| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.3 pts. and median of 88 pts. in 21 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by Colorado Native 3G on 4/4/2016 & rated 88 points: This bottle is still kicking' with about 30 min of breathing time. This bottle rocked with a vanilla/caramel bread pudding. Pretty pale salmon colored wine that has a a soft yeasty, minerality with subtle strawberry fruit. Soft acid at the finish that still gives this wine structure. (1580 views) | | Tasted by CharlesDarwin on 4/20/2013 & rated 88 points: My first Bonny Doon and a pleasurable one at that. I'm not sure what I was expecting, but I enjoyed my experience with this wine, nonetheless. Three things stuck out, a finish that graced a range of bready, yeasty creaminess, sharp, piquant minerals, and a lovely balancing bitterness. The initial perception was of flabby sweetness, but the finish was graceful, alluring, and complex. (3216 views) | | Tasted by Mike Kopanski on 3/9/2013 & rated 87 points: Saturday Tasting at The Gourmet Shop Columbia, SC 3/9/2013 (The Gourmet Shop, Columbia, SC): Light and lovely. Just a refreshing mouth full of soft red fruit leaning toward mostly strawberry. Very much like a rose from Provence. Has a fruit first style. Very balanced, not overly acidic. Rich salmon like color. Strawberry nose with some floral components. Lip smacking red fruit with a nice taste of watermelon that lingers on to a clean finish. (3445 views) | | Tasted by Martin Redmond on 12/17/2012 & rated 90 points: Pretty salmon pink color with citrus, red fruit, and mineral aromas. On the palate, it's medium bodied and fruity with good balance and acidity followed by cherry, strawberry, and citrus flavors. Medium-long finish. Blend of 73% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 8% Grenache Blanc, 5% Roussanne, 4% Cinsault (3735 views) | | Tasted by gbanks on 12/13/2012 & rated 91 points: Such a beautiful rose; the most vivid that I've tasted that elusive "strawberry coulis" so often noted. Vivacious (and incredibly French) minerality. (2735 views) | | Tasted by SonomaWilliam on 7/9/2012 & rated 90 points: Simple Hedonisms Rosé Panel; 5/1/2012-8/5/2012: Snagged another bottle at Bottle Barn in Santa Rosa for a steal of $12, b/c I have been too busy to re-order. Having too much fun drinking to repeat tasting notes, see mine from last tasting :) (3542 views) | | Tasted by SonomaWilliam on 6/7/2012 & rated 91 points: Simple Hedonisms Rosé Panel; 5/1/2012-8/5/2012: The 2010 Vin Gris by BDV was one of my favorite Rosé of the season. The new 2011 is also wonderful, (I may have liked 2010 a tad more, but 60+ rose' this month have tainted my brain pink.) Might improve over the summer with some bottle time, going to let my other bottle sit. (The person giving this a 76 either had a bad bottle or was looking for something not dry..or a personal beef....)
A blend of 73% Grenache, 10% Mourvedre, 8% Grenache Blanc, 5% Roussanne, 4% Cinsault) Love the 13& white Rhone.... ( use of tartaric acid add and bentonite, but bravo for disclosure. If TTB wanted to be useful, THIS is what they would police.) 13.5% alc
A lively, light pink color with a salmon hue. On the nose - strawberry, wet stone, fresh cherry notes, and touch of citrus In The Mouth its very enjoyable and bright - if you are an acid hound, like I, this rose' is for you. Newly ripened red fruit, strawberry, some minerality, pleasing finish.
Another of my faves to stock up and keep a few for Turkey Day, and beyond. (3658 views) | | Tasted by David_T on 4/22/2012 & rated 88 points: Aromas and flavors match, showing fresh strawberries, oranges, and a bit of fennel. Pleasant minerality and acidty, a short finish. (1714 views) | | Tasted by christophee on 4/21/2012 & rated 76 points: Salmon, pink with medium viscosity in the glass. Rose pedals, cherry compote and yeast on the nose. Medium body with flowers, sour cherry and wax on the palate. Biting minerals and disjointed. Med-short finish. Bonny Doon was sold in early 2020 to "WarRoom", a wine production and marketing entity formed in 2018. Per a January 2020 Decanter article - https://www.decanter.com/wine-news/californias-bonny-doon-sold-430550/ - "Graham will retain creative control of Bonny Doon’s wines, but production will change from 35,000 cases of 15 different wines annually to just four wines: the flagship red Rhône blend Le Cigare Volant; Le Cigare Blanc (based on Vermentino); Vin Gris de Cigare (a Rhône varietal rosé); and a 100% Picpoul."Rosé Blend"Rosé blend" can mean a blend of just about any varietals since the designation comes from the resulting color of the wine.USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
