Tasted by Strølle on 1/16/2024 & rated 87 points: Nose with red fuits and berries, very discreet anise and bitter roses.
Mouth with red fruits, earthy and good tannins (medium +).
Still pretty high acidity, when fruit and tannins are taking into consideration. High alcohol percent as well perhaps feels higher than actual. Food wine absolutely.
Pairs good with beef, but not a big weekend wine. (221 views)
Tasted by gbejjani on 2/4/2023 & rated 91 points: A well and elegantly aged Gigondas that comes together with very good balance. Some leftover acidity, milk chocolate creaminess and residual alcohol create a great companion for a sub-zero winter afternoon!

Tasted by danstrings on 2/19/2021 & rated 90 points: Developing beautifully - spicy fruit and exotic nose, round and silky on the palate with supple dark fruit and earth. Nice. (1633 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 12/16/2019: Must be an off bottle because the bottle I had earlier in the years was fine. This one is completely gone: prunes, oxidized, perfect for the sinc. (1835 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 2/1/2019: Quite good, authentic Gigondas - much more so than the Hautes Garrigues bottling. On tertiary notes, garrigue, some animal notes. The fruit is dark and there’s tobacco/smoke as well. I don’t think this will improve further from here. (1968 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 3/20/2017 & rated 89 points: Weekly tasting group RWP #249: Rhône; Gigondas (@ VD): The bouquet shows a fully mature wine with tea, still some cherries, plums and cinnamon. On the palate some kirsch and pepper, but also rust, chocolate, autumn forest and mushrooms. Good acidity and soft tannin. Still ok, but don't wait too long. 88 - 89 (2808 views)
Tasted by andtheodor on 7/13/2015 & rated 90 points: Some rubber & iodine at first, gummy Grenache fruit that is almost Australian in tone and texture. Soft, carob, charcoal, has more herbal spice as it airs and seems more Chateauneuf-ish. Good. (3697 views)
Tasted by beatles on 5/9/2015 & rated 91 points: My last bottle of 12, and I have loved everyone them, but it was time for this one to go. Served blind for Mr. Pacalet at dinner, he preferred this over Pegau 98 and Papet 98; It is light, Burgundian with just hints of heat showing at the end, but otherwise surely a joy, strawberry-fruit, pinot-like character that shows, why the Burgundians used to come to Gigondas for help. Will keep, but certainly mature now. (2799 views)
Tasted by Neecies on 3/5/2015: Super ripe, fruit fading, not appealing in the least. (2664 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 7/28/2012: OC4PokerXIV: Alsace vs Germany (and dinner) (Wine Cellar Club, Irvine, CA): Slow-O 3 hours, served non-blind at CT offline dinner. Bottle, label and cork all in near perfect condition. In fact, as this is #11 of an original case, I can't recall any of the corks coming out so new, soft and lightly winesoaked. The cork suggested this was going to show youthfully, the appearance and nose confirmed it. Bright aromas of raspberry, spice, garrigue, thyme, and hot galets. Substantial lift and very fresh acidity. Absolutely at peak. Everything in balance on the palate, with tannins and fruit gaining substantial weight with airtime. During the 90 minutes this was being enjoyed, the complexity and elegance factors seemed unlimited in their upward trajectory. One bottle remains that I will likely enjoy in the next 2-3 years. Drink thru 2018, 14,5% abv, recommended (4949 views)
Tasted by forecaster on 4/19/2012 & rated 92 points: Southern Rhone wines from 1998 (Regional wines and spirits): This came in at number two for the night. Pale garnet with an intense portiness on the nose. However, this wasn't overpowering on the palate. Slightly spirity aftertaste with a very long furry finsih which persisted for a couple of minutes. (4250 views)
Tasted by pjaines on 3/26/2012: An absolutely massive bottle of wine - time has not loosened this one up much at all - very dark appearance, powerful palate of rich fruit, with impressive struture. This still feels very primary. I would have hated to think what it tasted like when it was first released. Powerful, rich and full and needs a lot of time. (2951 views)
