(567 views) | | Tasted by gmbdds on 6/18/2023 & rated 91 points: Respectable take on the Italian variety. Floral, wax and high toned citrus notes. Has good backbone and finish. (683 views) | | Tasted by lek55 on 3/15/2023 & rated 92 points: Crisp, lemony, good acid, great finish. (831 views) | | Tasted by agsdlswine on 7/31/2022 & rated 89 points: Enjoyable wine w/nice acid & mineral notes. Better on 2nd day. (1300 views) | | Tasted by BVal on 6/6/2022 & rated 88 points: Color/App: pale, faded yellow: light viscosity. Pleasant enough nose of lemon, lime, some grassiness and a hint of petrol. Light minerally palate that shows good acidity. This wine always reminds me of a light, low(er)-acid Sancerre. More of a Summer wine than most of the rest of Tablas' lineup. Refreshing and for drinking sooner vs. later. (1382 views) | | Tasted by WineCenturyAZ on 12/26/2021 & rated 89 points: Pale lemon in the glass, pronounced aromas and flavors, nose of blossom, citrus and stone fruits, palate is dry, fruits tend ripe, pear, citrus, mandarin, apricot, note of white cheese, acidity is high, body medium +, finish lingering and long. Proof that there is more to CA white wine than oak and over ripe fruit. Yummy. (1535 views) | | Tasted by chairmanzian on 6/4/2021 & rated 92 points: Vibrant, ripe lemon acidity but not too tart to be drank by itself. Used it in shrimp scampi and as the pairing and worked amazing. (1821 views) | | Tasted by wchrisw on 4/10/2021 & rated 88 points: Same as my previous note a couple months back. Was more vibrant last summer, more citrus, more acidic. Still a pleasant drink. (1871 views) | | Tasted by Bob in NC on 3/20/2021 & rated 90 points: The only Italian, or non-Rhone, grape that Tablas Creek grows and it's excellent. We have loved their Vermentinos vintage after vintage.
Has a great nose Nice round silky body. It's bright while having a soft mouth feel. Gorgeous citrus flavors with wonderful minerality. The acidity is perfect and provides a nice cleansing finish. It's a great sipper on its own and went perfect with our vegetable lentil stew with Italian seasonings.
Our last of the '19s; onto the '20s! (1548 views) | | Tasted by tward on 3/13/2021 & rated 89 points: Still drinking beautifully. ~2/3+ of the bottle consumed outside casually. Interestingly, the ~1/3 bottle left suctioned drank very well the next night, adding depth and texture beyond what we usually see from Vermentinos, Tablas' included.
(In a prior note I'd written "A glass+ left in bottle with a bit of argon and no suction was good the next night but seemed a little disjointed." So it seems that the no-gas + suction preserves this wine better once it's seen air?) (1524 views) | | Tasted by DickMull on 3/12/2021 & rated 88 points: Nice citrus on the nose. Not a complicated wine, but it has a wonderful acidity and crisp texture that is perfect with seafood. Does have a touch of silkiness on the finish. Delicious! (1374 views) | | Tasted by SLOFred on 3/11/2021 & rated 90 points: One of the best examples of this varietal. Better than most from Italy. I just feel that the soil and climate at TCV is great for this wine. Great minerality, citrus, peach. Nice stuff. (1189 views) | | Tasted by VlgJeff on 2/25/2021 & rated 88 points: PnP, chilled. The wine was clear, with a light green tinge. Lots of minerality on the nose, along with a touch of citrus. The medium bodied palate showed lots of minerality, some lemon, some grapefruit, touches of melon, and really vibrant acidity. Paired pretty well with a chicken and artichoke heart dish. Could probably hold for another 2 or 3 years. (1128 views) | | Tasted by wchrisw on 2/17/2021 & rated 87 points: I expected my thoughts to be on par with the other reviews here, no reason for me to reinvent the wheel as there was nothing new I could really add. I had a couple bottles over the summer and they all hit the same points: vibrant, grapefruit, citrus, lively. This bottle however was thinner, more like a sauv blanc, lacked those vibrant citrus flavors, more melon, soft, not much lift. No complaints, just I expected one thing and got another. (1131 views) | | Tasted by bavaur on 2/4/2021 & rated 91 points: Super lively, served straight from the fridge. Love the screw cap. Bright fresh grapefruit and melon on the nose with a ton of underripe tropical fruit underneath. Great steely mouthfeel with a creamy streak as well as a load more tropical fruit. Definitely a Sauvignon Blanc killer! (1097 views) | | Tasted by SLOFred on 1/10/2021 & rated 91 points: Great acidity and fruit. I challenge any Italian producer to do as good a job with this grape as TCV does. Excellent. (1296 views) | | Tasted by SLOFred on 12/27/2020 & rated 92 points: Better than most I have tased from Italy. Great crisp acidity, good fruit. (1270 views) | | Tasted by Diplomat Priest on 12/21/2020: We had this with raclette cheese. It drank very well on its own and was fine with the raclette. (1228 views) | | Tasted by Bob in NC on 11/25/2020 & rated 91 points: This is an excellent drinking wine on its own and with food. It really began to strut it's stuff as it warmed up. Wonderful citrus on the entry of lemon and white grapefruit. White flower and vibrant lime stone minerality on the mid-palate that leads to a clean vibrant finish.
Went well with our pan seared scallops, although the citrus flavors in the wine tended to overpower the rich flavor of the scallops. (1229 views) | | Tasted by yatchisin on 10/3/2020 & rated 90 points: Same as previous note: Grapefruit, saline, lemon-lime soda. Super refreshing. (1371 views) | | Tasted by wine4ever on 9/27/2020: Good "hot day" sipper wine. Very light and simple. Mild grapefruit aroma. Refreshing, dry, mineral and briny with herb and citrus notes. (1262 views) | | Tasted by yatchisin on 9/4/2020 & rated 90 points: Same as previous note: Grapefruit, saline, lemon-lime soda. Super refreshing. Great tonight with gazpacho on a warm evening. (1348 views) | | Tasted by khmark7 on 8/18/2020 & rated 87 points: Pleasant & simple with some good upfront character. Ideally best on it's own in my opinion. (1449 views) | | Tasted by Broch6833 on 8/2/2020 & rated 90 points: Consistent from year to year. Citrusy, bright, touch of minerality. Easy drinker. Good with or without food. (1413 views) | | Tasted by Weyenguy on 7/25/2020 & rated 90 points: Simply delightful. Medium body yet bright crisp citric acidity. Slight mineralogy on the nose and the palate. Perfect with our fresh from the garden vegetable salad. (1307 views) | | Only displaying the 25 most recent notes - click to see all notes for this wine... |
| Tablas Creek Producer website Tablas Creek Vineyard, founded by the Perrin family of Chateau de Beaucastel and Robert Haas of Vineyard Brands, is dedicated to growing grape varieties traditional to France's Rhone Valley. The partners chose hilly western Paso Robles for its limestone soils, rugged terrain, and ocean influence. All Tablas Creek wines are estate grown using environmentally sustainable practices.Vermentino Vermentino varietalUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
