Community Tasting Notes (average 92.7 pts. and median of 92 pts. in 49 notes) - hiding notes with no text

Tasted by Palisades57 on 3/13/2024 & rated 94 points: Stunning wine. Very fresh nose with oystershell and yellow orchard fruit. Palate shows intense minerality and length. Overall terrific. More complete and better than many “grands cru”.

This was served with a braised chicken dish with a lemon-walnut-parsley pesto, which really brought out the best aspects of the wine. A good pairing, resulting in one of those elusive Burgundy experiences that knocks it out of the park. (391 views)
Tasted by PC73 on 8/27/2023 & rated 93 points: Don’t get to drink much Raveneau, so excited to open this. Certainly didn’t disappoint.
Salty and oyster shell on the palate. Also orchard fruits.
I didn’t pick up the richness and texture I usually associate with Raveneau but that doesn’t take away from the enjoyment. Very refined and elegant. Delicious. (837 views)
Tasted by peternelson on 8/14/2023 & rated 91 points: Bruised apple, slight bitter tropical fruit, hint of baking spice, darker than the first 2. This didn't live up to the name and was lackluster. Bottle variation? Tied for #6/13 with the Billaud Clos. DD, Capital Seafood BH (967 views)
Tasted by rlove on 7/27/2023 & rated 92 points: Starts out a bit austere and phenolic but with air finds brightness and a pretty orchard fruit profile. More classic Chablis than classic Raveneau but fine enough. (988 views)
Tasted by marshalc on 4/23/2022 & rated 93 points: Nice but I’ll hold the last for another 3-5 years (2367 views)
Tasted by llink on 3/18/2022 & rated 92 points: PNP. Beautiful aromas of tide pool, lemon and honey. The palate is crisp and linear with a medium weight stony texture and a chalky, lemon-infused finish. (2106 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 12/7/2021 & rated 92 points: Popped-and-poured. Wonderfully bright with both ripe and tart apple start-to-finish. Truly enjoyable right out of the gate, which is frankly rare for Raveneau. More air/ time brought out even more depth and nuance. So classically Chablis, which is particularly impressive in 2012. (3128 views)
Tasted by danstrings on 11/28/2021 & rated 92 points: Super light gold color, incredibly youthful nose with zero signs of aging at all at 9 years old. Ethereally light on its feet - slate / mineral notes with just a hint of fresh sliced pear and sea foam. Nice. (2404 views)
Tasted by joshabramson on 11/11/2021 & rated 95 points: Super fresh! Lean and crisp with nice acidity. As always, Ravenueau delivers. (2570 views)
Tasted by llink on 10/23/2021: Popped and poured. Beautiful nose of lemon, sea brine and an anise spice element. Medium weight palate, deep and lemon infused with a mineral laced texture, some bitter lemon rind and a chalky finish. The 12s from Raveneau balance the warmth of the vintage with Chablis character and some of the waxiness that this house infuses into their Chablis, delivering a wonderful experience that should age much longer. (1606 views)
Tasted by zigzag on 10/12/2021: Lemon (1708 views)
Tasted by Palisades57 on 8/27/2021 & rated 93 points: Incredibly intense. Tight and very sharp on PNP. Slow ox for an hour then decanted. Over the course of the next 2-3 hours really opened up. Long, balanced oystershell minerality. Just terrific. (1505 views)
Tasted by Esteban on 12/19/2020 & rated 92 points: Très minéral. Légère oxydation. Tout es tres bien balancé mais est-ce que ça vait le hype et le prix. (2026 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 12/1/2020 & rated 92 points: Lost some energy after an initially smooth and limestone laden palate experience. 92-93 (2133 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/28/2020: Decanted 2 hours before serving. Medium yellow. All tide pool and seashore on the nose-much more in the way of iodine and salt than fruit. Medium weight but terrific rich, waxy Raveneau feel with a kiss of wood. Hazelnut, lemon, and stone plus excellent but by no means enamel-stripping acidity yield front end roundness and a sleek, long finish. Fantastic Premier Cru that I'd say perfectly meshes this producer's style with the classic aromas and flavors of the appellation. Many of the better 2012 Chablis seem to have more underlying structure than they displayed early on. Nowhere near full maturity at this point. (2420 views)
Tasted by rlove on 11/24/2020 & rated 92 points: Raveneau's 2012 Butteaux took some time to open up, initially showing a hard phenolic austerity, revealing with air a nose of orchard fruit, smoke, and oyster shell. Crisp with a stoney minerality and bright finish. (2013 views)
Tasted by rlove on 3/15/2020 & rated 92 points: Dense and linear, with precise citrus and stone aromas preluding a palate of uniform acidity and stoney minerality. Bright with significant dry extract. (2603 views)
Tasted by Burgundy Al on 3/5/2020 & rated 92 points: Zachys La Paulée "Warm-up" Dinner (Lafayette - New York NY): Late night small pour. Ripe and dense, this seems to start out fleshy and non-classic, but gets very bright on long finish. Will reward further cellaring. (2795 views)
Tasted by hprphf on 2/27/2020 & rated 92 points: Nice weight, signature linear clarity, some pronounced acid here. 91-92 (1809 views)
Tasted by Peter Z. on 10/11/2019 & rated 96 points: The long aftertaste is magical (2200 views)
Tasted by "Rhône Rider" on 9/16/2019 & rated 94 points: Rik oplulent nese med smør, voks, sjø, nøtter og pærer. I munnen er den alt annet enn opulent; laserskarp i munn med grønne epler, nøtter , sjø, sjø, sjø, sjø, mineraler og hvite blomster. Lang, frisk, presis og bestemt. En fantastisk Chablis. 94 (2093 views)
Tasted by Andre Brattland on 7/7/2019 & rated 92 points: Rich and intense aromas with pretty sweet nectar and pretty sea minerality. Medium-bodied and rich wine that truly seduces. Lovely yellow generic fruit, dry citrus peel, nut and light wood. Need some time, but this was great! 92 points. For now. (92-94p) (2378 views)
Tasted by llink on 4/30/2019 & rated 92 points: Popped and poured, consumed over 3 hours. The nose just soars out of the glass, very complex and deep. Lemon blossoms, sea foam, brine and honey. The palate is crisp and lean for a 12, not heavy or sweet, in fact a little dilute until you get to the finish and then it delivers a bitter lemon zest zing. (2166 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 4/18/2019 & rated 93 points: Good energy, particularly on the focused finish. (1483 views)
Tasted by -E- on 4/12/2019 & rated 93 points: Klar, strågul. Mild på nese med innslag av kalk, voks og toner av litchi og moden sitrus. Solid, fast og fokusert frukt med et utpreget mineralsk driv. Pen fruktmodning. God konsentrasjon og fylde. Intens. Frisk, spisset syre. Tørr utgang preget av saltaktig mineralitet. Flott lengde. (2189 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
