Community Tasting Notes (average 89.9 pts. and median of 90 pts. in 302 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Ellenkf on 6/20/2023 & rated 89 points: Jammy fruit, mostly black and blue, and a saucy texture. There’s plenty of elegance and a balanced power, however I think this will not see and better days. (270 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 6/10/2023 & rated 93 points: incredible that this wine has aged and done so with such grace. A bit more than a pop and pour, opened for an hour plus before first sip. It is a wonderful wine seeming far more fresh and alive than one would ever have imagined. Fruit absolutely bright and intact, more toward red berries. Floral notes. Very clean and fresh with no hint of funk or falling apart. Likely good for another five years. (232 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 1/30/2023 & rated 93 points: At this age this wine is smoking good. One would expect it to be basic... yet it really stands out as a great Zinfandel (366 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 9/22/2021 & rated 93 points: Some would say this is one of their lesser wines. I can only say that it has aged gracefully and far and away exceeded our expectations. (992 views)
Tasted by Ed B on 5/20/2021 & rated 92 points: “Juvenile” has been around for decades, so this wine could be called “Old Vines.” PnP and drank over 2 hours. No detailed notes. Initially, cranberry w/ tart cherry and some spice. But it morphed over time; at one point cherry w/ raspberry and hints of cranberry. A serious wine at a modest price. (1111 views)
Tasted by goldgarf on 4/11/2021 & rated 86 points: Over the hill a bit, but nice berry flavors. (1001 views)
Tasted by ocfriday on 3/30/2021 & rated 83 points: Found this one at the bottom of my locker - oops. Nose was earthy, fruit was gone/muted. (1021 views)
Tasted by goldgarf on 9/7/2020: Decent but on its downside. Jammy, but not tons of flavor (1047 views)
Tasted by Senso-beak on 4/8/2020 & rated 88 points: Opened and poured. Still fairly youthful, with zingy zinberry qualities and reds. Acidity is good. Lacking some depth and second level flavors. Day two under vac-u-viin this has turned a bit, so I would recommend drinking in one session. (1020 views)
Tasted by pyrat40 on 10/12/2019 & rated 87 points: Unfortunately, this bottle was over the hill. I suspect it would have been quite good a year or two ago. It was still red, not brown, but had lost its fruit and just didn't have much going on. Note to self: drink Juveniles younger! (1174 views)
Tasted by BGK810 on 6/2/2019 & rated 90 points: Dark fruit, herbs and spice. Still tasting out very nicely. (1272 views)
Tasted by ocfriday on 12/10/2018 & rated 88 points: Drinking very well, gentle fruit and berries, light on the back end. (1748 views)
Tasted by clutj on 10/21/2018 & rated 89 points: High QPM (1618 views)
Tasted by MJMorris55 on 10/4/2018 & rated 89 points: Typical Juvenile, dusty, plum, rhubarb nose. The color was a tad cloudy, reddish purple. This zin is nicely integrated and smooth, flavors of grapes plum, dark fruit and wood notes. Easy to drink, paired with a lemony garlic oven baked chicken thighs, rice pilaf and roasted broccoli and cauliflower. A nice Turley value wine. (1423 views)
Tasted by West Coast Wine on 4/18/2018 & rated 91 points: Clear, dark ruby color with no real signs of age in the glass. Stored in cellar since release. Spice box, pine, dried violets, dark fruit on the nose. Med+ body, med acid. Still feels young would guess 3-4 years old. Spice, plums, a little oak and alcohol but integrates well. Drinking good right now and still has 2-3 years if stored properly. Not a overly jammy or fruity zin but has some weight. Great value if you can find some. (1898 views)
Tasted by silbakor on 1/28/2018 & rated 90 points: Still drinking shockingly well for a 7-year-old $22 bottle of wine.
Plenty of fruit, spice, pepper; nicely balanced acidity and a pleasantly medium-length finish. (1838 views)
Tasted by MJMorris55 on 12/17/2017 & rated 90 points: Another tasty Turley Juvenile Zinfandel. Hint of brick on the edges, fairly muted nose. Smooth, not-too-jammy, flavors of black raspberries, currants. Always a crowd pleaser! (1740 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 10/12/2017 & rated 90 points: Better the first day and after being given some air time. Still okay but loses more of its fruit after being opened for a serial tasting over a few days and becomes less well balanced. (2184 views)
Tasted by rustyRudy on 10/8/2017 & rated 92 points: Light purple. Baking spice, plum, baked apples, minerals on the nose. Well aged with crisp red fruit, strawberry, red raspberry and some cherry. Not heavy nor over extracted. There is a hint of pepper on the finish. I personally think that this has improved with age. Better balance. (2147 views)
Tasted by DavilaDC on 8/27/2017 & rated 87 points: Strawberries and black tea are all over this flavor profile to the point that this wine just can't be enjoyed without food. (1643 views)
Tasted by hoops92 on 8/19/2017 & rated 87 points: Good, not great. A bit hot, fruit is present but not enough to counteract the heat. Seems a bit unbalanced, particularly mid-palate. Finish is relatively short for Turley as well. (1481 views)
Tasted by silbakor on 7/30/2017 & rated 90 points: Drinking pretty wonderfully right now. Loads of pepper and classic zin aromatics. A bit short on the mid-palate, but still lovely balance. (1545 views)
Tasted by Ridgerunner on 1/28/2017 & rated 91 points: This wine often outscores itself! (1930 views)
Tasted by nicholasoh8 on 12/26/2016 & rated 92 points: Excellent. Very smooth with a light peppery tone. Great depiction of a Zin. Drinking in its prime. (1924 views)
Tasted by jonahfactor on 11/26/2016: Following two dud bottles of 2011 Juvenile, one of which was likely corked, this one was in beautiful shape. Spicy nose with Asian spices, cedar, apricots and dark fruits on the palate. The flavors fan out and culminate in a lusty, dusty finish. Sure to please both the hedonist and the snob. Well done, especially for an entry-level offering. Probably has 1-2 years left. (= Worth Seeking Out) (1892 views)

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
