Tasted by DerkJ on 1/1/2024 & rated 91 points: decanted for 30 minutes and we enjoyed it, but I was expecting a bit more, the fruit was fading a bit. This is my fourth bottle (one to go) and it is a nice Bordeaux, but we had a night with other very good wines and if I compare this one, it is good, but not outstanding at this price level. (1042 views)
Tasted by O'Meara on 12/10/2023: I’ve always liked this wine, and tonight was no exception. It’s very smooth and juicy. The nose has a nice amount of complexity from red/black fruit to green tobacco and leather. It needs at least 60 minutes in the decanter before it really starts to shine. Then it keeps improving. While the vintage is maligned, this wine should change some minds. Drink now with a brief decant or old for another 5-10 years. (1217 views)
Tasted by chatters on 10/20/2023: Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier rouge (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas, black hued fruits especially blackcurrant, tiny meaty note, cedar, oak spice, quite a classic claret nose. Juicy, fleshy, dark fruits hand in hand with cedary, woody tannins with a very slightly meaty underpin, all travels long with a little biscuit, balanced. Good. (1400 views)
Tasted by Noremedy21 on 10/16/2023 & rated 92 points: Consistent with my earlier note. Newly acquired OWC from BBR. This one was even more accessible, PnP, and good to go after 30 mins vs. the ~2 hr+ decant I found needed with my previous bottle 3/4 months back. (1424 views)
Tasted by Noremedy21 on 7/15/2023 & rated 92 points: A beautiful expression of Pessac Leognan. Took some time to open up in the decanter, 2-3 hours even; which surprised me, I would have expected it to be more approachable now given the vintage and age. Wonderful cigar box, mushroom, charcoal and graphite. Plenty of black fruit and well integrated tannins. Wonderful, I will be acquiring more. (1760 views)
Tasted by chatters on 4/14/2023: Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Medium minus intensity aromas of fresh blackcurrant, a little sweet spice, wild plum, cedar, with agitation a touch of herbaceous underpin. Medium plus intensity acidity, fresh blackcurrant backed by that herbaceous note and an almost smoky note, cedar, tannins are drying and travel long but are surprisingly silky. this is balanced, complex and rather yummy (2297 views)
Tasted by astroman on 1/25/2023 & rated 91 points: Capsicum, ripe dark fruits, rounded. (2549 views)
Tasted by spillwine on 12/17/2022 & rated 92 points: Magnum. Facile à boire, sans complexité particulière. (2581 views)
Tasted by Ernestas on 9/9/2022 & rated 91 points: A blend of 65% CS, 30% Merlot and 5% PV, wine is aged for 18 months in oak, 35% new. Deep garnet colour, ruby hue. Medium intensity aroma of rubber, leather, barnyard, cassis, violets, graphite.
Medium+ body, smooth and well balanced with rich and concentrated mouthfeel, earthy, spiced and layered black fruit flavours with leathery and flinty hints, fine grained chalky tannins, medium+ finish. (2954 views)
Tasted by Zweder on 8/27/2022 & rated 92 points: Bert's pension party part 1 (@ BV): In the bouquet dark berries, laurel, licorice, a touch of barnyard and a pleasant dose of oak. Same on the palate. Some graphite beautiful acidity and round tannin. Still very youthful and will improve over the next 4 – 6+ years. (2883 views)
Tasted by Gece on 7/1/2022: In a very nice window. Still fairly youthful, but polished. (2746 views)
Tasted by hsacks on 5/24/2022 & rated 93 points: Deep red color. Aromas black currants, pencil lead, earth and wood spices. Ripe, beautifully integrated fruit in the mouth with excellent depth and length. Very long and persistent on the palate with a lovely mouthfeel. A terrific effort for this vintage. Excellent value. (2588 views)
Tasted by chatters on 3/2/2022: Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier; 2/23/2022-3/6/2022 (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. Wild blackcurrant, a little toasty note, cream, slight cedar, sweet spcie, a smidge of pepper here as well as some plum. Earth with time. Juicy, savoury, brambles, slight pyrazine, a little smoky note, tannins are tight but don't detract from the fruit. Long. Good, really good in fact. (3093 views)
Tasted by EhrlichDY on 1/31/2022: Popped and poured and enjoyed over two days. Classic graves with notes of cedar, smoke, and tobacco. Hints of green pepper are present on the palate on day one showing the characteristic difficulty in gaining ripeness in the 2011. On day 2, the green notes fade and some red berry fruit emerges. The wine also picked up some weight. Great QPR and an overachiever in the vintage. I'd hold these for another 3-5 years and guessing they will be better. (2739 views)
Tasted by tsao.stephen@gmail.com on 11/22/2021 & rated 93 points: Nice deep red color. Fruity scent. Pleasant tannins. Superb bottle of wine. (2959 views)
Tasted by Papies on 11/5/2021 & rated 92 points: From a very pretty magnum, double decanted .
Another great 2011 open and welcoming now and we are starting to see a very solid pattern developing in this vintage. Generally producers who produce juicier and richer wines like here ( also in St Julian) are already drinking very well. Good fruit, soft earthy , light tobacco feel. Very solid 92 and delicious now

Checking our notes this wine has definitely evolved very well over the last year from the 88 we gave it in 2015! (2789 views)
Tasted by rthpal on 9/28/2021 & rated 93 points: I tasted this wine today and really liked it, and gave it a 93, very good for the year. Originally I gave it 92 +. My younger daughter liked it as much as I did. D de C seems to do well even in less good vintages, and it is generally reasonably priced. (Taste of black fruit, especially currants.) (2812 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 7/23/2021 & rated 92 points: Prior bottle was one year ago and this wine continues to show quite well. Continues to be all blackfruit and cassis on the nose. Between medium and full bodied with black and red cherry along with blackberry upfront. Deepens through the middle with darker black cherry and plum. Backside shows integrated tannins and mineral notes. Overall, the fruit continues to gain expression and the mid-body through the finish in particular also continues to improve from a balance perspective. Has the fruit notes and structural qualities to continue to improve along these lines for a next few years. Good QPR for a great wine in a less-heralded vintage. (2276 views)
Tasted by fozzibaer on 5/2/2021 & rated 94 points: Excellent, I was really happy with it. (2999 views)
Tasted by baxter67 on 11/14/2020 & rated 93 points: This has been a pleasant surprise. The Bordeaux 2011s seem now to be opening up nicely. Had three of these DdeCs in the past year and they get better each time. Now drinking really well. Good black fruit, tannins integrating nicely, trademark tobacco and elegance. No hurry to drink the rest of the case. **** (2581 views)
Tasted by FamousWine on 10/17/2020 & rated 92 points: 65% Cab Sauvignon, 30% Merlot & 5% Petit Verdot. 13.5% abv. The nose is very classy, elegant and expressive. It is full of nuances and built on delicate touches: blackcurrant, mint, cedar wood, leather, earth & graphite, sweet spices… We could go on listing for a long time… There is also a semblance of very thin dusty veil. I totally imagine myself in the explorers' private club, in 19th century, in England, surrounded by men in beautiful costumes, sticking my nose into a pack of menthol cigarettes. The palate is rich & powerful. We are however on a medium body resulting from a fairly gentle extraction. The tannins are nicely coated in a very slightly fatty substance. Juicy plums, a few black cherries and a touch of violet. There's also some fresh cream (strange, isn't it?). Freshness is another strong characteristic of this wine. It's perfectly mastered and it superbly balances the whole. Nice persistence on ripe fruits and tobacco. Wow this is good! Be careful, need aeration++ to allow the fruits to express themselves fully (strict and austere juice when uncorking). We can drink it now but I would wait a little longer if I were you. Great wine, great Bordeaux! 92-93pts

Tasted by ChopperWine on 9/30/2020 & rated 92 points: Deep red with a small hint of thinning on the edge. Wonderfully elegant bouquet. Blackberries, spice and cherries. Mild oak. Enjoyable all around. (3148 views)
Tasted by chatters on 8/9/2020: Coravin fun - Domaine de Chevalier rouge; 8/4/2020-8/12/2020 (My place, Kent Street): From Coravin. on first sniff this is very classic claret for me, a touch of toast, blackcurrant, a little red berry, slight herbaceous notes with cream and sweet spices, it's also got a little dusty note. The fruit grows with time on the nose and becomes more jubey with a slightly lifted quality, almost a touch of boot polish. Juicy acidity and similar fruit flavours here. The tannins are flour textured and supportive of the fruit rather than drying; wonderfully managed and integrated. The whole travels long with a slight sense of marginally saline wetness. Yum. (3318 views)
Tasted by RGCM Gananda on 7/18/2020 & rated 92 points: Prior bottle was nearly four and a half years ago and the wine has begun to evolve quite positively. Mixed blackfruit and cassis on the nose. Between medium and full bodied with good definition upfront to the black cherry and blackberry qualities. Mid-body is open, rounded and expressive, showing deeper notes of black cherry mixed with plum. Backside shows earth notes balanced tannins and lingering mineral notes through the finish. Overall, shows as integrated, but with the structure to continue to improve modestly over the next few years and a number of years beyond that at a high level. Given how well it's showing at present, I might only wait until June 2021 for my next bottle. (2618 views)
Tasted by fozzibaer on 6/8/2020 & rated 92 points: Elegant and refined now, ready to drink. (2855 views)

Red Bordeaux Blend

Red Bordeaux is generally made from a blend of grapes. Permitted grapes are Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Malbec and rarely Carménère.Today Carménère is rarely used, with Château Clerc Milon, a fifth growth Bordeaux, being one of the few to still retain Carménère vines. As of July 2019, Bordeaux wineries authorized the use of four new red grapes to combat temperature increases in Bordeaux. These newly approved grapes are Marselan, Touriga Nacional, Castets, and Arinarnoa.

Wineries all over the world aspire to making wines in a Bordeaux style. In 1988, a group of American vintners formed The Meritage Association to identify wines made in this way. Although most Meritage wines come from California, there are members of the Meritage Association in 18 states and five other countries, including Argentina, Australia, Canada, Israel, and Mexico.

Vins Bordeaux (Conseil Interprofessionnel du Vin de Bordeaux)

History of Bordeaux

History of 1855 Bordeaux Classification

"2009 is all about ripeness, with wines impressively packed with ripe fruit and high alcohol levels. They are showy, in-your-face, and full of pleasure. The 2010s have the fruit and alcohol levels of the 2009s, but with a compelling freshness on the finish that balances the fruit and provides a perfect sense of structure." - Ben Nelson

"2016 is a landmark vintage in certain spots of Bordeaux and it should be remembered as one of the most inspired campaigns of the last 40-50+ years." -Jon Rimmerman
"The quality of red Bordeaux in 2016 was universally lauded – although the response to the en primeur campaign was muted. Quantity was high too, with the equivalent of 770 million bottles of wine produced. An exceptionally dry summer with cool nights eventually, thanks to mid September rain, resulted in small, thick-skinned, ripe grapes, and the wines are marked by high tannin and acidity, with superb aromatic fragrance." - Jancis Robinson

"2017 was complicated, but there are some excellent wines. Expect plenty of freshness and drinkability from wines that will offer excellent value, and others that will rival 2016 in terms of ripeness and ageability. But they are likely to be the exception not the rule, making careful selection key." - Jane Anson

"In the past, a vintage such as 2022 may have been overripe, raisined and low in acidity but 2022 had a sneaky little reservoir in its back pocket - a near perfect marriage of cool/cold/rain the previous winter and the previous vintage that literally soaked the soils (a key to why 2022 is not 2003...or 1893)." - Jon Rimmerman
