Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 92.6 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 31 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by despore on 12/25/2023 & rated 92 points: A: deep ruby, just a touch of fade at the rim
N: crushed violet, vanilla, black pepper, red and black plum, black berry, black cherry
P: dry, 14% ABV, med (+) soft, velvety tannins, high acidity, full body
C: outstanding = balanced fruit and acidity/tannins, med (+) intensity, pronounced concentration, med (+) complexity, long finish on fresh black fruit. While soft with lovely mouthfeel the wine has a freshness that is unexpected, really lively in the mouth and so easy drinking. Drink now or over coming 10 years. (794 views)
Tasted by Es7e2003 on 9/16/2023 & rated 92 points: See previous notes. Pepper, violets and minerality. Beautiful. Better with food. (878 views)
Tasted by repoock on 3/25/2023 & rated 89 points: Meh...group of friends joined me to drink Magnum of Delas Tourettes. Everyone thought the price point was way to high ($160.00) Why does the wine bottle say 2015 but the cork says 2017? Very disappointing. (1280 views)
Tasted by rogerr on 3/15/2023 & rated 92 points: Drinking beautifully right out of the gate but improves with a couple hours of air. Nicely evolving with only a tease of tertiary aromas and flavors. (1304 views)
Tasted by ChopperWine on 2/14/2023 & rated 94 points: Superb (1371 views)
Tasted by jeffreylubowski on 10/3/2022 & rated 94 points: This is a beauty. Just a very pretty and pure wine all around. Tons of florals, violets and orchids. Purple fruit everywhere, blackberry and plum. Its got the stone flavors going for it as wel. Retaining some tannins yes but not closed. At 55 degrees and a long decant this can perform. This was more ready to go than I thought it might be but can go much further. (1589 views)
(1947 views)
Tasted by Es7e2003 on 7/19/2022 & rated 93 points: Medium purple with ruby hues. Medium plus intensity on the nose. Plum, violets, crushed rock and black pepper. Guessed Syrah blind but the new oak is very evident at this stage which makes you think new world. Medium acidity and medium plus tannins. Fantastic long finish. Hold for 2-3 more years. Excellent qpr. (1084 views)
Tasted by danielbleier on 4/30/2022 & rated 95 points: Blackberry, plum, fig are balanced with black olive and solid minerality. Lovely wine with many years in front of it. (1293 views)
Tasted by WineTimeFineTime on 12/9/2021 & rated 93 points: Excellent. Well-aged plum and brambles. Well-integrated body. Nice flourish. Subtle and enduring as a pairing wine. (1514 views)
Tasted by Ericsson on 9/8/2021 & rated 93 points: Magnum. Ouvert et bu cette fois-ci. Robe prune, brillante.
(1684 views)
Tasted by maxima on 5/15/2021 & rated 94 points: Textbook Rhone Nord et résolument Hermitage ici!
EXCELLENT! (2424 views)
 Tasted by Raage on 4/5/2021 & rated 89 points: (A l'aveugle)
Dard & Ribo?)
Pas convaincu... (2186 views)
Tasted by Lyttelton on 12/26/2020 & rated 93 points: Round and smooth. Perfect balance. (1803 views)
Tasted by Ericsson on 12/20/2020 & rated 92 points: Magnum ouvert 6 heures avant consommation.
Couleur prune violet, épices, poivre blanc et herbes aromatiques, belle acidité, moyennement puissant, tanins encore vifs, belle longueur.
Très jeune, tiendra encore 10 ans.

