Tasted by johnnyrichardson on 12/27/2023 flawed bottle: Totally oxidised - unfit to drink (209 views)
Tasted by Erik12000 on 1/4/2019: I agree with JohnnyRichardsons comment. The wine was a bit disappointing. (2094 views)
Tasted by Jahull03 on 3/2/2017: in a beautiful spot now, still fresh but not young. bright floral notes - mostly spring herbs, touch of grass (but not grassy like new world SB), light touch of tropical fruits. there's firmness from the semillon, but not weight. wonderful with salmon, cauliflower and citrus salad. (3478 views)
Tasted by chefluilui on 4/14/2016 & rated 86 points: Just open the noise very Tight miduem dry short finish I think have to open around a hour .
After a hour the taste show much more .better with food . (4538 views)
Tasted by johnnyrichardson on 2/13/2016 & rated 88 points: Strangely unbalanced on first pour, took about 20 minutes to come together in the glass (probably served too cold)..white Bordeaux typicity was there, eventually. Didn't blow me away though, not even close to previous Blanc LBs I've had, though I find their reds similarly inconsistent - not cheap either, frankly.. (4651 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 11/9/2014 & rated 91 points: Outstanding nose (A-). Sour palate that improved with time in the glass and food. Nutty finish. (B+ --> B++). (5738 views)
Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 11/9/2014 & rated 92 points: Light medium yellow color; aromatic, maturing, savory, sauteed golden onions, melted butter, reduction nose; tasty, savory, rich, full bodied, oily textured, tart lemon, mineral with medium acidity; medium-plus finish (414 views)
Tasted by oakland.cory on 7/18/2014 flawed bottle: Badly oxidized. Bad storage likely. Low fill, slight signs of seepage. That's what I get for buying sight unseen. (5190 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 12/30/2013 & rated 91 points: This was heavier than I would have expected from a White Bdx. Still outstanding though (if you like the style like I do) (4338 views)
Tasted by EirikM on 8/24/2013 & rated 84 points: I was quite disappointed with this wine. Dominant oak and vegetal notes on the nose, although there's a lot going on underneath in form of nuts, grapefruit, dried apricots and some minerality. Intriguing more than convincing so far.

On the palate the wine also seems somewhat disjointed. The oak isn't very well integrated and together with the greenness and high acidity it leaves me with an impression of a wine that is lacking focus and precision. The fruit is support cast at best and the finish actually borders on being bitter.

Not worth the money in other words. (3990 views)
Tasted by P&F on 7/2/2013 & rated 91 points: We agree with Beezer quite a lot. Rand is as confused as he, my jury is a little more definitive. Nose with a little beeswax, more green and sauvignon-blanc like than tropical or peachy; palate is thin and faint at first but opens up into slight herbaciousness, with that acidity closing in at the end. It's long and pleasant (Rand says, in contrast, that "stemmy" is the word to use). Chewable. Don't know if I'd buy again for the money. (4089 views)

