Tasted by mdkraft99 on 2/16/2020 & rated 88 points: Forgot we had this, so wasn't expecting much....but it was surprisingly better than expected, consistent with previous tasting notes but a bit past its prime. (1659 views)
Tasted by chester100 on 4/30/2016 & rated 90 points: Good fruit has reached the end of its run in the bottle but still drinks well (6858 views)
Tasted by Wine Concert Guy on 11/23/2015: still good. better than when i bought... but at its peak (7795 views)
Tasted by foobarski on 9/22/2015 & rated 90 points: Years later, still very consistent with my previous reviews. Still rich and full, with lots of spice on the nose and earthy berries on the palate. Despite what the listed window says, I think this is still far from done yet. (8024 views)
Tasted by Pbergevin on 6/5/2015 & rated 90 points: Rich. Deep and Awesome (8631 views)
Tasted by jset22 on 2/14/2015 & rated 91 points: Drinking fantastic now. Better than any other bottle I've had (8113 views)
Tasted by Tequilahal on 1/13/2015 & rated 86 points: To old. Bitter finish. (3766 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 10/31/2014 & rated 88 points: great wine. had during trick or treating (3894 views)
Tasted by The Chadd on 9/26/2014 & rated 90 points: Amazing nose on this. Big fruit aroma. Lots of tannins, well balanced with the fruit in the flavor. blackberry, currents, mulberry. yum! (3582 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 9/13/2014 & rated 87 points: Unfortunately, the Phantom was 'tired' ... it didn't deliver as compared to previous vintages. Although it looked great in the glass (no brown around the edges) with its ruby hue, on the palate there was just a little 'raisny' taste that tells me it was over the hill ... and I understand that feeling. If you have this vintage, drink up before you are really disappointed. 'Nuff said! (3284 views)
Tasted by bradfriedlander on 5/27/2014 & rated 89 points: This wine is drinking very well. It takes at least an hour to open up. The Petit Syrah provide a great note in this terrific chord. We paired the wine with fish in a spicy red sauce, roasted cauliflower, sautéed broccoli, and roasted eggplant all with a good dose of garlic. It was a great accompaniment to those flavors. (3616 views)
Tasted by wtianseter on 5/17/2014 & rated 88 points: This is a nice chocolaty and vanilla big fruit blend that gives a full mouth feel and has a nice smooth and slightly sweet oaky finish. We stressed the wine with pizza and chocolate cake and sugary sweet icing and it went ok with everything (3293 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 4/6/2014 & rated 88 points: Normally we would rate Phantoms in the 90+ range, but this one didn't quite match up. It had been stored properly, but just tasted 'tired' ... not a lot on the nose or palate. I've just come to really enjoy the zin+ other blend more. (2894 views)
Tasted by kmicho on 1/31/2014 & rated 90 points: My favorite Bogle. A great balance of fruit, vanilla, and minerality. A nice, complex wine with every penny. (3057 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 1/19/2014 & rated 88 points: Drank during NFC Championship game. no real notes. got better as it opened up. Air is needed for this wine. (2901 views)
Tasted by kmicho on 12/14/2013 & rated 90 points: Phenomenal wine, particularly for the price. Vanilla, berries, very smooth with a nice balance of tannins. Does credit to the Bogle brand. (2541 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 10/31/2013 & rated 87 points: drank while trick or treating. no real notes. was a nice bottle. (3076 views)
Tasted by Beckhams on 8/4/2013 & rated 89 points: bought two bottles two years ago. We were underwhelmed when we opened the first bottle (right away). after sitting for a a year and a half the second bottle was much better. Recommend decanting. (3709 views)
Tasted by jset22 on 7/27/2013 & rated 89 points: Don't know why but this bottle tastes better than my others. Haven't been a massive fan of phantom lately. (3168 views)

Tasted by LadyUma on 4/7/2013 & rated 88 points: The wine looks Purple colored. The legs are Slow. It smells like Plum, and Vanilla. It tastes like Plum, and Black Pepper. The body is Medium/Full. The wine has Round texture. The wine finishes Medium. (3920 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 2/2/2013 & rated 87 points: Dark purple red violet color; baked berry, baked black fruit nose; baked berry, baked black fruit palate; medium finish (935 views)
Tasted by mflesh on 1/20/2013 & rated 90 points: I don't remember being impressed by this bottle last time. This time I let it sit for 18 months before enjoying it, and it paid off tonight. The cork was withdrawn intact, rather dark black stain. Decanted for about 30 minutes. The pour was dark purple. On the nose was plum, an earthy nose, and a hint of blackberry. On the palate was a very dark, full bodied wine. I immediately thought that this was a cab with some age on it (my wife opened it and didn't tell me what she opened). The palate is consistent with aged blackberry, leather, a hint of plum, and some dark chocolate pie. This carried and danced along to the mid-palate. The termination of the mid-palate is where this wine started to show some earthy characteristics and a little bit of that zin blueberry and cedar started to kick in the back, yet still maintained that blackberry backbone that had integrated nicely. The finish was spicy, slightly earthy, and only very mildly tannic. This wine has integrated well, and I think it's truly the right time to drink this one. If you go into this wine thinking you're going to get a fruit bomb or happy-go-lucky zin, you're going to be sorely disappointed. This one drinks like a petite sirah first, with some darker mourvedre characteristics and a zin blueberry spice kick, because that's exactly what it is. Neat little bottle. Drink now or maybe hold another year at most, because time is up when 2015 rolls around. (4605 views)
Tasted by robnmo on 12/20/2012 & rated 87 points: Nice bottle really needs air. opened and let sit for about 30 minutes and ran through the vinturi before each glass. At first the oak was really strong by the end of the bottle the wine was really hitting its stride. Nice dark fruit up front followed by a touch of sweet cherries on the back end. Really nice. (4090 views)
Tasted by Quarked on 10/31/2012 & rated 90 points: Drunk on Halloween of course. Really opened up after 2-3 hours. Dark PS at the front, with bright, fruity zin at the end. Full-bodied, brooding, spicy. A good year for this wine. (4965 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
