Community Tasting Notes (average 90.4 pts. and median of 91 pts. in 78 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by VAGenius on 8/27/2021 & rated 93 points: Slightly sour/green/unripe blueberry with table grapes and clove. Dusty blackberry palate with black fruits, schist/minerals, black licorice, and red cherries. Smooth, polished finish with round stones, herbs, plum, pomegranate, and cinnamon. Wild combination with a lot of freshness and fruit for its age. (884 views)
Tasted by 41hijinx on 10/20/2020 & rated 90 points: Deep garnet color in glass with some browning. Soft promising bouquet. Nice bright ripe fruit on palate. Not too complex and perhaps a little one dimensional but very well made. Low acidity and soft tannins. Drink up! (1110 views)
Tasted by glou.sf on 8/24/2020 & rated 90 points: Tasted blind. Plums, dark berries, and some smoky notes on the nose. Good balance with medium acidity and quite structured, medium tannins with more red fruit flavors on the palate. Good finish. (1217 views)
Tasted by casjf on 10/14/2019 & rated 89 points: Jammy strawberry flavors predominated upon opening. Past its prime: flavors quickly dissipated. Served with BBQ skirt steak. (1431 views)
Tasted by IAmVintage on 7/17/2018 & rated 92 points: Home Ranch was a home run tonight! Perfectly cellared, which perhaps was the difference if bottle variance isn't the disconnect vs what some other less complimentary notes are saying here. A red fruit party with some softened structure of forest floor, light but definitely there tannins and balanced acidity Perfect with veal scallopini. Loved it. (1873 views)
Tasted by Burrloin on 7/4/2018 & rated 86 points: Let me say that I am a huge Ridge fan. This wine however was a disappointment. Perhaps I got a bad bottle (maybe cooked?). I shared it with a group of fellow Ridge fans. At first I detected a whiff of VA. Others said it had a pruney nose. Once you got past the nose it tasted pretty good. After a few hours the nose got worse. I don't think the wine was over the hill but I wouldn't wait much longer. (1440 views)
Tasted by Brian Love on 2/4/2018: Possibly over the hill. Lacking depth but still good. (1479 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 7/21/2017: Rich, full bodied with some dark fruit, leather. No need to hold any longer. Drink up. (1635 views)
Tasted by EricDilda on 1/12/2017 & rated 88 points: Solid sin blend- decent acid, red fruit, soft finish (1736 views)
Tasted by moxielady on 6/13/2016 & rated 91 points: Dark cherry and berry. Ready to drink (1969 views)
Tasted by sfgiants55 on 8/1/2015 & rated 90 points: Solid bottle after 60 mins. A bit of heat but rocks with BBq.

You've got no more than 5 years or so. (2472 views)
Tasted by Dr. Galazkiewicz on 11/22/2014: Boring. (3133 views)
Tasted by Cadby on 10/25/2014 & rated 90 points: 2009 Ridge Mazzoni Home Ranch +++ $30

Madbum cutter nose, changeup elegance, heater alcohol. Victory!

Tasted by bjschmitt on 9/27/2014 & rated 91 points: Drank prior to the meal. Did not take notes.
Nose, the eye, and the palate were nice, drinking very well. (2441 views)
Tasted by kcp on 9/1/2014: Bottle variation? Seemed heavy, alcohol hot, overly-extracted. Not what I expected. (2156 views)
Tasted by PNIELSEN on 8/18/2014 & rated 91 points: This wine is in a really sweet spot right now. Fascinating, exotic nose of ripe plums, rhubarb and smoky zin fruit. Smooth but vibrant on the palate with a fairly long finish. Mazzoni has become one of my favorite ATP wines on account of its somewhat Old World personality, and this vintage is particularly strong. I'll probably consume my last bottle over the next 12 months, but I could see this aging for another 3-4 years. (1805 views)
Tasted by rougeamore on 6/5/2014 & rated 91 points: - Ruby color with medium forming legs. It's balanced with a medium/full body. Round texture with a medium finish - Really like this wine. A lot more oak than I usually like but it just works with a very good balance of fruit and some sweet price complemented by fleshy tannins and a a fairly high acid level. Cherry, vanilla, and clove on the nose. Bought six bottles and wish I'd bought more. Only two left, sadly. (1655 views)
Tasted by Firefly78 on 4/21/2014 & rated 92 points: Pop and pour - smoky and earthy with intense berry nose and palate. Medium acidity, tamed sweet tannins and medium+ finish. In a good spot now. Perfect with BBQ ribs. (1773 views)
Tasted by MRichman on 2/12/2014: Softer, sweeter, more fruit forward and with less structure than most Ridge Zinfandel based wines. Pretty, perfumed with flowers and dark fruit. Some smoky tannins and a hint of black bitterness on the finish. A little too much high toned sweetness and just a little flabby, but this is a nice wine, friendly and easy to drink. I don't believe this will develop much, but it's not falling off a cliff either. I'd probably drink my bottles of this over the next 3-5 years.

Tasted by rougeamore on 1/26/2014 & rated 91 points: Lighter style of Zin with more red fruit and earth notes. Nice complexity with a medium finish (1651 views)
Tasted by Whtgldwngrdr on 1/4/2014 & rated 91 points: Smooth blend that went perfectly with the prime rib and garlic mash potatoes. Will be getting a couple more bottles. (1677 views)
Tasted by Mrp2008 on 12/15/2013 & rated 90 points: Consistent with previous note, a bit more noticeable alcohol (1614 views)
Tasted by Mauest on 12/14/2013 & rated 91 points: Drank at winery (1476 views)
Tasted by rougeamore on 12/12/2013 & rated 90 points: Medium bodied wine. Zin blend so not as jammy as traditional Zin but nice to drink. Dark berry notes with acidity and medium finish (1473 views)
Tasted by wabi47 on 11/16/2013 & rated 85 points: medium body; black raspberry; some interesting foxy mid palate flavors that i cant put down in words, too much heat on the finish (1472 views)

Ridge

Producer website | Wikipedia

Ridge Vineyards is a California winery specializing in premium Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, and Chardonnay wines. Ridge produces wine at two winery locations in northern California. The original winery facilities are located at an elevation of 2,300 feet (700 m) on Monte Bello Ridge in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA near Cupertino, California. The other Ridge winery facilities are at Lytton Springs in the Dry Creek Valley AVA of Sonoma County.

USA

American wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.
