| Community Tasting Notes (average 92.6 pts. and median of 93 pts. in 82 notes) - hiding notes with no text | | Tasted by rogerr on 2/18/2023 & rated 95 points: Popped and poured. Showing well and typical for Cote-a-Cote. Maybe a little disappointed on the first night - I'd score it 93. Left 1/4 of the bottle in the fridge and then enjoyed 2 days later. Wine blossomed into a seamless delicious whole. I'd rate it 96 on day 2. Unfortunately I have no more bottles otherwise I'd hold it or give it a 24 hour decant. Very good wine. (530 views) | | Tasted by barrytaylor on 12/19/2022 & rated 93 points: deep color, mild tannins, smooth, did well against Saxum James Berry 11 & Bone rock 10 (506 views) | | Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 11/26/2022 & rated 91 points: Brambly blue and black fruit, currant and vanilla on the nose; same flavors along with red fruit and oak spice on the well-integrated palate. Tannins faded, but the wine still has grip through the palate. Finish is long and smooth. A bit one dimensional, but a crowd pleaser even still. (525 views) | | Tasted by VlgJeff on 10/14/2022 & rated 93 points: Decanted for 45 minutes with some sediment. Notes of blue and some black fruits on the nose. The medium bodied palate showed lots of blueberry, blackberry, currant, spice and earth, along with some pepper, herb and minerality. The acidity was juicy but balancing and any tannins were integrated. More advanced, and more enjoyable than our previous bottle about a year ago. Don't expect any further development but the wine could probably hold for another couple of years. (562 views) | | Tasted by Glencoewine on 9/23/2022 & rated 90 points: Seemed past its prime. Nothing wrong with it, but not memorable. Drink up. (643 views) | | Tasted by brianm67 on 5/30/2022 & rated 90 points: Smoke, cherry, leather, pepper, green bell pepper. Tannin on the finish. (489 views) | | Tasted by VlgJeff on 9/25/2021 & rated 92 points: Slo-oxed for 30 minutes, with a small amount of sediment. A deep dark ruby in the glass. An initial bit of funk on the nose which blows off revealing lots of dark red fruit and some smoke. The medium plus bodied palate mirrored the nose in showing lots of dark red fruits and a bit of smoke, plus a good bit of earth, some pepper, some spice, and a touch of tannins on the finish. All of this was wrapped in vibrant, but balancing, acidity. Should hold another several years. (840 views) | | Tasted by BrianB32814 on 8/29/2021 & rated 92 points: Full bodied but not overwrought. Syrah, Mourvèdre and Grenache blend from Paso. Dark fruit and pepper notes up front, gaining velvet and black licorice notes on the midpalate. I’d like a little more focus on the finish, but otherwise it’s drinking well at 10z. Drink before 2024. (873 views) | | Tasted by TGOT on 5/2/2021 & rated 89 points: Overly tart. (1100 views) | | Tasted by barrytaylor on 4/2/2021 & rated 94 points: very nice, deep color, soft tanins, ready (1097 views) | | Tasted by mac-eye on 10/26/2020 & rated 94 points: Very nice indeed. In a great spot now. (1226 views) | | Tasted by Grinner on 12/21/2019 & rated 94 points: WAG Holiday Hedonism Tasting: SMG in make up, this was the second of two bottles finished that night. The velvety texture stands out immediately, then the depth of fruit and savory notes. Complex and long, tannins are integrated. On plateau, now-2023. (1588 views) | | Tasted by vino_per_tutti on 6/23/2019 & rated 89 points: Blood red in color. Syrah dominate through out; mourvèdre for structure, grenache some of the sweeter notes. Round and flavorful on the palate. Finish medium and a bit tart. This was good, not great. Perhaps past the drinking window. Also, not nearly as good on Day 2. (1455 views) | | Tasted by joshabramson on 5/13/2019 & rated 93 points: Delicious as always. (1409 views) | | Tasted by Fergman on 2/17/2019: Very good nose with a round finish. Not to strong on nether palet (1304 views) | | Tasted by whitmanlholt on 11/25/2018 & rated 91 points: Popped and poured. This is a vibrant red wine. On the nose, I get cherry, smoked meats, and cold steel — the nose is a bit closed today. In the mouth, this is rich and slightly sweet, with a finish of juicy red fruit. Overall, I like this wine but feel like it is still closed — there is a champion in waiting. 91 points. (1451 views) | | Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 3/30/2018 & rated 94 points: Consistent notes. Bright fruit. Less meaty and funky on day two with some air only under vaccuvin. (1576 views) | | Tasted by andrewdodd86 on 3/29/2018 & rated 95 points: Funk tastic. Dead ringer for Cayuse/No Girls. Olive. Meaty. Bacon fat. Dried green herbs. So savory. Raspberry & Blackberry. Some tannin. Younger end of drinking window. 2020-2030 (1356 views) | | Tasted by rustyRudy on 3/29/2018 & rated 94 points: Nose jumps out of the glass. Lots of bacon, grilled meat, menthol, red and dark fruit, and is similar to Cayuse but slightly less funk. Youthful. Will keep my other bottle for years. (1662 views) | | Tasted by brianofthevine on 7/21/2017 & rated 92 points: Very nice. Red/black cherry fruit, nice creamy texture to it. Black licorice, tar, earth, and dare I say bacon fat? Nice long finish. (2057 views) | | Tasted by Schiffy on 6/12/2017 & rated 94 points: This is a terrific blend that has a rich, almost sweet, blackberry fruit, cassis and lavender. Hints of sweet cherry and strawberry on the finish along with an intense dark berry nose. Great complexity and amazing wine considering the vintage. (1950 views) | | Tasted by jkvedar on 3/30/2017 & rated 92 points: Dark and brooding. Dark fruits and graphite on the nose. A bit of crushed flower petals. Full-bodied with lots of dark fruit on the palate well-balanced despite 15.8% ABV. mouth-watering finish. (1718 views) | | Tasted by VAD on 3/4/2017 & rated 94 points: Just delicious! Need to buy more! (1793 views) | | Tasted by pocchia on 1/28/2017 & rated 92 points: PnP. Opaque in the glass and the scent of just-crushed dense dark berries on the nose. Bright & fresh on the front of the palate, fruit forward that quickly expands as it moves to mid-palate, where it becomes a bit heavier & denser. Really lovely! Stems up! (2077 views) | | Tasted by VAD on 9/16/2016 & rated 94 points: Velvety and so smooth.pop and pour and was delicious. Nice dark fruit, great balance and finish. A 'food' wine. Lacking pretension and intended for local consumption with local cuisine. Lacks the 'high' notes on a Bordeaux, more earthy and sharper so often a better partner to meat dishes with a sauce. USAAmerican wine has been produced since the 1500s, with the first widespread production beginning in New Mexico in 1628. Today, wine production is undertaken in all fifty states, with California producing 84% of all U.S. wine. The continent of North America is home to several native species of grape, including Vitis labrusca, Vitis riparia, Vitis rotundifolia, and Vitis vulpina, but the wine-making industry is based almost entirely on the cultivation of the European Vitis vinifera, which was introduced by European settlers. With more than 1,100,000 acres (4,500 km2) under vine, the United States is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world, after Italy, Spain, and France.California2021 vintage: "Unlike almost all other areas of the state, the Russian River Valley had higher than normal crops in 2021, which has made for a wine of greater generosity and fruit forwardness than some of its stablemates." - Morgan Twain-Peterson Central Coasthttp://www.ccwinegrowers.org/links.html
