The nose brings ripe bing cherries, green herbs, and smoked meat. The palate is medium with a very juicy acidic frame, bringing blackberries, some blueberries, raspberries, musty old leather boots, hints of tobacco, charcoal, Manhattan cherries, and some lingering garlic and basil notes into the finish, which lingers for 30+ seconds with nicely refined tannins. Almost effervescent like a young Burgundy while supple and quenching, this is definitely ready to drink now with food - we paired with seared fillet and roasted potatoes off the grill. -high acidity up front sets an intensely sour almost citrusy tone, yet the weight is med+ almost chunky, generous if fairly simple mid-palate combines with big chalky tannins to give an expansive mouthfeel
-first time with this wine, not sure if the acidity is a marker of the vintage, typical for this cuvee, or afflicted with some VA. (1528 views) |
