Tasted by elevwine on 2/18/2024 & rated 92 points: Purchased at winery summer of 2010 on family vacation. By this age, wine was soft, rich and elegant. Enough acidity left for balance. Have had very good luck recently with aged Chianti. (151 views)
Tasted by _Xenon on 10/10/2023 & rated 90 points: Happy that this wine was still anjoyable. High acid, agree to the other tasters. Drink up. (449 views)
Tasted by Jonne on 10/6/2023 & rated 93 points: Mycket mörkt tegelfärgat, knappt genomskinligt.
Tunna gardiner (14 procent).
Högst påtagliga men mycket finkorniga tanniner.
(376 views)
Tasted by AURUM on 8/25/2023 & rated 89 points: Dark red with maturity tone. Dark cherries and plum, not as expressive as I expected. Taste with dark berries, dry grainy tannins, good acidity and good length. Missing something that makes it interesting. Maybe it's slightly in downhill. Usually one of my favourite producers.
(1304 views)
Tasted by YoRi on 9/29/2021 & rated 90 points: Robe rouge sang, pourpre, dense. Larmes nombreuses et lentes.
Nez expressif, cerise, prune, cacao.
(1635 views)
Tasted by SCM Fan on 10/8/2020 & rated 92 points: Double decanted back into bottle. First pour- dark in the glass. No bricking around rim. Smell: Dark plums and earth. Tell this wine is going to be massive in the mouth. Taste- monster tannins still. Fruit dark plums. This needs food. Drying tannins after fruit disappears 45 seconds later. Very long aftertaste. Terrific wine after all these years. Just saw the current release of di Brolio Reserve at Costco, can only think this '07 was THE reserve. (1942 views)
Tasted by thewiz on 4/18/2020 & rated 92 points: (Decanted for one hour)
Deep red colour with a brick red hue. Incipient maturity on the nose showing warm ripe morello cherries combined with forest floor, liquorice and herbs. Opens up with violets as well in a very pleasant way. Warmer fruit on the palate showing austere tannins, still some primary fruit before the tannins come back on the lengthy finish.

Tasted by HansO on 1/12/2020 & rated 93 points: Rich, warm and dark, chocolate and ripe red fruit. Well balanced by its acidity. Should have more in stock, but alas. Still tannines left which makes an excellent red for the Italian style dinner. Enjoyable. (2318 views)
Tasted by thewiz on 2/16/2019 & rated 91 points: Gourmetklubbens fyrtioförsta middag: Tema Italien (Södermalm, Stockholm (P+A)): (Decanted for one hour)
Maturing nose showing tertiary notes of stables, moulded leaves and a hint of some primary fruit before a rounder and broad fruit shows up in the background. At first youthful tannins, but with some added time in the glass there is a lovely development with maturity and starting to show some dried fruit on the lengthy finish.

Tasted by Yagil on 1/27/2019 & rated 91 points: Toscana veterans reunion: deep ruby
med+ aromas intensity of dry black cherries, black plums, cranberries, earth, marmelade, toasted oak-vanilla; developing.
dry, high acidity, high tannins, high a.b.v., full body, pronounced flavours intensity consistent with the nose; long finish;
can drink now - suitable for further ageing. (3030 views)
Tasted by Faknr0ll on 12/6/2018 & rated 91 points: Decanted 1h, still powerful, drink now (2500 views)
Tasted by YoRi on 12/27/2017 & rated 91 points: Un vin "Wow".
(3482 views)
Tasted by Johehn on 7/6/2017 & rated 92 points: What a nice old Chianti. I let it bread for 1,5 hours and you'll enjoy a really integrated wine. Ner peak or not? why wait, it is just superb right now (3836 views)
Tasted by whitmanlholt on 2/18/2017 & rated 89 points: Popped and poured. This is a dark red wine. On the nose, I get cherry, some oak, and herbs. In the mouth, this is tasty, with good acid and balance; it is medium weight generally. The finish continues the acid stream, underscoring that this is a wine to enjoy with food. Overall, this is a nice and enjoyable wine, one that is a bit heavy on the wood, but otherwise okay. 89 points. (4202 views)
Tasted by rgawlowski on 4/23/2016 & rated 90 points: Very nice; balanced, smooth, inviting; a very good Chianti. A very nice nose and color. Fairly classic. (4794 views)
Tasted by Winiac on 4/21/2016 & rated 89 points: Ripe and fruity with long finish. Does not have adequate acidity. (4409 views)
Tasted by swapdoc on 3/31/2016: A big, masculine wine. The palate of dark fruit, hint of iron, charred berries. Some wild flowers and more nuanced flavors open with air. Long and vigorous now, still evolving. (3575 views)
Tasted by eljocco on 2/13/2016 & rated 92 points: Vilken balans! (2977 views)
Tasted by canan on 4/17/2015 & rated 91 points: Chianti Classico and related BYO (KOGS): Spicy and solid modern dark fruit. Very tight but also a bit unstructured at the moment. (4293 views)
Tasted by Chapel on 10/25/2014 & rated 89 points: this is a traditional Italian food pairing wine. to drink it solo will not impress you. Unfortunately, too many other wines and could not really get into this one (3663 views)
Tasted by GoBlue2002 on 8/23/2014 & rated 89 points: Very pleasant and smooth/soft for a chianti.
Aromas and flavors of dark brambly fruit, leather
Good length and mellow tannins on the finish. Quality chianti, just not quite worth the community average price.
Me - 90, wife - 88. (4079 views)
Tasted by magnus_dahlbeck on 6/29/2014 & rated 90 points: Full body wine with lots of cherries. Well balanced and nice aftertaste. (4262 views)
Tasted by jeffm_fla on 6/4/2014 & rated 90 points: Initially, the tart acidity made this almost undrinkable. Time, air, and red sauced pasta helped this come around. Definite Sangiovese flavor profile. Nice wine (4087 views)
Tasted by RobSpectator on 4/17/2014 & rated 89 points: Much better the next day. (3303 views)

Barone Ricasoli

Producer website

Barone Ricasoli is the oldest winery in Italy, producing wine at the estate since 1141. The current owner, Barone Francesco Ricasoli, is the 32nd generation Baron of the family. Geremia and Ridolfo were the original Ricasolis, but it was in the year 1000 that the Ricasoli family was granted the highest degree of power over their feudal land, the title of "Barone" decreed directly from the King. This title signified full autonomy over their lands and those who inhabited them. After centuries of defending their land and people, the Ricasoli family was the first to utilize their farmland and vineyards, producing and selling their best wine production. It has been documented from as early as the 16th century that Brolio had exported wine to Amsterdam and England and from the beginning of the 20th century, Brolio wine had become renowned and exported all over the world.

Sangiovese Blend

Sangiovese blend is used in CellarTracker for Italian wines to represent wines predominantly made of Sangiovese and blended with traditional Italian grapes. It is different than SuperTuscan which is a blend of Sangiovese with non-traditional (eg Bordeaux) varieties, often in closer to equal portions. For example, Chianti is at least 80% Sangiovese and will always be listed Sangiovese blend.
