Community Tasting Notes (average 87.6 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 19 notes) - hiding notes with no text

(3288 views)
Tasted by joet626 on 1/11/2014 & rated 87 points: Very ncie dark purple color. Very dry. Good with food; just OK without (3328 views)
Tasted by aajder on 8/5/2013 & rated 85 points: Deep color. This is nicely fragrant, displaying ripe dark berries, herbs, oak, and a hint of flowers. On the palate, this is medium full bodied with good concentration and ample class. The finish is a bit oaky, only moderate in length, and has slightly rustic tannins. (3700 views)
Tasted by Pfleonard on 5/14/2013 & rated 90 points: Medium intensity aromas of dark cherry, leather, dark earth and wild game. Follows through on the palate with a meaty warmth that is not from the alcohol. Soft tannins and medium-bodied in mouth. Stood up to olives, capers and anchovies with Spaghetti Puttanesca. Very enjoyable wine with dinner. (2550 views)
Tasted by AWBryce on 1/10/2013 & rated 89 points: Purple in the glass.
Nice nose of cherries and sweet plums, with hints of oak on the back end.
Palate is mid-bodied with decent acidity and chewy tannins. Finish is fruity and lengthy. The only thing that detracts from this wine is its lack of evolution with time in the glass, it seems to me as though it tires after a while. (2843 views)
Tasted by Double-A on 1/2/2013 & rated 90 points: Cherry and cocoa nose with a clove and creosote note. Great flavours; ripe tannins; medium-full finish.

Tasted by YWG Wine Guy on 9/11/2012 & rated 89 points: Great little wine here with a taste profile that some may not like, but is tasty and a little complex. Totally reminds me of a restrained old world Pinot.

New at MLCC in Manitoba - 19$ and great value. Nose is dark fruit and light earth. Palate is rich and medium weight with lots of dark berry, plum/prune with light acid and tannin. The earth notes are there throughout but restrained and balanced but leave you with that earthy/menthol quality on the long finish. I like this with roast salmon tonight and tasty just on its own. Aglianico

Varietal character (Appellation America)

The Southern Italy Outpost (on the CellartTracker Forum)

Originally from Greece and an early Roman favorite, Aglianico was planted as early as the seventh century B.C. Infused with interesting aromas of plums, raisins and licorice. Dried floral notes flow easily into the medium to full-bodied palate of black pepper, smooth, subtle cherry, and plum flavors.. A stylish, intriguing young red, with fine tannins and a ripe balanced finish.
