Tasted by acyso on 10/10/2020 & rated 90 points: Saturday riesling and farewell (Chicago, IL): Surprisingly fresh and green for a wine of such age, with vibrant acidity throughout, though the palate is where this seems to fall a little flat, as it comes across a little simple, without too much depth of flavour. In particular, I have always felt CFE is a heavyset version of the Trimbach wines, and this bottle seems to buck that trend. In any case, I'd be inclined to drink up, at least based on this bottle.  Tasted by acyso on 8/8/2018 & rated 93 points: Trimbach etc. at S.K.Y. (Chicago, IL): An incredible bottle of CFE -- very much old riesling matured perfectly. There's plenty of gasoline aromas and flavours, but coupled with some dried fruits. This clearly shows its age, but the broadness of this cuvee is now very nicely integrated with the rest of the elements here, especially the secondary fruit and the acidity. There's a great bit of spice here as well that adds a lot of complexity. Lucked out on this one -- this was a bottle in spectacular condition. (2452 views)
Tasted by acyso on 10/24/2017 & rated 90 points: Anne Trimbach at Table, Donkey and Stick (Chicago, IL): A really lovely bottle of aged dry riesling. The nose has a little bit of funk to it, in that there's a touch of animale here. The palate has a really nice richness to it, with a little bit of sweetness that evokes a feinherb style. It's got a heavier body, but a nice bit of acidity to round it out. (2439 views)
Tasted by CamWheeler on 9/1/2017 flawed bottle: GMs - Casual Fridays September 2017: Corked. (1964 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 8/5/2017 & rated 92 points: Another Saturday at Chevalier...Mostly Blind (Chicago, IL): Mature apple and pear with savory spice in spades. petrol hints and stony minerality. Very long, wonderfully balanced. (2122 views)
Tasted by psmith on 8/5/2017 & rated 91 points: I've had a few bottles now from the single source I bought these at, and this was probably the best one. Classic Trimbach petrol and mineral; just very well put together. Has an agelessness about it where it's gained a weighty textural quality but isn't showing any indication of tipping into cidery or otherwise oxidized flavors. There's nothing particularly show-stopping about this other than those factors, but still a very solid, fairly singular wine in a good place. (1895 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 11/18/2016 & rated 90 points: Neb-fest: Nebbiolo & Truffle Dinner (Chicago, IL): Cork may not have had a perfect seal. But the wine was quite youthful none-the-less. The fruit here was still fresh and bright. Not a ton of depth/complexity, as this doesn't really show any of those diesel-y notes I usually find in older Riesling. Even still this is an enjoyable and pure expression of dry Riesling. (2199 views)
Tasted by psmith on 11/7/2016 & rated 90 points: Leaking bottle, with a cork that wasn't holding and dropped right in with pressure. Still, youthful bright color. All petrol on the nose. Some white pepper notes with a touch of citrus. Good length and body, though cracks up a bit on the finish when initially served a bit warm. Solid, and will look forward to my other bottles.  Tasted by andtheodor on 5/23/2016: Hard for me to get into; low-ish acidity, very modest sweetness. Like kerosene poured on a cardboard box and a grating of lime zest on top. Immaculate bottle, cork, and fill. Not corked but not the energy I'd expect. (2123 views)
Tasted by blanquito on 5/13/2016 & rated 92 points: This was a controversial wine, but I really liked it. Musty at first, but this blew off to reveal a bouquet with ridiculous levels of petrol/kerosene, and additional nuances of almonds, lime, and ginger. The palate was silky and showed surprisingly little acidity, but I loved the ginger spiciness, the lime zest, and the sherry-like bitterness. Got better deeper into the bottle, with fantastic length too. Certainly not your average wine-- rather, a singular, complex and special one. (1711 views)
Tasted by BradKNYC on 6/8/2013: Mucho vino at the 15th annual birthday jeebus. (Joe's.): A really beautiful showing as the wine revealed perfect balance, great intensity and length, mature notes as well as freshness. Typically FE with its lime and mineral profile buttressed by stone fruits. It has picked up some petrol notes. The fruit shows nice ripeness and lends a savory quality while the wine remains dry. More, please. Solid A-. (4519 views)
Tasted by BigWineMan on 12/26/2010 & rated 92 points: Very nice bottle of Riesling. Excellent acid balance and complexity. Nice structure and density. Color is gold with still a touch of green on the edges. Nose is somewhat muted but some wet slate is coming through with a touch of citrus and petrol. On the palate, apricots, tangerines, apples, and orange zest mix with really spectacular minerality, and even a little chalkiness. Finish is complex and lengthy, and dominated by citrus. Very, very nice wine. (3281 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 10/26/2010: – this had a bit of a fill issue, but a similar fill from same source was stellar earlier this year. This, however, was not stellar, but instead dying. NR (3328 views)
Tasted by DaleW on 6/14/2010: I was a bit worried about this one, good color but some ullage. But shows well, if anything a little tight at first- my favorite sip was a revisit with the cheese! Ripe apples, plenty of petrol, a bit minerally. Full on palate, with a bit of an oily edge. Good acidity (though not really as high as most CFEs). Long, complete at the end of meal. Of course, I'm always a sucker for CFE! A- (3085 views)
Tasted by cct on 1/31/2010 & rated 91 points: (FROM 375) Light golden in color, with a smoky almost kerosene presence, with some lemon zest. RIch and yet finely balanced with great rich, yet lithe texture, if maybe a touch thinning at this age and blle size. Very similar to the Frank with white fruit/ almost bean like vegetables as the primary fruitiness along with lemon rind. Really great mix of texture, acid and flesh. A lovely savory and complicated wine that cuts a clean swath on the palate. Very refreshing. Beautiful. I wish I would hold my younger vintages for 20 years. Not much luck of that tough. (3202 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 12/30/2008 & rated 92 points: Golden, amber, honeyed colour.
Nose was sweet, floral, stone river bed.
Palate was smoothe, honey suckle, great minerality and sweetness well integrated. (2097 views)
