 2nd night. (1721 views)
Tasted by joiito on 9/2/2017: Green grass, lemon, almost effervescent (725 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 4/19/2017 & rated 93 points: butter, apricot, some minerality, just enough acidity. drink or will go another 3-5 years. (2029 views)
Tasted by rlove on 7/15/2016 flawed bottle: Cooked. (Bottle number 13237) (2743 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson

Mendocino County

Sonoma Valley

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
