Better on the palate though, with apple and subtle butterscotch flavors. Not oxidized, but quite mature. It feels like half or more of the Kistlers we've opened show more advanced than they should, but man when you get a good bottle it's really good. (2032 views)
 Tasted by mflesh on 3/23/2018: I think that there is some bottle variation here. Last week I had the luck to try this wine, and two weeks in a row I had the chance to try this wine again. This bottle was not as 'elegant' as the last bottle. There was less fruit, less acidity, less oak......compared to a Kistler Chard Dutton of the same year, this one lost the battle IMO, although I think it was a 50/50 split for those who tried it. I think that I was expecting this one to be as roundedd as the bottle that we tried last week, and this one simply didn't hoild up the same way. Good notes, definitely more of a pineapple but really without that citrus bite. Overripe honeydew and mango are more the note here. Not as much minerality, not as 'dried' on the finish. Nice wine....wouldn't kick it out of bed for sure. But if you have some of these, it's time to start poppin' some corks! (1866 views)

This one definitely did have some butter, not overdone IMO. Very balanced Chardonnay that is kicking some tail right now. (1660 views)

Richness in color and on the nose was confirmed on the palate. Impeccable balance across the palate leading to a long and consistent finish. A “ wow” wine among the guests. (1571 views)

Lemon and citrus notes with underlying apple and toast qualities. Bright- none of the overly nutty/oxidative tones these can have as they age. A nice kiss of oak on the palate along with the orchard fruit and lemon notes. Long, balanced finish. Absolutely gorgeous. (2045 views)

This is quite nice. The wood has receded and is now integrated into an wine that shows good balance between fruit, wood, acid and tannin. (1388 views)

 Tasted by UTPK on 4/25/2016: Muted and strange to start with, needed 24 hours in decanter to normalise and open up. Fairly dark yellow, a bit cloudy. Nice, restrained nose of peach, pineapple, rubber and salmiak. Lean attack, with some sweetness shining through, but this has really shed all its babyfat, and is now in a mature phase. Somehow, I think I like them younger. (2115 views)

I'm concluding that the Kistler single vyd Chards are best either upon release, or laid down for at least this long. This was very light straw yellow and a bit cloudy, as you've come to expect from no filtration. Wonderful, playful nose of lemon zest and stone. The oak has really integrated, so the mouth is still lush, but more subtle with just a tinge of honeysuckle sweetness. (2178 views)

Deep gold in color, nose of tropical fruit, medium to heavy bodied, oaky caramel & pineapple, long finish. Not a particularly elegant wine, but has many enjoyable elements. (2350 views)

Attending their wine dinner next week, I thought I would get a head start! 2008 here - I just can't decide if you're supposed to drink these as young as possible, or really let them age? Very pale straw color, clearly unfiltered. Very subtle nose of sweet, yellow fruit (almost muted). Lovely balance on the attack, but it quickly gets awkward/funky mid-palate. I thought it might just be me, so I tried it again Night Two - less funky, but still present. Amazing how mixed one's experience can be, all within the same taste! Simply bottle variation? Big on the palate--in fact much heavier, more viscous than I expected. Lots of sweet, tart pineapple up front, along with some pear & some toast. Fairly long though not particularly complex or well structured. Not really what I expected from this bottle in that it had somewhat of a sledgehammer quality to it, but still enjoyable with our lobsters. (3041 views)

Banana, coconut, vanilla and toast on the palate with lemon/citrus tones on the long finish. One taster suggested Corton Charlemagne before settling on a Peter Michael Chardonnay. (Winery's Tasting Note) 2008 Kistler Vineyard
Green-tinged yellow. High-toned aromas of white peach and spring flowers, but with a
distinct mineral underpinning. Wonderfully dense and sweet but with great precision,
this seamless, expansive wine conveys an impression of great volume without undue
weight. Stone-fruit and mineral elements blossom in the mouth. Finishes with a subtle
perfume so characteristic of the Mt. Eden clone grown on a rocky mountain site.

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

Sonoma County, California, is one of the most important winegrowing regions in the whole of the United States. Vines have been planted here since the 1850s and, apart from the inevitable hiatus brought about by Prohibition, the county's relationship with wine has been prolific and unbroken.

Viticulturally speaking, Sonoma County is divided into three distinct sections: Sonoma Valley, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. Each of these has its own AVA title and encompasses several sub-AVAs within its boundaries.
