Tasted by akaplan on 3/1/2022: The wine is long last it’s time. Donate this one! (673 views)
Tasted by bcolbath on 7/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Last bottle. Still relatively well preserved, unlike other Kistlers of similar age. (So much for Robert Parker touting these as long-term holds -- what a fraud!) I've fallen out of favor with the vineyard; quality seems way off after the sale to the PE company. Go with Rochioli or Littorai. (822 views)
Tasted by JR1575 on 2/22/2020 & rated 87 points: Drink soon.. lush stone fruits.... (1175 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 1/29/2018 & rated 89 points: Rich with deep yellow coloring and pear notes (2178 views)
Tasted by MarkSegal on 10/13/2017 & rated 89 points: Straw yellow. Just a bit passed where I would have loved it. (2563 views)
Tasted by Dberlijn on 8/6/2017 & rated 92 points: Drank on its own in my "Schwiegervater"'s backyard. Golden colour. Despite its age still vibrant and fresh. Buttery, fat, but enough acidity to keep it refined. Reminded us of the 2005 Carbonnieux blanc we drank earlier this afternoon 🤗, but less zesty and more body, butter and substance. (2524 views)
Tasted by theferb on 4/1/2017 & rated 93 points: Still a beautiful wine. Drinking great. Can go another few years. Let it decant. (3132 views)
Tasted by tcarter on 8/12/2016 & rated 93 points: Just wonderful, aged chardonnay. Great stuff. Still in its prime. (3648 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 8/5/2016 flawed bottle: DOA (2835 views)
Tasted by Acohen on 5/27/2016 & rated 92 points: Rich yellow with good citrus, rich flavor and great balance (2739 views)
Tasted by beej on 2/7/2016: A Day Old and drinking well.
Good balance of acid and butter.
Fruit is soft and reminds me of Sauvignon blanc.
Short finish.
None of the trouble my fellow cellar trackers have found.
Guess I got lucky w the draw.
Half hour late, kaboom. Rich, spicy, in your face Cali chard. Still really enjoying this case. (2995 views)
Tasted by beej on 1/20/2016: Great combination of spice and butter. Not over Oaked.
Enjoy now and for a while longer. (2251 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 1/17/2015 & rated 91 points: Deep gold color. Despite some obvious signs of oxidation, the wine still had excellent fruit and acidity and was delicious with my wke's spicy spot prawns. (2602 views)
Tasted by PGB on 7/9/2014 & rated 80 points: This wine has not stood the test of time. Old, brown, and very unpleasant. So then I opened a bottle of the Hudson 04. Same result. And this is not the first time. Then I opened a Kistler "Kistler" vineyard. Still holding its own and mellowing nicely. For whatever reason the 04 and 05 Hudson, Vine Hill and Dutton have a problem. To be safe drink your Kistler Chardonnays in the first 7 years while they still taste great. (3292 views)
Tasted by JBVino on 5/24/2014: solid shape for 9 year old CA chard...good acidity, length solid but secondary flavors were good not outstanding. I think this bottle has a life left... not sure it will get better but could add complexity. (2984 views)
Tasted by sunalsorises on 3/16/2014 & rated 89 points: A bit off in the beginning. Cloudy. Got better with time but not as enjoyable as other 2005s. (2953 views)
Tasted by brianofthevine on 2/15/2014 & rated 93 points: Lemon oil and citrus, lots of minerality here, nice finish. (895 views)
Tasted by lebo9968@gmail.com on 10/11/2013 & rated 80 points: Very disappointing. See my prior note. Time has not been kind to this wine. Nose had new world butterscotch / caramel popcorn immediately upon open, but that quickly faded to just an "aged wine" nose. Not in a complex or elegant way, but in a tired way. Palate really didn't have much flavor to it at all. My note from 3 years ago was "...tasted like water...". Well, now it tastes like old water. This was a wine to be consumed young. Live and learn. Trust YOUR palate! (3481 views)
Tasted by CO_Roots13 on 8/19/2013 & rated 95 points: Deep, rich color. Flint and vanilla on the nose with a slight hint of tropical fruit. Complex palate with pear, vanilla and citrus. Long finish. Excellent wine (3015 views)
Tasted by bonedoc on 6/29/2013 & rated 94 points: Took about 30-45 min to shine. Nose and palate of citrus oil, some brine, and butterscotch notes towards the end. Well balanced. I suspect the fruitily fade w further long-term cellaring, but not for the next few yrs. (2707 views)
Tasted by leadpencil on 6/22/2013 & rated 94 points: Grapefruit, papaya, flint. (2399 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 5/17/2013 & rated 94 points: Same as the 2/2/13 bottle. (2325 views)
Tasted by RJ&JJ on 2/9/2013 & rated 92 points: Incredibly nice Chardonnay... very buttery yet crisp with fruit and balance. (2301 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 2/2/2013 & rated 94 points: The same as the 3/19/11 bottle but just a touch more complex and longer on the palate. (1953 views)
Tasted by JCheek on 2/2/2013 & rated 91 points: vector capital Chardonnay. delicious! (1735 views)

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
