Community Tasting History

Community Tasting Notes (average 88.3 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 90 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Markus IWC on 9/26/2015 & rated 75 points: Kraftig färg trots att det är oekat. Alldeles för sött och kraftigt för min smak till en fiskrätt (marulk). Upplevdes som en korsning mot dessert vin. Väldigt ovanligt vin i kategorin. Kanske oxiderat, för gammalt. Passade klart bättre till mellanrätt (glass/äpplen), hällde lite vin i glassen, trevlig kombo. (1392 views)
Tasted by JDRFoster on 11/26/2012 & rated 87 points: Tropical fruit nose, more lemon citrus in the mouth, crisp, refreshingly unoaked, medium finish, and a nice bit of spicy minerality. (7805 views)
Tasted by John Nezlek on 9/14/2012 & rated 92 points: Another excellent bottle. The first half of the bottle tasted like some kind of non-Burgundy white wine from France. It was rich and full, but not in the way that Chardonnay usually is. The second half of the bottle was more "typical" but still exceptional. I will definitely keep my eye out for more. The best Cal Chard I can remember having, although admittedly, I do not go that upscale with this type of wine. (8096 views)
Tasted by tcufletch on 9/1/2012 & rated 89 points: Very dark straw color; nose of butterscotch, lemon, granny smith apples, taste of mild citrus, mild butterscotch, fresh herbs; medium-strong acid; slightly thick viscosity; short to medium finish.

Really a great Napa Chard and I definitely prefer those that are unoaked. (8347 views)
Tasted by tcufletch on 7/13/2012 & rated 90 points: No formal tasting notes, which is odd as I've now had a few of these across a couple vintages. Really nice unoaked Chardonay produced by the Wagner family, who also make Caymus and Belle Glos wines. (8523 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 6/10/2012 & rated 91 points: One of my very favorite American chards. I seem to like it better than most on CT do, because I rate it higher. That's my story and I'm stickin' to it! (7912 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 3/27/2012 & rated 91 points: Glorious. Bright. Sassy. And just the right bit of tart. (2745 views)
Tasted by CarlCP on 9/3/2011 & rated 88 points: crisp nose with hints of pear. taste brings out the pear and fruits. smooth and very nice with spicy Cajun food. (4151 views)
Tasted by Neil H on 8/29/2011 & rated 91 points: Solid unoaked Chard. Drinking well right now. Great late summer wine. Recommended. (4405 views)
Tasted by RaphaelMalago on 8/29/2011 & rated 82 points: very good clean and straightforward chardonnay. not impressive but delivered the 'basics' of a good chardonnay. Very fresh on the nose with pineapple and apples, followed by a strong palate with freshness and quite a creamy characteristic. Good (4185 views)
Tasted by n2wine on 8/21/2011 & rated 88 points: Not a big fan of Chards but this one was good. Crisp and light. (4225 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 8/19/2011 & rated 90 points: Golden yellow color. Green apple, melon, pear, and peach aromas and flavors. Crisp fruit and citrus on the mid-palate leading to a long clean finish. Moderate acidity. Paired with pasta alfredo. Overall, an excellent Cali Chardonnay, perfect for summer time enjoyment. (4292 views)
Tasted by Neil H on 8/8/2011 & rated 90 points: Solid crisp chard. Highly recommend during the hot summer months. (4464 views)
Tasted by Schmeriu on 8/1/2011 & rated 90 points: - Yellow color. (4444 views)
Tasted by bullmrkt on 7/19/2011 & rated 84 points: Decent nose and lots of tropical fruits on the palate, but this is just too fat of a palate and too much alcohol for my tastes. That said, this has improved over the past year since I last had one. (4533 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 7/16/2011 & rated 91 points: With meats, cheeses and breads from Eataly, Soleil Unoaked is the perfect summer companion. Bright with notes of lemon, melon and apricot, creamy in texture, enduring in finish. What a pleasure! (4518 views)
Tasted by Freegrazer on 7/7/2011: pretty good (4615 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 6/10/2011 & rated 89 points: Straw yellow color. Green apple, pear, and lemon on the nose and palate. A crisp, dry, medium length, finish with citrus predominant. Moderate acidity in comparison to the fruitiness. Paired well with fettuccine alfredo. (4721 views)
Tasted by skaliner on 5/5/2011 & rated 86 points: too flinty (5154 views)
Tasted by Bowmanifesto on 4/24/2011 & rated 91 points: Bright straw color. Clean nose, with notes of fresh picked apples. On the palate, crisp melon, lemon zest, and fine sharp finish, with a cut like flint. In my mind's eye, this is laser light and arrow tip. Brilliant! (5192 views)
Tasted by John Nezlek on 3/20/2011 & rated 92 points: 90 points for being an excellent bottle of wine -- all components nicely balanced. 2 points for having some type of funky (in the positive sense of unusual) set of tastes. I could not pinpoint them (they were unique in my experience), but I really liked this bottle. Sorry that I do not have much for the adjective crowd. It's not my bag. (5325 views)
Tasted by hoservin on 2/13/2011 & rated 90 points: Fruity aromas with notes of apple, pear, lemon, honeysuckle, and vanilla. Nice fruit on the palate, consistent with the nose. Bright citrus and good acidity in balance on the mid-palate, with a clean, crisp finish. Paired very well with fettucine carbonara. Overall, a very nice chard and at $17 a good QPR. (5627 views)
Tasted by RJandGB on 1/23/2011 & rated 91 points: We always enjoy Silver and this is the last of our 2007. We poured it for a dinner of oysters and crab cakes (with whilte ports) - specifically to go with the grilled oysters with a lemon dill sauce - awesome. You can taste the Meyer Lemons that grow in the vineyard and it's crisp, clean chardonnay characteristics with good acidity and mineral. It is so different from the oaked chardonnay from the same vineyard that you can hardly believe they are the same grapes. (5790 views)
Tasted by EMichels on 1/3/2011 & rated 89 points: Beautiful nose; Like banana pudding; Rich (6013 views)
Tasted by Troon on 1/3/2011 & rated 87 points: The nose was pretty light. Apple and pear on the palate. This wine went well with shrimp pasta. (6089 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