Tasted by rjonwine@gmail.com on 7/15/2012 & rated 93 points: White Bordeaux and Red Graves Themed Euro Lunch (Donato Enoteca, Redwood City, California): Light medium yellow color; very appealing, mineral, savory, preserved lemon, oily, white truffle nose; tasty, tart lemon, preserved lemon, mineral palate with tension and refreshing medium acidity; medium-plus finish 93+ points (2193 views)
Tasted by europat55 on 7/15/2012 & rated 91 points: White & Red Graves Themed Euro Lunch (Donato Enoteca, Redwood City, CA): Light yellow. Some funk in the nose. Crisp, refreshing. (3890 views)
Tasted by beezer6 on 4/14/2012 & rated 90 points: Saturday Tasting Group (Knightsbridge Wine Shop (Northbrook, IL)): Big rich butter and apples and peach fuzz with tangerine. Cotton with fresh linen. The palate is not nearly as rich as the nose lets on.
Oddly lighter with a huge acidic back end. Maybe not enough body for me. Not sure what to think really.
The nose screams New World Chardonnay - odd. Palate is just confusing - light almost watery. Green and stemmy qualities. Lots of sulfur too. (4599 views)
Tasted by Yiannis on 1/8/2012 & rated 89 points: Medium straw. Beeswax, honey, lime and some tropical scents with noticeable greenness. Medium-bodied with high acidity and a long but somewhat vegetal aftertaste. (4329 views)
Tasted by willthethrill on 9/13/2011 & rated 89 points: Tight. Acidic start. Minerally. Balanced. Not dull, but no wow. (4923 views)
Tasted by emkc on 3/20/2011 & rated 95 points: From a 375cl. Nice wine! Great nose of pineapple and oak. A great balance of acidity, sweetness and oak. Complex finish. (4188 views)
Tasted by khmark7 on 9/13/2010: I thought this was pretty good. Nice acidity and nutty character. 87-90 rating. (4145 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 6/30/2010 & rated 90 points: Nice simple Bordeaux blanc. Crisp acidity with honeyed ripe musky melon notes on finish. This will probably gain some additional complexity over the short term. OK value at $30. (4265 views)
Tasted by ATBridge on 5/4/2010: Tight and heavy oak. Decent underlying fruit and acidity. Hold for another year or two. (4658 views)
Tasted by johnnyrichardson on 1/1/2010 & rated 88 points: Very tight, lots of citrus, opens out very nicely but not quite enough yet - I do think a year or two of cellaring will benefit this wine. (4433 views)
Tasted by wineaux2 on 5/24/2009: I guess I'm an outlier here, but for me, this wine was an utter disappointment. Basically, you could soak an unripe lemon wedge in a glass of water and get the same experience. Drank this slowly and with food hoping it would evolve into something respectable, but no such luck. Bought from K&L at the $40 discounted price, but this wine isn’t even worth ¼ that amount. As the saying goes, time heals all wounds – can’t imagine time will improve this wine – but, perhaps I will be able to forget this horrible experience and willingly drink Bordeaux blanc again. (4652 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 5/12/2009: Robert Chadderdon Selections (Denver, CO): I think I'd have to agree with sdr's notes, in general. The Chateau de Seuil I tasted right before it is a much better value. However, the nose on this is really engaging in a white-wine-does-sous-bois kinda way. Terribly original. Long finish, approx $65, drink thru 2014 (8610 views)
Tasted by slywka7 on 5/8/2009 & rated 90 points: Citrus, and melon. Not nearly as complex as either Smith-Haut Lafitte wine but a fine wine nonetheless. Very snappy and refreshing. Didn't taste any oak. (1705 views)

Château Lynch-Bages

Vineyard map

BACKGROUND: The wine of Château Lynch-Bages is part of the lineage of the great Pauillac wines. Blended mostly from Cabernet Sauvignon, it combines structure and finesse, elegance and longevity. It is further distinguished by its opulence. Generous right from its youth, it develops more flavours and greater complexity as it matures.

The affirmation of the Lynch-Bages style came with the arrival of Jean-Charles Cazes to head the estate in 1934. An innovative winemaker, emblematic of a new generation of owners willing to break with tradition and taking risks to ensure truly ripe harvests, he was known for often being the last to harvest in Pauillac. From 1945 onwards, the fame of the château emerged thanks to a series of great vintages. Some, despite being considered difficult to grow in Bordeaux, are particularly successful at Lynch-Bages. His wines are characterized by their deep colour, their tannic structure, their controlled concentration and elegant sensuality. The vintages vinified by André Cazes, and after him Jean-Michel Cazes, confirm this trend.

The style of the wines has refined over the years, gaining suppleness and softness, whilst their consistency has been established over time. Then as now, Château Lynch-Bages has been characterised by its extraordinary qualitative homogeneity. Powerful, elegant and open, vintage after vintage, the wine has acquired greater accuracy, adding distinction to the hedonistic character that made its reputation.

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
