Tasted by Bob23 on 1/20/2023 & rated 92 points: Still has vibrant acidity and nice dark fruit. Maybe not the most remarkable bottle I’ve ever had, but still going strong at 20. Impressive. (831 views)
Tasted by nlassow on 6/12/2022 & rated 93 points: Our final bottle. Decanted 30min. This is still very youthful in both appearance and character. No formal notes but wife and I were more than satisfied. (1151 views)
Tasted by kfran24 on 4/20/2022 & rated 90 points: I don’t know exactly how well this bottle was treated over the last 19 years since I bought online, but it felt a little over the hill for me. This is my 4th or 5th bottle of ‘03 Corison in the last couple years and I thought the previous ones were all great. Bottom line I feel this is too basic of a wine to push 20+ yrs. 10-15 yrs in its prime, but doesn’t get better after that (1201 views)
Tasted by klezman on 4/10/2022: This was fantastic. Had this next to a 2018 Opus One and the two couldn't be more different (even accounting for age). In a lovely place, as expected, and this went brilliantly with dry aged rib roast. (1967 views)
Tasted by bobadopolis on 10/22/2021 & rated 90 points: Great out of the bottle. Decanted, then consumed over 2-3 hours. Last glass was a bit on the pruney side, suspect over exposure to air with a relatively fragile bottle. Would recommend pop and pour or decant with caution. (1394 views)
Tasted by bobadopolis on 5/16/2021 & rated 92 points: Brief decant then delicious (1144 views)
Tasted by lovanc@outlook.com on 8/9/2020: This is obviously a well made wine. Just too fruit forward for my tastes. (75 views)
Tasted by DrakkarNoir on 7/16/2020: 13.6% abv. Currants, a bit of plum on the nose. Nice acidity on the finish, a bit of tannic grip still. (1457 views)
Tasted by AlanM68 on 7/4/2020 flawed bottle: A magnum ... very badly corked. (1419 views)
Tasted by ChickenNoodle on 6/22/2020 & rated 92 points: Excellent. Needs time to open but excellent structure. Black fruits very pronounced. (1409 views)
Tasted by jyoungy on 2/28/2019 & rated 93 points: I must have opened a pristine bottle because at 16 years, this was a fantastic showing. Color of deep ruby, with just the slightest hint of aging on the edges. On the nose - classic cabernet, but very refined as Corisons usually are.. tobacco, sweet purple plum, blackberries, hint of pepper, and tomato leaf in the warm summer sun. On the palate - sweet plum, licorice, a hint of green pepper & cherry. Classy and beautiful, plenty of fruit left. If my 2 remaining bottles are in as good a condition, I probably won't open my third for a long time. (1932 views)
Tasted by wineshlub on 12/25/2018 & rated 93 points: Opened one hour in advance. Aroma of cherry and ash. Clean, pure flavors of cherry, cassis. Tobacco notes in the finish. Beautiful, classic Napa cabernet. (1943 views)
Tasted by KAL47 on 5/5/2018 & rated 90 points: Raisin, prune on the bouquet. Light texture with fruity, spicy flavor with clove and cardamon. $385 for 1.5 L at winery. (2405 views)
Tasted by albrigsr on 2/11/2018 & rated 91 points: Garnet color, tannins integrated well. Less fruit but still could age if demsired but drinking well now. (2569 views)
Tasted by costacasa on 10/2/2017 & rated 93 points: Drinking beautifully right now. Amazingly vibrant and smooth. This wine is proof that a time machine doesn't exist...because if it did, every single bottle would have been purchased the day it was released. IMHO this wine has improved in the past year. (3105 views)
Tasted by PolarBear22 on 9/3/2017 & rated 92 points: Still going great. Decanted about an hour. Tasted along side a 2002. Both were very similar. Great nose. Dark fruits still strong on the palate with a nice finish. Just a great wine. (copied notes from the 2002 review.) (2551 views)
Tasted by Parnelli on 7/29/2017 & rated 89 points: My bad ... let it age too long. After an hour decant, the wine is a brick red ... yes, a brown tinge. The nose is subtle ... earth/leather more than dark fruit. The wine at this age drinks pretty well on it's own ... doesn't need food to enjoy it. It went well with the filet, but in it's younger days, this would have been wonderful. (2629 views)
Tasted by phynes on 5/12/2017 & rated 92 points: Drinking well now. (2454 views)
Tasted by theguy on 5/9/2017 & rated 92 points: Well balanced and flavorful Cab with a relatively low alcohol level. (2388 views)
Tasted by ChickenNoodle on 11/28/2016 & rated 89 points: Cracked cork may have affected slightly but very pungent nose dark red fruits and tastes of blueberry and cocoa. Starting to fade however. (2455 views)
Tasted by costacasa on 11/13/2016 & rated 90 points: This wine continues to age gracefully. Let it open up over a few hours. Very well balanced. Elegant with a medium long finish. Wonderful nuances, such as pepper, now that the tannins have faded significantly. 5 years ago, this was a beautiful food wine. Now, I like it better on it's own. (2389 views)
Tasted by CalypsoPoet on 11/3/2016 & rated 89 points: Muted at this time, with a drinking window of 2011-2016, I should have drank this a few years ago. Still a fine cab, though not the Corison it was a few years ago. Would have been a 91-92 cab had I drank 3 years ago. A fine Corison representation, though definitely over the hill at this point.
The wine looks garnet colored. The legs are medium. There is heavy sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, red currant and flint. The body is light/medium. The wine has smooth texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has low acidity. (2261 views)
Tasted by 10centpower on 9/1/2016: Not much going on right now, may be closed off for a few years. (2411 views)
Tasted by bdlsmoran on 2/3/2016 & rated 92 points: It is in a great place right now! Could hold for another year or two but why wait. (3290 views)
Tasted by merryberry on 12/19/2015 & rated 93 points: Deep purple with just the slightest tinge of bricking. Blueberry, violets, baking spice, and cedar nose. Medium bodied, blackberries, black cherries, smoke, well integrated tannins, dark chocolate, and a long satisfying finish. Better than 5 years ago, I think its entered its prime of life. (2777 views)

Corison

Producer website

Corison Winery is located just south of the town of St. Helena in the upper Napa Valley. They are on the west side of Highway 29, about a quarter mile north of Zinfandel Lane, at 987 St. Helena Highway, Saint Helena, CA 94574.

Cabernet Sauvignon

Cabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.

Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet Sauvignon

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
