Tasted by jamesabdavis on 2/23/2024: Waxy floral honeysuckle lime - key lime pie!
Rich textured, oyster shell lime-infused acidity
Mid-weight
Absolutely gorgeous (397 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 11/8/2023: Light yellow with remaining green tinge. Enticing white flowers and citrus aromas. Medium weight with a little glycerine. Excellent breadth of flavors including lemon confit, iodine, and soil. This is old enough to have shed the signature Raveneau hazelnut and beeswax to reveal more of its Chablis core. Surprisingly though, the acidity fell a bit short, depriving it of some intensity and tension. Excellent wine nonetheless and very fresh, just not worth its current resale price.

More vanillin and astringency the second night. Definitely not better. (1037 views)
Tasted by finediningnyc on 7/27/2023 & rated 96 points: Opened at 4pm and drunk at 9pm. Along with 02, 04 and the majestic 2010, 08 is one of my absolute favorite vintages from Raveneau and it’s absolutely rocking tonight showing superb weight, density and waxy yellow fruit that’s layered with stony minerality and piercing lemony acids. 08 Raveneau is all about that Chablisian balance: proper levels of richness and acid, ripeness and minerality. Code yellow ftw 🙌🏻 (922 views)
Tasted by LW31 on 6/17/2023: Good showing. Open a few hrs before we drank and with that amount of air feels fully resolved and ready. Touch of exotic on the nose I haven’t gotten before (896 views)
Tasted by Leosomm46 on 5/19/2023 & rated 81 points: Tired, not very good acidity, wrongly stored? (932 views)
Tasted by Jeremy Holmes on 4/2/2023: Another incredibly youthful '08 from Raveneau. A fresh nose of mint, oyster shell, preserved lemon and white peach. Great volume and fruit intensity in the mouth. Unctuous and full, layered and long. The finish crackles with electricity. (1211 views)
Tasted by aquacongas on 1/22/2023 & rated 95 points: blind
Very convincing, well integrated oak, still refreshing acidity, close to his peak. yuzu, almonds, balanced. 95 (1441 views)
Tasted by S1 on 11/3/2022: Charleston Offlineorama VII; 11/2/2022-11/6/2022 (Various locations): A little reduction, and then wave after wave of classic Chablis minerality with Raveneau richness and slight oak. I can’t imagine this getting much better. (1167 views)
Tasted by Papies on 9/22/2022 & rated 95 points: The Return to the Ledbury (The Ledbury, London): A magnificent wine and once again much like the premier crus from 2011s of Raveneau ( Papies 94-96) its such a joy a comes back to asking why we bother taking the premox risk of 10yr+ white burgs when these are so superb. An even worse question is why did we sell our bottles back in 2016..
Bright and albeit evolved still very much a wine full of energy, soft saline feel, fattier in a way for a Chablis but in now way rich. Mineral, less of the flinty edge, limes and in a way savory. Easy 95 and what a beauty. (1204 views)
Tasted by finediningnyc on 8/26/2022 & rated 95 points: Along with 02, 04 and 10, 08 is one of my absolute favorite vintages from Raveneau. Tonight it is excellent and still markedly youthful. A multi hour decant brings out its superb weight, density, waxy yellow fruit and stony minerality with piercing lemony acids and saline driven finish. 2008 for me, is all about that Chablisian balance: proper levels of richness and acid, ripeness and minerality. Code yellow 🥳 (1009 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 4/16/2022 & rated 91 points: In line with a glass a couple of weeks’ ago. Mellow and smooth, white burgundy rather than Chablis per se. Harmonious and very smooth, just lacks cut and length. Bare **** (1419 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 4/1/2022 & rated 94 points: I have long loved this vintage and wine from Raveneau and it appears it's almost stood still in its evolution. Terrific minerlity, classic oystershells, with great fruit intensity - a decant and a Zalto Burgundy glass couldn't make this budge. It should be a 40 year wine easily. Very very good! (1369 views)
Tasted by SimonG on 3/20/2022 & rated 91 points: Pale to mid straw. Relatively gentle and harmonious, some mineral, but as I often find with Raveneau, more a serious dry wine than obviously Chablis. **** (1243 views)
Tasted by drwine2001 on 2/15/2022: Still remarkably light greenish yellow. Can you say chlorophyll? All oyster shell, iodine, green herbs, and sulfur. This smells and tastes like something that came from the primordial broth rather than a product that started as grapes. The lemony fruit is almost an afterthought that is thrown in to provide some flesh and balance. Long, saline, crisp, textured, and unexpectedly powerful, it just sneaks up and attacks every crevice of your mouth. Phenomenally youthful and exciting. A wine like this could only originate in Chablis. (1618 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 11/30/2020: Rather flat. (1922 views)
Tasted by finediningnyc on 10/6/2020 & rated 95 points: So good. Just kept building with incredible weight and intensity. 4 hour decant is the key. Enjoyed along side MDT 2004 and 2008 and Dauvissat Clos 2004. (1853 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 9/23/2020 & rated 93 points: A tiny bit more advanced than the last. Still lovely showing yet again. Great mouthfeel immediatly, grippy, chalky but than also slightly fat red apples. Poised and elegant, a peacock tail of white pear and apricot on the palate. I really like this wine and feel it is in a beautiful spot. (2047 views)
Tasted by tinybubbles on 9/17/2020 & rated 93 points: Crisp bottle, with fresh fruit, good definition, and appealing saline notes. (1827 views)
Tasted by manonthemoon on 6/20/2020 & rated 94 points: Had with Sushi.
N lemon zest, sea water, seaweed
P saltwater, little honey, lemon peel, lots of minerals and a hint of cream
F long in length and mouthfeel and acidity was still going on even with age.
Overall a fantastic bottle of vino. (1807 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 6/13/2020 & rated 91 points: Consistent with previous note. Needs time. (1481 views)
Tasted by Pottsy on 6/5/2020 & rated 95 points: Woodland honey, great acid, damp cellar.

