Tasted by bjecjohnson on 8/5/2017 & rated 95 points: APPEARANCE: Nice bubbles with a dark yellow hue. Golden almost
AROMA: Toasted bread
TASTE: Very smooth and enjoyable. Notes of custardNeed to purchase more Late Disgorged bottles in the future. Have thoroughly enjoyed every LD bottle I've had from Schramsberg (2193 views)
Tasted by sp4388 on 3/18/2017 & rated 92 points: Granny Smith Apple, pineapple, california sunshine, a good amount of yeastiness and creaminess, long finish. Delicious, but I hit palate fatigue after one glass, ideally for me this would be toned down a notch (2147 views)
Tasted by MystMrQ on 12/31/2015 & rated 90 points: Surprisingly bright and crisp given its extended aging time in both barrel and bottle. Tart, green apple dominates making this a very food-friendly option. At $80 retail it's not a great value, but certainly an enjoyable sparkler, especially if you're fond of chardonnay-based, California interpretations. (2686 views)
Tasted by Whodeyinsea on 2/22/2015 & rated 93 points: Super delicious!!! Green apple right from the open, evolving into candied pineapple. (3028 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 6/22/2014 & rated 92 points: PnP chilled. Large, then small bubble size, heavy then light stream. Light golden/straw color. Toast/yeast nose. Med tart fruit, green apple, strong yeast. At or just over peak drinking window. Served with Rainer cherry's, strawberries, red apples. Nothing off but yeast influence more pronounced than 6 months ago. Drink by 2016. (3756 views)
Tasted by schott on 6/21/2014 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour. Nice light golden straw color. Bubbles medium, becoming smaller. Toasty, yeasty nose. Strong fruit - green apple. Strong yeast, but not over the top. Medium tart/acid. We really enjoyed this on the deck with some fresh Ranier cherries, apples, strawberries. (2084 views)
Tasted by Mdmiller on 4/14/2014 & rated 96 points: One of the best schramsberg's I've had & that's saying a lot. Rich round full w layers & layers of flavors. Green apple & candied/dried pineapple w yeast & nutty flavors. Some of the incredible flavor profile may be its age as a 2001 vintage. Not sure it will continue to improve. Wow. (2185 views)
Tasted by markrucks on 12/31/2013 & rated 95 points: So complex with wonderful yeast and lively bubbles. Absolutely stellar - will put this up against anything from France. Nice way to ring in the New Year. (1960 views)
Tasted by smphelps on 11/11/2013 & rated 93 points: In a wide group of tasters and tastes, this was uniformly well received. Very brisk, clean and refreshing with a preciseness and focus that was impressive. Fresh green apples with a nice tartness covered with a reserved touch of honey. (1841 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 11/4/2013 & rated 94 points: P/well chilled. Very robust/tiny/long bubble stream. The best bottle of "150" tried so far. Intense fruit, tart, clearly Chard, toast, green apples, slight yeast. Great balance, clean long finish. Will age yet for many years. Tremendous wine. Nothing off. Gift. (1242 views)
Tasted by eoinhharkins on 10/20/2013 & rated 93 points: Just a great bottle of wine, notes of lemon, green apple, with subtle nut, vanilla brioche undertones, palate as wonderful fruit and intensity, the effervescence is really fine but real precision, decent acidity and finish, surprising for something this old there is still so much primary flavours (1295 views)
Tasted by mattdathan on 9/2/2013 & rated 94 points: Rich, smooth and very sophisticated. (1292 views)
Tasted by wino365 on 8/11/2013 & rated 93 points: - Yellow gold color. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Round texture with a long finish. (1168 views)
Tasted by nyokie6 on 5/16/2013 & rated 93 points: Significantly better than your average champagne. (1464 views)
Tasted by Jscalia on 5/5/2013 & rated 95 points: Schramsberg ... The best California sparkler! This one is very yeasty, Champagne-like. (1281 views)
Tasted by FPNova on 2/15/2013 & rated 91 points: Very much like last year's note except a bit more subdued fruit and a slightly heavier body with the added age. Still an excellent Valentine's Day treat. (1926 views)
Tasted by DanH on 5/5/2012 & rated 95 points: Absolutely stunning. The extra yeast-time leaves the wine with a subtle, yet shockingly complex, palate of bread and butter, dancing perfectly against the wines generous and well integrated acids. (2247 views)
Tasted by Barry Notes on 4/2/2012 & rated 93 points: PnP well chilled. Wow, this is one, if not the best Schramsberg sparkler I've ever tasted and certainly ranks up there with J. Schram. 10 years on lees, bottled in 2011, incrediable tiny/very heavy bubble stream, extremely smooth w/huge fruit, some toastiness, super clean, perfect balance. Absolutely nothing off. $75-90. (2244 views)
Tasted by joschott on 3/30/2012 & rated 93 points: Popped and poured --- well chilled. Light straw color, nice stream of fine bubbles --- created a nice head.

Nose was slightly toasted, clean, balanced, fruity (apple) --- extremely clean finish. Nothing off.

Can't wait to crack the next bottle! (2453 views)
Tasted by mjf@ulkner on 3/3/2012 & rated 92 points: Beautiful honeyed flavors overlying crisp apple notes. Nice mature California sparkling- a bit expensive, but I look at is as paying the winery to store and age the wine prior to release. (2183 views)
Tasted by tarheel17 on 2/28/2012: STG does California Cabernet (Seattle): served blind to start
clearly sweeter than the Champagne, it had that California fruit signature. I still found it taut and precise, though, without flaw. I preferred the Champagne to it, but I didn't think this was an 8$ sparkler, either. then again, when I found out it was $80 list price, I wonder why anyone would choose this over the real deal? (2643 views)
Tasted by FPNova on 2/14/2012 & rated 92 points: Apples & lemon nose. Caramelized apples & pears on the palette with lemon & leezy cheesy overtones. Closes with crystal clear acidity that lingers nice and long. This wine spent 10 years on the lees and was just disgorged in November 2011 - what a very special treat for Valentines Day! Schramsberg will release magnums and double magnums later this year so watch out for that - I will be watching.... (2107 views)

Chardonnay

The Chardonnay Grape

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.

2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson
