| Community Tasting Notes (average 88.2 pts. and median of 89 pts. in 322 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by BuckeyeBenS on 4/6/2024: Sadly this was totally undrinkable. Spoiled and thus poured down the drain. (57 views) | | Tasted by MNHawkeye on 12/31/2022 & rated 75 points: Very dry, ariated (733 views) | | Tasted by BuckeyeBenS on 1/9/2021 & rated 89 points: Very easy to drink, though a little past its prime. Opened one about 2 years ago and it was a little better. Classic California cab. Great fruit, softer tannins (due to age) and pretty good out of the bottle, though a little air helped it along. Cork was a little brittle and took some careful work. Time to enjoy them if you have them. They won't get any better. (2179 views) | | Tasted by BarryJT on 4/9/2020: X (2094 views) | | Tasted by brigcampbell on 10/13/2019: This is not improving with age. The jammy Raspberry and cassis flavor is showing some prune notes with time. It was just okay. (2551 views) | | Tasted by SoCal GMan on 12/31/2018 & rated 92 points: It was tough to measure this cab subsequent to enjoying our 2010 Isosceles with dinner, but this Cab proved to be an excellent choice for our post-dinner festivities and desserts. Decanting was slightly longer than normal, at @ 45-mnutes, so that may explain the surprisingly smooth, yet rich cab taste. The tasting notes referred to more of a bold spice than we experienced. This is likely one of the better cabs we have enjoyed from Justin. (2738 views) | | Tasted by SpoochMan on 7/18/2018: Donated to CSHL course. Tasted briefly and it was drinking well. (2789 views) | | Tasted by DnA2011 on 3/31/2018 & rated 85 points: Medium bodied with fruity notes (2330 views) | | Tasted by jmahoney13 on 6/18/2017 & rated 89 points: What you would expect. Drink now (3485 views) | | Tasted by jmahoney13 on 6/18/2017 & rated 89 points: Is what you would expect. Drink now (3096 views) | | Tasted by jrhaynie on 3/4/2017 & rated 90 points: Well, my previous review it seemed the wine was past its prime but this bottle made up for the previous one, drank very well, nice vanilla, light cherry and spice on the nose. Good finish, the previous bottle was not near this one, perhaps a bit corked. So one more left, still advise drinking now as it will not get any better. (3370 views) | | Tasted by jrhaynie on 2/17/2017 & rated 88 points: Average cab, typical notes of cherry, vanilla on the nose. Medium body, fruit forward and short finish. I think as noted with others this is on the decline so will drink up my other 2 bottles now and hope they are better than this one. (2897 views) | | Tasted by familydoc on 2/12/2017 & rated 88 points: Nose: cranberry, vanilla, cherry
Taste: nice fruit, good finish, medium bodied for a cab (2551 views) | | Tasted by Kahnru12 on 2/3/2017 & rated 89 points: Soft entry, strong mid, fades on finish. Good with beef or by itself. Still tasting well at the end of its drinking window. (1627 views) | | Tasted by Basicallyjones on 12/17/2016 & rated 90 points: Super smooth. If you have any of the 2010, drink it up now. 6 bottle years sees this peaked, if not slightly on the decline. Big, but balanced plum/stewed fruit, slight green in the backbone, little oak. All in all, a balanced effort that paired perfectly with a flat iron with a demiglaze. (1810 views) | | Tasted by ramclain on 7/31/2016 & rated 90 points: Aged wonderfully currently. Intense aroma yet with a very smooth velvety feel in the mouth. Paired perfectly with a finely grilled steak. (2178 views) | | Tasted by kcwmd1 on 12/26/2015 & rated 89 points: Christmas night (3308 views) | | Tasted by Kdurkee133 on 11/24/2015 & rated 90 points: Very nice Cabernet, big yet smooth and seems almost blended with plum notes (3290 views) | | Tasted by gew71walsh on 9/23/2015 & rated 90 points: Improved since last bottle a year ago. Tannins had smoothed. Currants and spiciness on palate, with a nice finish. (3703 views) | | Tasted by redz on 3/22/2015 & rated 90 points: solid cab, should improve (4722 views) | | Tasted by Griffeyfan04 on 3/15/2015 & rated 87 points: Pop and pour and drank over an hour. Could have used a 1 hour decant as it got better as we drank it. Nothing fancy about this but decent enough (4229 views) | | Tasted by Martin Redmond on 3/8/2015 & rated 88 points: Wines At Our Table; Week of March 8, 2015; 3/2/2015-3/9/2015: Opaque very dark ruby color, and medium-bodied this wine offers baked black and red fruit, dark chocolate, spice and subtle cedar wood aromas. On the palate it shows a supple texture with chalky well integrated tannins and blackberry, black cherry, vanilla, dark chocolate and a kiss of cassis flavors. 13.9% alcohol. Spends 18 months in 225-liter American oak barrels. (3463 views) | | Tasted by SpoochMan on 12/12/2014 & rated 89 points: Holiday party. Very solid (3991 views) | | Tasted by Bottledrainer on 11/14/2014: A really good Cabernet for the money. Nice color. Fruit on the nose. Medium tannins. Good finish. Hard to beat for $21.00. (3671 views) | | Tasted by Fire Bill on 10/27/2014 & rated 89 points: Decanted for an hour prior to drinking. This wine is drinking well right now, but can probably go another 5 years or so. | Justin Vineyards & Winery Producer websiteCabernet SauvignonCabernet Sauvignon is probably the most famous red wine grape variety on Earth. It is rivaled in this regard only by its Bordeaux stablemate Merlot, and its opposite number in Burgundy, Pinot Noir. From its origins in Bordeaux, Cabernet has successfully spread to almost every winegrowing country in the world. It is now the key grape variety in many first-rate New World wine regions, most notably Napa Valley, Coonawarra and Maipo Valley. Wherever they come from, Cabernet Sauvignon wines always seem to demonstrate a handful of common character traits: deep color, good tannin structure, moderate acidity and aromas of blackcurrant, tomato leaf, dark spices and cedarwood.
Used as frequently in blends as in varietal wines, Cabernet Sauvignon has a large number of common blending partners. Apart from the obvious Merlot and Cabernet Franc, the most prevalent of these are Malbec, Petit Verdot and Carmenere (the ingredients of a classic Bordeaux Blend), Shiraz (in Australia's favorite blend) and in Spain and South America, a Cabernet – Tempranillo blend is now commonplace. Even the bold Tannat-based wines of Madiran are now generally softened with Cabernet SauvignonUSAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