First Raveneau ever and I understand the hype. This bottle was amazing. Glad I shared it with someone I love. (1134 views)
Tasted by seagullwine on 6/5/2020 & rated 96 points: Mead, wet cobblestones, lemon curd, white pressed flowers, brown butter, mustard seed. Loooooong. Beautifully integrated acidity. Don't get to drink these every day. (1081 views)
Tasted by Burgnick on 5/25/2020 & rated 91 points: Entering its early drinking window. Citrus, yellow fruit and stine fruit. The chablis minerality has toned down which makes it very Meursault like. For a Raveneau, I thought it is a 09. (1602 views)
Tasted by Astrophel on 3/8/2020: This began with lots of subtlety and was balanced and delicious from the get go. With time, the salinity on the finish increased and the style of Raveneau's Butteaux was on full display with just a hint of fennel and some waxiness true to form. No aspect of this wine was particularly poignant; instead, this was just a really well-rounded and tasty bottle. Drinking super well right now. XXX+ (1352 views)
Tasted by BenBlu on 2/18/2020 & rated 94 points: Came out late at night but showed its remarkable qualities when served at ~12 degrees immediately. In a lovely twilight of being fresh and young and showing some bottle age. Second time with this wine and consistent showing. A superb Chablis 1er Cru and Raveneau just does the trick all the time, simple as that. (1535 views)

Burgundy

Les vins de Bourgogne (Bureau interprofessionnel des vins de Bourgogne) (and in English)

Burgundy - The province of eastern France, famous for its red wines produced from Pinot Noir and its whites produced from Chardonnay. (Small of amounts of Gamay and Aligoté are still grown, although these have to be labeled differently.) The most famous part of the region is known as the Cote d'Or (the Golden Slope). It is divided into the Cote de Beaune, south of the town of Beaune (famous principally for its whites), and the Cote de Nuits, North of Beaune (home of the most famous reds). In addition, the Cote Chalonnaise and the Maconnais are important wine growing regions, although historically a clear level (or more) below the Cote d'Or. Also included by some are the regions of Chablis and Auxerrois, farther north.

# 2013 Vintage Notes:
* "2013 is a vintage that 20 years ago would have been a disaster." - Will Lyons
* "low yields and highly variable reds, much better whites." - Bill Nanson
* "Virtually all wines were chaptalised, with a bit of sugar added before fermentation to increase the final alcohol level." - Jancis Robinson

# 2014 Vintage Notes:
"We have not had such splendid harvest weather for many years. This will ensure high quality (fragrant, classy and succulent are words already being used) across the board, up and down the hierarchy and well as consistently from south to north geographically apart from those vineyards ravaged by the hail at the end of June." - Clive Coates

# 2015 Vintage Notes:
"Low yields and warm weather allowed for ample ripeness, small berries and an early harvest. Quality is looking extremely fine, with some people whispering comparisons with the outstanding 2005 vintage. Acid levels in individual wines may be crucial." - Jancis Robinson

# 2017 Vintage Notes:
"Chablis suffered greatly from frost in 2017, resulting in very reduced volumes. As ever, the irony seems to be that what remains is very good quality, as it is in the Côte d’Or. Cooler nights across the region have resulted in higher-than-usual acidity, with good conditions throughout the harvest season allowing for ripe, healthy fruit." - Jancis Robinson

# 2018 Vintage Notes:
"The most successful region for red Burgundy in 2018 was the Côte de Beaune. The weather was ideal in this area, with just enough sunlight and rain to produce perfectly balanced wines naturally." - Vinfolio

Chablis

Chablis (Fédération de Défense de l'Appellation Chablis) | Chablis (Burgundy Wines)

2014 Vintage Notes:
"... a hybrid of 2004/2007 and 2010. The stone, citrus and limestone amalgam is exactly what we search for in Chablis as the style harkens to a day in the Cote de Beaune proper (1960's - 1980's) when wine was not meant to be consumed the week it was released, battonage was not used by all and new oak was rarely seen ... the texture is natural and 'of the vintage' not 'of the winemaker' .... Like Sancerre or the Loire in general, 2014 in Chablis is one of those rare years with extract and transparency. It appears to be a vintage for the "neoclassic" ages and those of us intent on cellaring the most terroir-driven (but still powerful) examples of vineyard, site-place and varietal will want to invest (heavily) in the magnetic and electric 2014's." - Jon Rimmerman

2018 Vintage Notes:
"There’s not that razor sharp Chablis acidity in 2018,” says Patrick Piuze. “But there is good definition of place. The dry conditions drove vines to drink deeper down in the soil profile."
