Community Tasting Notes (average 94.2 pts. and median of 95 pts. in 33 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by jlm on 5/8/2021: Deep gold to light amber. Spectacular nose of dried fruits, fig, honey, camomile. Viscous but fresh, dense but light. Endless finish. Wonderful wine. (1525 views)
Tasted by wayfarer on 12/25/2020 & rated 94 points: Delicious, bright, deep, long, intense apricot, tropical fruit, peach, sweet, good acidity, lightly viscous but very clean and balanced. One bottle, wish I had more as it seems it has a long life ahead. (1541 views)
Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 12/22/2019 & rated 95 points: Last bottle and still works magic. Intense sweet apricot and tropical fruit with a long finish. 12 years old and balanced but given the acidity you wouldn’t know it. Drink now and for the next 10 years easily. Excellent. 95+ (2275 views)
Tasted by tendring on 10/25/2019: Noble rot.
Most delicious. (1497 views)
Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 8/25/2019 & rated 95 points: Similar notes as last time. Paired well with our apricot tart. Epic wine. Would agree with some other tasters notes this is more “Sauternes like”. (2171 views)
Tasted by Lord of the Bottles on 8/4/2019 & rated 95 points: Dark gold with a hint of copper. A wallop of apricot marmelade followed by orange marmalade, pineapple, honeysuckle, and honey with a hint of musk on the nose. Insanely long finish I lost track after a minute. Has years to go. A good match with our garlic prawns and as the wine is not cloying or syrupy it is fairly versatile (not just a dessert wine). (1210 views)
Tasted by grapist on 7/16/2019 & rated 93 points: Dessert wine after a tasting event of 2002 Champagnes. Enjoyed by all. A bit of caramel with the honey. Not too sweet or cloying. I'll buy again. (971 views)
Tasted by CMN on 3/13/2017: Bright yellow colored with a tropical nose. Pineapple, pineapple, honey, pineapple, honey, pineapple, passion fruit, honey and pineapple. Did I say pineapple? Super concentrated flavors with just enough acidity to keep the wine from being cloying. This wine is flat out delicious. While it's still a baby, certainly drinkable now and should easily last for another 2+ decades. (2648 views)
Tasted by UTPK on 11/14/2016: Deep yellow. Pungent nose of white truffles, decayed apples, tropical fruits and some smoke. FUll of botrytis and more concentrated than older vintages from 2002 and back. Seems like Baumard has changed the style, which is also apparent in the Papillon from the same vintage. Full bodied and unctuous, however with good balance due to the chenin blanc strong acidity. This one can hammer the sweetest dessert. Went very well with Tarte Tatin. (2302 views)
Tasted by rlove on 7/10/2015 & rated 93 points: Light gold. Nose of nectarine, apricot, and mango. Suave flavors of honeyed apricot in the mouth. With a touch more acidity, this would be a rockstar. Drink now through 2040. (3623 views)
Tasted by Billigan on 11/28/2014 & rated 95 points: A riot of tropical fruit, including mangoes, guava, and passion fruit. Beautiful streak of acidity provides pitch-perfect balance. Tremendous. (4057 views)
Tasted by acyso on 7/31/2014 & rated 93 points: Tasting with Florent Baumard (Chicago, IL): The nose on this one had a very strong black tea component, but a bit less of the fruit and spice on the '08. This is also sweeter and less acidic than the '08. A bit dialed down, this doesn't have quite the same freshness, but shows off its botrytis much more prominently. (3889 views)
Tasted by tooch on 7/31/2014 & rated 92 points: The Wines of Florent Baumard (Domaine Wine Storage - Chicago, IL): A hair below the 2008...the flavors were all there, but the acidity was a touch less prominent. Just shows how important acidity is in keeping a wine balanced. (5146 views)
Tasted by juffer on 1/12/2014 & rated 91 points: I served this in my wine course. Nose of ginger and mango. Long spicy finish. Is that heat on the finish? I wouldn't have expected it at 12% abv. Interestingly, this did not show well at all next to a Hexamer Beerenauslese and a Huet vouvray (constance). It was striking how much more like a Sauternes the Baumard seemed (alcohol and spice to balance the sweetness rather than acidity to balance the sweetness) as compared to the Hexamer and the Huet. (3625 views)