Tasted by svdheijden on 1/7/2012: This one should have been drunk earlier. Still drinkable, but well past its prime. (3199 views)
Tasted by redders on 11/6/2011 & rated 91 points: In a perfect spot between youth and maturity. Plenty of fruit but secondary characteristics there. Very well balanced. Disappeared v quickly which is always a sign of a bottle drinking well
(3031 views)
Tasted by cmarshallwines on 3/5/2011: Badly Corked. Tasted with Goodnose tasting group. Will open another bottle tonight. (2268 views)
Tasted by suttonri on 2/13/2011 & rated 94 points: This was outstanding, at a perfect place on its aging curve. Bricked at the rim, with raspberries and kirsch on the palate balanced by acidity, dusty cocoa, garrigue with a pleasing floral component, fur, game, and pepper. Really a perfect balance between suave fruit and animale 2ndary components. (2240 views)
Tasted by Tim Heaton on 11/17/2010: PnP consumed over 2 nights. Opens with detailed notes of fresh cherry, garrigue, wet stones and soiled diaper. The flavours of cherry, kirsch and meat dominate the palate on day #1, with day #2 showing more details and delicateness alike. Solid acidity and slightly above-average complexity. Medium tannins, with a lingering finish. 14,5% abv, drink thru 2018. (2305 views)
Tasted by ianinvirginia on 7/24/2010 & rated 88 points: First day was mostly cherries, cedar and tannins, with a bit too much heat; second day more plummy and more secondary notes of all spice and a tinge of fig. Was hoping for more earthiness and this was kind of primary and then roundish, but still a nice wine. (2565 views)
Tasted by pbaek on 1/19/2010: I remember having bottles of this wine that made me think it was ready to go, but the bottle I opened last night was at least 3 years away from peak, possibly more. A big scaled wine with warm cherry fruit and some secondary notes but also a big tannic structure that currently makes the wine hard to drink. My sense is that this could turn into something quite good 3-5 years down the line even though I am tired of drinking wines with close to 15% alcohol. More authentic than the Hautes Garrigues bottling. (2760 views)
Tasted by Spencer on 12/2/2009 & rated 92 points: Excellent. In a very nice place right now, but should easily go another five years or so. Balanced, complex, surprisingly elegant for a Gigondas. (3028 views)
Tasted by Winger on 4/18/2009: Some brick color at the edge. Fading fruit and drying tannins. This one is on the downward death spiral. Drink up. (2901 views)
Tasted by stephen locke on 4/13/2009 & rated 88 points: Bricking red but lots of fruit on nose and palate. Good acidity maintains freshness. Not a wild rustic gigondas - more polished and complex with a good finish. No further improvement I'd say - in fact may be starting to go downhill now (3270 views)
Tasted by David J Cooper on 2/21/2008: Lighter red. Definite mature nose. Kirsh, cherries black pepper and a little diaper pale. Also hints of wood. Dusty tannins and lots of acid. Very good. Maybe at it's peak. (3228 views)
Tasted by skm95t on 12/15/2007 & rated 91 points: Bling tasting with GOLV:

WOTN, Light color that has started browning, could be confused with a burgundy, no decanting need, very aromatic right out of the bottle, portish qualities, also tobacco, cinnimon, cloves, liqorice, and a hint of orange. Fuller body on the pallet than the color may suggest with lively acidicty and a nice tannic structure for a 9 year old wine. I voted this my WOTN b/c of its complexity and uniqueness versus the other wines tasted. (3475 views)
Tasted by good old ludwig van on 12/15/2007 & rated 92 points: Tasted blind along with 3 others. This was one of my favorites, especially later in the evening with food.

The light body had me thinking it was a Pinot. Bouquet was old world: prune, earth, tobacco. Notes of cherry, milk chocolate, caramel, and orange. (3425 views)

Red Rhone Blend

Read about the different grapes used to produce red and white Rhone wines
On CellarTracker, Red Rhone Blend is the term for a wine consisting of two or more of the traditional 13 Southern Rhone grape varieties. Typically it's the Grenache, Syrah, Mourvedre or Cinsault grapes, but can also contain the Muscardin, Counoise, Clairette, Bourboulenc, Picpoul, Roussanne, Terret Noir, Picardan or Vaccarese grapes.

A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce.