Tasted by jkvedar on 11/24/2020 & rated 90 points: Still young. Decanted for 2 hours. Blueberry, some smoke and vanilla /baking spice on the nose. Palate is full-bodied. Lengthy finish. (1389 views)
Tasted by phrygianmode on 6/14/2020 & rated 93 points: Med-strong nose, black and blue berry with some smoky undertones. Not as much olive or meat as I'd expect. Palate is similar with excellent structure, acid and refined tannin. Long finish mostly featuring fruit notes. (1858 views)
Tasted by Ydaucourt on 3/1/2020 & rated 94 points: Déjà ÉNORME. long racé mais élégant. Grand avenir (1905 views)
Tasted by Jeff Leve on 2/9/2019 & rated 93 points: Silky, polished, round and lush, with ripe, sweet, red fruits, tannins that add strength, structure and the ability to age. Give this 6-8 more years and you're going to be quite happy with this wine. (3291 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 1/12/2019 & rated 92 points: Very dark red violet color; lifted, aromatic, violet, truffle, dried berry, boysenberry, black tea nose; silky textured, blackberry, black cherry, boysenberry, chocolate cherry palate with some balancing acidity; long finish 92+ points (1293 views)
Tasted by retired_and_roving on 12/11/2018: A week in the Northern Rhone; 12/7/2018-12/15/2018 (Lyon, Vienne, Ampuis, Chavanay, Hermitage, Cornas, St. Joseph, Condrieu & Paris): Tasted at the Domaine. Again super young and still showing some oak on the nose & palate. Dark fruits (blackberry and black currants), with grilled meats and a brambly earthiness. The structure is here to develop but needs time in the cellar - hold until 2025. (5452 views)
Tasted by Andre Brattland on 10/10/2018 & rated 92 points: Rik og kraftig duftbilde med mørke kirsebær, plommer, parfyme, kaffe ved bålet og blodig biff. Maskulin sak. Fyldig vin med tiltalende flott frukt. Lett parfymerte skogsbær, kaffebønner og mineraler. Noe sødmepreg i vinen med fint bitt i tanninene. Kompleks og lang utgang. Flott Hermitage dette. U.S. Importer (Addt'l Info)

Since 1996, the firm of Delas Frères has fully retrieved the glory and spirit that made its fame. A highly motivated team is proud to help give a new lease of life to this great Rhône Valley wine merchant firm, founded in 1835. Under the guidance of its current management, numerous investments have been made at the winery at Saint-Jean-de-Muzols, near Tournon-sur-Rhône. A specially designed fermentation hall for the making of red wines, and a thorough rebuilding of the ageing cellar are amongst the key elements of the new quality charter from Delas Frères. This can be summed up in one sentence : place man and wine at the centre of the stage, together with terroir.

Syrah

Varietal article (Wikipedia) | (Wines Northwest)

Note that some producers in the Northern Rhone distinguish between simply Syrah and "Serine", the latter described as ‘an ancient clone of Syrah, the berries of which are more oval-shaped and less deeply pigmented than Syrah’ by producer Tardieu-Laurent.

Guide to the wines and appellations of the Northern Rhone Valley -

The Rhône Valley/Le Vins de la Vallée du Rhône (Comité Interprofession des vins AOC Côtes et vallée du Rhône)

Regional History:
Phocaean Greeks established viticulture in the Rhone as far back as 600 BC, but until the 14th century the wines were not seen outside the region. The establishment of the Avignonese Papacy (1305-1377) brought fame to the region's wine-so much so that their Burgundian neighbors to the north banned wines from the Rhone in 1446, a measure that effectively cut off trade with England and other Northern European markets for over 200 years. Stretching southward from Lyon to just south of Avignon, the Rhone produces a wide variety of wines, with the appellations north of Valence producing the least (in volume), and the towns south of Montelimar producing prodigious amounts. As in other regions, the most interesting wines come from small farms. Saint-Joseph, in the northern Rhone, extends for some distance between Condrieu in the north to Saint-Peray in the south. The reds are made from Syrah and the rare whites from Marsanne and Roussanne, and Viognier.

Hermitage

Guide to Hermitage wine Guide to Cote Rotie - Read about the Northern Rhone Valley

• The appellation stretches over 3 communes in the Drôme "département" : Tain-l'Hermitage, Crozes-Hermitage and Larnage.

• The soils are a combination of granite with alluvial quaternary delta deposits, and, on the eastern side, Pliocene clay. This diversity explains the numerous different names given to vineyard plots within the appellation : Bessards, Greffieux, Méal, Roucoule, Beaumes, etc.

• The meso-climate provides shelter from the north winds, where the majority of the slopes is well exposed, facing south.

•The vineyards area adds up to 134 hectares/331 acres, with an annual production of 3,635 hectoliters. Authorized maximum yield is 40 hectoliters/hectare (2.3 US tons/acres).

• Grape varieties : Syrah (an addition of up to 15% of Marsanne or Roussanne is allowed).