Tasted by PSPatrick on 8/28/2013 & rated 93 points: Flight 5, Loire, Wine 7 (blind): The wine was medium- to dark golden in colour and offered quince, pineapple, pear and honey on the nose. On the palate the wine was sweet but fresh, and salty, with quince, pineapple, pear and honey flavours, paired with medium-plus acidity and incredible length. The full-bodied, well-structured wine was ready to drink and will continue to drink well for many years. Quite a treat. Good QPR. Great wine! (3287 views)
Tasted by AllRed on 5/25/2013 & rated 95 points: 4th Saturday Group brown bagger (Rick's & Cris'): Golden yellow color. Notes of marmalade, pineapple and tropical fruit. Rich, viscous texture, with flavors of marmalade, honey and pineapple. Long, balanced finish with loads of fruit and good underlying acidity. (3213 views)
Tasted by thelostverse on 5/25/2013 & rated 94 points: 4th Saturday Group. Citrus and mango notes with nice viscosity. (2819 views)
Tasted by Billigan on 2/22/2013 & rated 95 points: This is the kind of nectar that you imagine the Greek gods drank. (2893 views)
Tasted by junglejuice on 8/19/2012 & rated 97 points: 5/14/19/9/50 - Talk about a monumental bottle of sticky! It is honestly hard for me to imagine a more stunning expression of dessert wine. I would prefer this to most all top flight Sauternes I have had up to this point and at a fraction of the cost! Honeyed tropical notes with ripe pear and creamy lemon dominate the palate and are left on the tongue on what seems like an endless finish. It would border on sappy if it wasn't for fantastic lazer-like acidity that keeps the wine in check and the flavors focused on the back end. Consumed over the course of three days and it barely budged - which tells me there is a long life ahead of it. It is hard for me to imagine this phenomenal wine improving, but all signs point to further positive development. To put it simply, this wine is extraordinary in every way. 97+ (3396 views)
Tasted by Billigan on 3/17/2012 & rated 95 points: I'm a young man, with many great wines in my future, but for now, this stands apart as the finest sweet wine I've ever enjoyed. Smells as if perfectly ripe peaches and mangoes were crushed in your glass, with a beautiful, subtle floral hint underneath it all. On the palate, the pitch-perfect acidity prevents any cloying or syrupy qualities from emerging (as I somewhat experienced with the 2005 vintage of this wine) and forces tremendous self-restraint from just guzzling it. The fragrant, mouth-coating finish lasts for eons, giving you plenty of time to sit back and contemplate this absolutely brilliant beverage. (3436 views)
Tasted by jmht on 8/14/2011 & rated 95 points: As part of a Baumard tasting two weeks ago, multiple bottles were consumed. Needless to say, one half bottle of the 07 Quarts de Chaume was buried in my fridge by a guest, after it was opened and partly consumed during the tasting.

Thus, I had the opportunity to re-taste the wine two weeks after opening, and being left in the fridge. The intense tropical fruit display is far less evident at two weeks, but hardly could I call it lacking for pineapple, guava, peach... just simply delicious. The minerals are now more prominent. And, there is this mid-palate flavor-- perhaps rhubarb-- that comes to the fore. Overall, great acidity and balance. (3370 views)
Tasted by jmht on 8/1/2011 & rated 95 points: Consumed as part of a larger Baumard tasting (multiple Trie Speciale, Clos Papillon, Clos Ste Catherine and Quarts de Chaume vintages).

Extraordinary young Quarts. No doubt it will age beautifully, if I can keep my hands off it. (3262 views)
Tasted by Mozelrider on 7/16/2010 & rated 96 points: perfect honey! (4031 views)
Tasted by pizzler on 4/23/2010 & rated 96 points: huge peach and honey nose, rich flavor that fills the mouth, peach, black tea, rhubarb, strawberry, and a strong tupelo honey and Meyer lemon finish, its so well integrated that at first you think it is one beautiful taste that never changes, but airing and the changing temperatures of the wine allows you to pull out new flavors, medium weight, long finish, elegantly smooth (3639 views)
Tasted by ews3 on 10/22/2009 & rated 97 points: 2009 Wine Spectator NYWE Grand Tasting (Marriott Marquis, Times Square, NYC): lovely. perfect acid balance helps concentrate the peach, apple, mango & honey flavors -- long long finish. One of my top 2 from the tasting. (7355 views)
