Community Tasting Notes (average 92.3 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 119 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by jusdavi on 3/3/2024 & rated 93 points: really enjoyed, dark honey colored, sweet and very good. (428 views)
Tasted by VDLT Wine on 9/27/2023: I liked the fruit and the flavors but there was a near dearth of acidity. So, it could play only one note that tired quickly. My conclusion is that this was a result of the vintage's intense heat rather than age. (1038 views)
Tasted by Javachip on 7/29/2023 & rated 91 points: Medium honey-gold hue. Notes of spun sugar, toasted marshmallow, allspice, honey, apricot syrup. Very nice. Group's SECOND PLACE among white wines tonight. (846 views)
Tasted by Cyunker on 2/3/2023: Slightly oxidized. Well past its prime. (1434 views)
Tasted by oldwines on 5/29/2022 & rated 94 points: I had coravined a couple small glasses from this bottle 2 months ago and then opened it 2 weeks ago for a small taste but not taken any notes. This evening I pulled the bottle from the refrigerator to have with a dessert of fresh strawberries, whipped cream and an apple caramel cake. The wine was delicious with it. It was a brilliant, medium to dark golden yellow color. The nose was rather explosive with ripe stone fruit, floral notes of various kinds and a distinct honey caramel. All of these also showed through on the palate as well. Others have noted a lack of acidity, but I didn’t sense that this was out of balance at all. Classic Baumard Quarts de Chaume, I think the long slow aeration in the refrigerator did it well. A fortuitous accident. But instructive. Exquisite! (2162 views)
Tasted by yipen on 1/2/2022: Golden, Honey note, not much acidity. not bad for a sweet one but I think it did not live to its reputation (2056 views)
Tasted by acyso on 10/3/2021 & rated 85 points: Vinetasters: 2001 Châteauneuf-du-Pape et al. (Skokie, IL): Served double blind. The theme of the tasting had me think this was a Beaumes de Venise, but this maybe didn't quite have the aromaticity that I would expect. Slightly wooly and dirty on the nose, this is clearly a sweet wine (in contrast to the wine next to it) but also shows a distinct lack of acidity. (2930 views)
Tasted by Strohecker on 12/6/2020: There was some leakage around the foil, which may have accounted for the oxidative quality of the wine. Some lovely dried apricots and peach aromas with apple layered in. Medium acidity with a little cloy in the sugar. A nice treat, but a touch old and oxidated. (2023 views)
Tasted by Rich S on 12/30/2018 & rated 90 points: Dark golden color. Nice concentration of flavor but missing a little acid for me and the finish is not as long. Still, a very nice wine but I preferred the 2004 vintage. (3953 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 12/26/2018 flawed bottle: Oxidized (3010 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 11/12/2018 & rated 94 points: Still very fresh and fairly pale. Developing aromas of peach. Gorgeous. Lots of time in hand. (2693 views)
Tasted by JJYoyo on 8/19/2018 & rated 92 points: Nose of honeycomb, pansies, yeast and a touch of petrol. Taste had a very pleasant and distinct edge of sourdough on top of honey and a little honeydew melon. Seems fully mature, and does not show a lot of obvious signs of the torrid vintage.
Score : 92. Relative to expectations: + (2888 views)
Tasted by A&B on 6/16/2018 & rated 95 points: Amazing wine, aged beautifully, amber in color, honey, stonefruit, toasted almond, great texture. Wonderful to drink by itself or to fois gras and pate's (2904 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 6/14/2018 & rated 93 points: UWS; A mixed set of wines (@ JB): Golden yellow. Beautiful bouquet with honey and apricots. Same on the palate. Sweet pineapple, butter candy. Beautiful balance between acidity and sweetness and a good length. (2009 views)
Tasted by kstoddard on 4/17/2018 flawed bottle: Corked (2674 views)
Tasted by wirelesswine on 11/5/2017 & rated 94 points: Crazy good stuff! Honey, salted caramel, creme brulee....balanced and bets for the next sip. Couldn't be beat with homemade apple pie. (2928 views)
Tasted by pilot360 on 4/15/2017: Totally enjoyable wine, full bodied, balanced with honey and nuttiness. Great sweetness matched with acidity. Very good. (3925 views)
Tasted by ScottPreston on 12/26/2016 & rated 94 points: Honeycomb, nutty. Went perfectly with cheese. (4019 views)
Tasted by Scott McDonald on 8/29/2016 flawed bottle: Corked (4469 views)
Tasted by SimonS on 8/26/2016 & rated 93 points: Impressively young. Limpid straw colour. Sweet but a lemon aspect alongside barley sugar. (3797 views)
Tasted by Nanda on 5/16/2016 & rated 92 points: Wine & Chinese on a Monday Night (Sun Wah BBQ, Chicago, IL): Full nose of sweet honeyed pear and apple fruit. Good acidity and brightness on the palate cuts the ripe, sweet profile. Good balance and length. No over-heated or over-ripe notes you might expect with a 2003. (4735 views)
Tasted by Cmainardi on 11/27/2015 & rated 95 points: Spectacular. Bracing acidity, pear, Apple, stones and honey - did i mention sugar? Served with dessert on Thanksgiving (3915 views)
Tasted by kylerogers on 10/10/2015 & rated 94 points: Appearance: Deep golden color, but I think less from age and more from RS.

Nose: Significant honey and apricots, pear, apple cider, candied pineapple

Palate: Honey, caramelized Banana (not on the nose but prominent on the palate), pineapple, rich apricots.

Heavy body, deliciously smooth and creamy. (3818 views)
Tasted by Paul D on 9/25/2015: Burgundy WIMPS (La Trompette, Chiswick): Pale/medium gold. Ripe Apple, sweet spices, touch of honey, lovely creamy texture, lovely clarity, decent acidity, very good length finish. Lovely, if not really a match for the pud! **** (3893 views)
Tasted by pifcho on 3/18/2015 & rated 92 points: Opened it and based on my previous experiences I poured some out and let it stay in the fridge for 3 nights. Very precise and tasty over nights 4-6. Not at the level of the '96-'97 or the '02, but an excellent bottle of wine nonetheless. (4339 views)
